ASP To Excel Gives #VALUE! Error. Character Limitation?
I have an ASP page that loops through a SQL Server 2000 table, then
downloads an Excel sheet the users can save, etc. Works fine, except, I
see that in one particular "comments" field the Excel sheet returns a
#VALUE! error in the cell when there is a large amount of text. I've
looked through the MSKB, MSDN and many ng posts to see if there is a
workaround or solution to this, including looking at the xlWorksheet
properties. Is there a limitation of 255 chars that can be tranferred?
When I copy and paste the text it copies into the cell fine.
Does anyone know the character limitation of an application variable ? How much can one hold ? Will it give an error if it gets too big ?
etc etc
I have a complex array that I store in them to rotate content quickly and how much data they can hold ? Well sort of an array... if ya know what I mean. I split it and parse it when I use it. Whether it's a good idea or not to fill one up what is the limit ?
I use asp to develop a web page to read an excel file containing Chinese Character then display it in the web page. Unfortunately, I cant display it!!! it will display (?????????). Code:
When I try to type something to go into the WRN_Content field it works fine unless I use the ' character then I get a 80040e14 error and it breaks the query. Is there anyway that I can get around this other than not using the ' character...
when I tried to execute my ASP code I'm getting the follwoing error
"(0x800A0408) Invalid character /aspprgs/show_login.asp, line 24, column 34 Set connobj = Server.CreateObject(“ADODB.Connection”)" --------------------------------^
the following is the code.I creatd a DSN and to access from ASP I set it as system DSN...
where the querysting is something like "fname=this, that/this, that.xml".
I'm sure it's the comma, because if I remove it and rename the file and folder, everything works. I believe that a comma is a valid character in a folder or filename, so why does MapPath barf on it? Is there any way around this still using MapPath? Can someone point me to a source with a list of the valid characters the MapPath accepts?
I am using windows 2003 server. I am Using File System Object in Asp to Search for the Files in a Folder. it is working fine for the Local Drives (C/D/E). I have a Mapped Drive "X" to a Folder on the system in same network, Fso is not able to search the Files in the X:, but I am able to see the Drive in MyComputer.
If I use the UNC Path of the System "SystemnameDrive$FolderName then Fso is able to Search and display the Files. I have not faced this problem with Windows 2000 Server, recently we have upgraded to Windows 2003, in which we are facing the problems.
I'm passing a unique identifier from page1 to page2 to page3 querried from MS SQL Server. When I pass the value, it puts the value in the curly brackets. (Page1 is for display and Page2 is for edit and Page3 is update edit)
When I go to Page3, it gives me an error saying "Syntax error converting from a character string to uniqueidentifier" {7171B9BD-4599-43D9-9521-3DA583A1BB1A} This is the value and the error page says "id=%7B7171B9BD-4599-43D9-9521-3DA583A1BB1A%7D" It seems tp put "%7B" and "%7D" for "{" and "}". Has anyone seen this?
I'm also passing numbers and text and they don't seem to have this problem, just the unique key.
Is there a limitation of the number of recordsets ASP is able to proceed. When my Access database exceeded 544 records, only first 544 records are shown...
I want to do bitwise operation on some large integers.
For example,
Response.Write CBool(2 AND 2^30) ' returns False Response.Write CBool(2 AND 2^31) ' CRASHED!
Looks like the AND operator can only deal with integers up to 2147483647? Is there a way to make the AND operator work with larger integers, such as the double datatype?
I am getting an error on a page that uses asp to query a db then opens the page on the client in excel. The error is only occuring on XP boxes only. If I comment out the cache killers it opens fine but I want to make sure a user gets the most up to date data so I need some cache control in there. What can I do to fix this? Code:
I am trying to download a table of data from an ASP page into Excel. The link opens Excel OK and creates a worksheet with the name of the ASP page, but no data is transferred.
If I remove (comment out) the Response.ContentType line from my code, then the table appears on the asp page.
I have an asp page that queries a db and displays the data in an html table. This page has a hyperlink that goes to another asp page that is meant to load the same data table in Excel. This all works fine on windows 2000. This app has been running now for close to a year.
On XP however I get an error message ststing that the Temporary file whatever.xls could not be found. Check the spelling and verify if the file location is correct. This has happened on all XP boxes. I can save the file and then open but users don't want that extra click.
The code in the asp file that is meant to spawn Excel looks like this: ...
I have created one dynamic chart creation application using vb dll. If I call this function from vb it is working fine. But If i call this function from ASP i got error while opening the excel file line. I have windows 2000 server. Do i need to give any permission for this? The same coding is working fine in NT server.
The code below (partial) should export a file as Excel when the button near the bottom is clicked. The example I pulled the concept from uses a GridView for binding. I don't need to display it, just export it, so I created ExcelGrid visible=false at the bottom. The Response.Write(strQuery); is never getting executed. I get:
Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Control 'ExcelGrid' of type 'GridView' must be placed inside a form tag with runat=server.
I'm almost positive (from what you see below) that my ExcelGrid is inside the form tag, which contains the runat=server.
Any ideas? It works when you pull that code and just run the rest of the form so the runat=server is working for all of the other controls! Code:
i can use Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") successfully, why this excel.application cannot work?is there any other way to read data from an excel file?
I am using an ASP script on my site that reads a microsoft excel file and adds the values to the database (MS SQL Server). The script works completely fine on my LOCAL server, but it shows me the following error when I upload it to the server and try to run it.

I am using mySQL with ASP. I have a trouble with Turkish characters as I am tring to get and display data from mySQL database. However, I can see whole Turkish characters exactly when I use phpMyAdmin.I used the following tags on HTML but I couldn't achieve to display Turkish characters in any way.

We have an application which uses surname and the date of birth to allow people to login. The SQL gives an error if the user's surname contains the character '
I have a partner sending me by post method to an asp page some text (xml string).
It arrives to my page encoded as follows %9a%2f%Purchaseorder%3....f
The < and > and spaces are replaced by nuĂąmbers and percentage sign I am using Request.BinaryRead(BytesTotal) and then doing response write and I am getting exactly the same string with the encoding How can tell my asp page to translate the encoded text to normal text?
How do I remove those special characters in a variable? I think there are a dozen special character and so I use a dozen replace object. Is there an object that call this in one call instead of a dozen?
I'm having a problem finding/using an escape character with this ASP/JScript application I'm creating. Basically I have text sometimes that has apostrophes or double quotations in them, but they won't be INSERTED unless I manually take them out.
Ex: INSERT INTO tbl1 (vendor, reason) VALUES (81,"This is only a test, but there is an apostrophe and it's only going to make things worse.")
That apostrophe in "it's" is kiling everything. I've used the replace method to change it to " ' ", but that STILL doesn't work. I can't find MS SQL's ESCAPE CHARACTER. I've tried several directions of the backslash, but no luck.
I am trying to only have a link show if there is a certin value in the DB. This is what I am trying:
<% if (rsWelcome.Fields.Item("access_level").Value) = "admin" then
response.Write("| - <a href="sps_main.asp">Sales Training Support </a>-")
end if %>
BUT... this is the error I get:
Expected ')'
/sta/topnav_test.asp, line 9 response.Write("| - <a href="sps_main.asp">Sales Training Support </a>-") How do I use quotes in a "response" and have the app server ignore them??
The application should have a way of alerting the user if it does not recognize a character used by the website and give the user the ability to make adjustments to the unrecognized characters. The system should then remember the characters that have been adjusted by the user.
