Question. Can a cookie in ASP be assigned a value from Access database by directly accessing the database?
The idea is this. I have a form that a user fills out. The form is submitted and entered into my Access database. What I want is for the form to be emailed automatically to the user who just completed the form. To get to the form the user must first login in and the login info is stored in another Access db. So I already have the email address for the user.
So the diea I had was to use cookies and already existing email address for the user in my Access db to email the forms.
Any body know of a resource that compares/benchmarks the expense (in terms of milli seconds, or server load) of using various programing options?
I know a lot of articles and forum posts reccomend best practices between functions and programming options, but I would be interested in some type of definitive benchmark to decide between various prgramming options, depending on the need.
For example, I can call a Recordset and quickly write it into an array, so that the connection can be closed even before I write the data to the HTML page. This would save conection time and server resources, but I'd like to be able to judge the worth when considering coding it.
Every time I do a Server.Transfer how expensive is it to the server? How much am I loading the server with Session varaibles? If I store some info in a cookie, but have to call it, how long will that take? Am I using up server resources by creating large arrays?
In my Session_OnStart in Global.asa, I am setting some cookies. One of them, I set as follows:
dim UserID UserID = Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER") Response.Cookies("User")("ID") = UCASE(UserID)
When I immediately log the cookie value retrieved from Request.Cookies("User")("ID") into the Windows Event Log, I get the correct value. However, when I try to retrieve the cookie on the home page of my application using the same code,
Request.Cookies("User")("ID"), it either cannot find the cookie or cannot read the value. I am retrieving the cookie before all HTML headers are written. It is my first statement on the page after Option Explicit. I have even compared the session IDs. The SessionID created in the Session_OnStart is the same value as the SessionID on the home page.
I have read that the Session_OnStart only has access to the Application, Session and Request objects. It does not explicitly say that it does not have access to the Response object. Also, I was even able to use Response.Write's in Global.asa to print out the values although it looked like it had also stopped the session after I did so. Cookies are definitely enabled on my machine. I have even tried setting the session cookie's expiration to be persistent for a few days to see if it was perhaps expiring before I was able to read it but this did not work either.
Is there something preventing cookies to be created in Global.asa in the Session_OnStart sub? Is the Response object not available??? Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem or solution.

I'm looking to make an online multiplayer game which will utilize Access Database... basically I require thousands of people writing and reading from the same database... I was wondering if this is possible for that... or is mdb file restricted to 1 person at a time...
If it is limited what would you suggest as the best way to control an interactive online environment? .txt files possibly?

I have four input variables from a form (first name, Last name, registration number and pin number). I want to check if this variables conform to the data I have in a database (mind you the Pin number is initially not related to the registration number, first name and last name and it is a list of numbers in a separate table in the database;I want to have the flexibility to supply any Pin number, tie this number to the registration number, first name and last name for the purpose of accessing other data in the database for a specified number of times) . how can I do this in an asp environment ?
I'm trying for the longest while to access a database and i keep saying error 3219 which states that the operation is not allowed in this context.

Hope that i could find my solution here.i'm working on an asp page and i need to display data from 2 different databases one is in sql server and the other is in access currently i have linked the sql tables into the access database but problems occur where i have to refresh the tables regulary so what i need is to be able to select from the sql and access seperatly in one select statment How could i create the connections for both of them to be able to do so?
What code do I use? Bear in mind that each ACCESS record has an Auto-ID, but since some records may have been deleted, the number of records in the database does not equal the maximum ID number.

I have a single table, with 8 fields. I want to allow users to filter their selections on 3 fields, specifically County, DistrictName, and Date. I would like users to be able to chose one a specific field from each of these 3 or default to all. Users will not be able to update the database, they will simply be returned data.
Add to this one of the fields is an amount field in which a user can see the sum of the data returned. In conjunction I will also need a flag for amounts which have not yet posted so that these do not report in the sum amount. I would be most grateful for any assistance or if i can be pointed to a product which will aid me in completing this task.

We are using ms access database for our development and we r facing a strange problem. We've to store date in dd/mm/yyyy format and display so to the user.Ifwe enter a date in the range 1-12 the date is getting stored in the format mm/dd/yyyy whereas dates above that get stored properly ie dd/mm/yyyy format.
Why is that. Is it a known issue ? How do we solve that ? Please advice. Is there any setting that we need to change or set some format in the access table ?

I have a current site that I'm working on that has multiple HTML forms that writes the information to an Access database using ASP. I've recieved input that Access can encounter data corruption when there are multiple reads and writes to the database tables. So, I was interested in getting any feedback on using multiple .mdb files with only one table in the database for the different HTML forms.
Would this be a better approach to prevent data corruption or would it make no difference?? The site is only a local business that wouldn't be getting high volume traffic and my thought was to seperate the forms to seperate .mdb files, if this would be beneficial?? I have been told to use a SQL server database, which I'm starting to get. Access is what I'm using and want to find the best method to prevent data corruption.
