I came across a problem when importing my data results into Excel. The whole table outputs perfectly but a particular field which is generally large (13 characters long) presents as some random integer which shouldn't be the case. I click on Tools -> Format Cells and change its value to number and to 0 decimal places and great it works.
Am I able to do this before I get into Excel? Or would this always have to be done by the user?
I have been toying with various resources I have found on here and the web - but would like to know specifically how to get the contents of an excel cell on a particular sheet using .asp?.
Is it possible to set a cell property in Excel from an ASP page. We have numerical data that is taken from a database and then displayed in Excel. I would like ideally all the data to be set at 2 decimal places, is there anyway of setting this from the ASP page?
Is anyone aware of a 255 character limit when reading data from a particular Excel cell? I'm experiencing when pulling straight text from an Excel spreadsheet, which otherwise works fine. Right at 255 characters, the data is truncated and I only see that bit of information.I've searched Google and came up with a few registry modifications, neither of which fixed the issue. Has anyone else ran into this?
What ASP code can I use, for an ASP-generated spreadsheet, to force a cell to wrap if the content is longer than the width I have specified for that cell?
I an using ASP to read a database table and generate an HTML table which is save via FSO with a file extension of .xls which opens up in MS-Excel. I am inserting several lines of text into a cell and would like to force a line break between them.
I recorded an MS-Excel macro so see how Alt-Enter was captured which turned out to be Chr(10) which is the same as vbLf (right?)
I tried inserting that in character in the text but it didn't show up as a line break in MS-Excel.
I had created a macro to read data from an excel sheet and write the values to a text file. I had used "ActiveSheet.Range("GB" & k).Value" command to read the values from the excel.some cells in the excel sheet is having two lines value and four lines data, the text file is generating that value in a single line. (Ex. the cell value in address column is in four lines and should display in four lines in the text file generated from the macro)
Can i do something in the excel sheet or in vb script to read the address value line by line and write line by line in text file?
I am using the response.ContentType = "application/vnd.ms-excel"----Works GREAT! I send all my SQL querie info from my asp page to an excel spreadsheet. Now what I need to know is there some fuctions I can use to set all the format parameters of the spreadsheet i.e. font style and size, columns to autofit!!
I am trying to save a number to excel using the correct number of digits. In asp I write a number out to HTML formated as "4.50". I now want run that page and save the results as an excel page.
I add Response.ContentType="application/x-msdownload"
and now the number displays as "4.5" in excel. I have tried to CStr(4.50) when going to excel but that doesn't help.
I have a report that generates XML from an ASP document from an MS SQL database.
I have the document outputting to Excel very nicely, and I've done my research and got the XML to format nicely, and I can even modify the page margins and center the document to the page.
My problem is whenever I go to generate the report with header data added in the XSL document, I get an error. Additionally, for some reason I can't get the page to show up in landscape. Here are the relevant code sections (all in XSL document): Code:
I'm using the Excel application object to create a spreadsheet from a recordset. Everything seems to work fine except any date fields are not displaying properly. For example 4/18/2004 is displaying as 38095 in the spreadsheet.
I loop through the recordset to display each row. The line that actually writes out the field is:
I have a webpage that is taking input from a form and using it as criteria to select data out of an sql database. The page displays an html table with the results. The user can then click a button "excel" to open or save the file as an excel document. This works, and everything in the excel document is formatted fine except for the first column which in this case is "Part Number". The problem is that this part number: 883100105100 is displayed like this: 8.831E+11 in excel.
I am not sure how to format the excel cells using the asp/html so that it doesn't try to throw everything into scientific notation. I have thought that maybe if I gave excel a string value instead of a number value then it would fix the problem but I am pretty new to asp and am not sure how to do this. Below is the block that throws everything into excel in the first place. Code:
I have to upload one excel file. In that excel file I need to check the availability of data in particular cells and also the worksheet name. If the data is not available at particular cell, say for eg: $F1, an error should be thrown to user saying that the data is manadatory. How to do that? How to read the particular cell in ASP? If anybody knows the code, please send the same.
I am displaying the table using ASPGRID.In Edit mode, the column2 displays an array of values. On selection of a value from Column2 the column3 value should be automatically populated based on the Column2 value.
The cell change event of column2 should be captured and display the column3 values based on the column2 value. Is there any way to track the cell change?
I am not sure if this is possible but is there a way to change the color of a datagrid cell when a condition is met? For example, let's say if percent_changed >10 then change cell color to orange if percent_changed >25 then change cell color to red.
I have a table with coloured cells. I want to print out the table via IE with the coloured cells. But the outcome of the table does not have the cells coloured.
Are there ways to force out the colouring of the cells in the print outs?Either via php/asp/css or any means.
My asp page pulls from the database into a table for example
Name ITEM1 ITEM2 ITEM3 AName AITEM ANOTHER SOMETHING
What i want to do is create a mouseover based on what that content is, rather like when you hold your mouse over a image and view what the alt tage says i want it to display a short description of what the item means: I.E
Name ITEM1 ITEM2 ITEM3 AName AITEM ANOTHER SOMETHING <---- users mouseover "Something = Something that has a description"
This has to be dynamic based on the value in the table cell
I have a basic page for which I have included some of the code for at the end of this message. It may not run correctly as I have cropped out a lot of code.
I am trying to handle the click event for a cell. From the code you should be able to see that I am handling the mouse over event and would like to link to another page via the cell click.
I addition, but not too important at the moment, I would like to pass a string or two across to the called page. For example link to the next page and within that page identify which cell was clicked and possible pass a string for the image used in the clicked cell. Code:
Im trying to read an Excel file using OLE DB. I have around 500 characters in one cell. But the program is reading only 255 characters. How do i make my program to read all characters?
I have an asp page where im creating dynamic rows on an onclick function and textboxes are created in the dynamic rows and when i submit the asp page it goes to another asp page, where i whant the values entered in the textboxes of dynamically created row of the previous asp page. Code:
I created a web page from Excel2000, using "Save as web page..."...Publish function. then, I moved htm file to my IIS web server. Then I added a form control, and submit button.
How can get the data on the excel file using ASP from server side? For example, the value of Cell(1,2), Cell(2,3)....
I’m having an issue saving/reading an xml file. The source of this file is a the parameter of an object. Through the UI the user can change the value (xml string) of this parameter.
The problem is that the parameter needs the xml with > , < , and " instead of the > , < , " chars. However when I save it, the xml dom and even the fso save it with the actual xml chars. Other than a literal search, is there an easy way to convert the file to have the special chars?
Im looking for an online site that I can format or tidy ASP pages. If any one also knows of a software application that can format asp /html pages id be greatfull of that link too.
I'm having users enter a message into a textarea, but I'm having problems with the formatting. How do I add " " characters where they have pressed enter?
This is being entered into a MySQL database, so I have already replaced the ' with '.
I am requesting a variable for the users' network username:
<%=Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER")%>
This returns the following:
NETWORKJ.Bloggs
Instead I would like it to return J.Bloggs on it's own with out the "NETWORK" bit so basically I am saying how do I cut out the first 8 characters of a variable.
I have users typing in information into a text box. Sometimes this information can be lengthy and contain simple formatting such as spacess between lines and line numbering. For example:
1. List item number one
2. List item number two
I then have a report page that prints out this information. Unfortunately, the line spacing doesn't show up in the report. It's just all jumbled together. I'm just using <%= Notes %> to show the db field. Is there a way that I can show the formatting that was originally entered or do I need to use some kind of word processor like I am using to type this post?
I would like to know how to format phone numbers and ssn numbers in textbox. That is when I enter the phone number, it is going to the database as 000,000,0000. I want to have it as either 0000000000 or 000-000-0000. Likewise, for ssn also. I am really fed up with javascript, somehow, it doesn't work well for me. Always, get page errors and it is not that easy to find out the errors in javascript.....
I'm developing in ASP/VBScript using DreamweaberMX, w/ an Access 2000 DB as the data source. The source of the data is coming from a third party, which I get as a CSV and import into the database, updating it weekly.
Since I have no control over how the data is collected, I'm not sure how to fix this problem, but here it is.
This is a database of movies and among the many fields I import is one for the movie's length, expressed in HH:MM:SS. This comes into the Access DB as a Date/Time format, which means all the dates, displayed raw in the DB, look like "12:09:52 AM". Through data formatting, however, displaying it to the client as HH:MM:SS is no problem. (Display "12:36:00 AM" as military time (00:36:00) tells me the movie is 0 hrs, 36 minutes, 0 seconds long. Follow?)
But in an update form, which we'll use to correct errors (and there always seem to be errors in the running times of movies), I can't figure out how to display it in the HH:MM:SS format in an INPUT field and have it submit without throwing a data type mismatch error. It seems to want to display as "12:36:00 AM"
Converting the field to a text type is out of the question at this point, so I know I need to do some type of string manipulation prior to update. However, I'm lost ...
When e-mailing invoices and estimates, is there any way to customize the presentation of the e-mail beyond changing the message? Specifically, I'd like to add some html so the receiver can click on a link to pay online. As it is, I can type the URL in the message, but it appears only as text to the reader, not a hotlink, which, unfortunately, is quite vexing to some of my clients.
It would also be nice to add a company logo, etc. to the email body.
On this same subject, is it possible to send the entire invoice/estimate as HTML rather than an attached PDF? I haven't seen these options anywhere.
I'm currently doing some work with ASP and XML DOM.
Is there any way when saving XML to get ASP to save it in a formatted way? Similar to PHP's formatOutput setting? At the moment my xml is being appended on line e.g
<test>1</test><test>2</test> Is there a setting to get ASP to save XML like:
<test>1</test> <test>2</test>
The XML document I'm working on is fairly large and its proving very difficult to read through the xml at the moment.
