Does anyone know how I can use asp to access a specific entry in a microsoft access database table without having to run a search of the entire database? I figure this can be done with the primary key, but I'm not sure how to do it. I've looked for tutorials, but none seem to deal with this.
View RepliesI have a created a cost reporting system which shows a level-breakdown
report. There are three levels in the report the lowest level holds the cost
items that are entered by the user these records also have an Entry Date.
The level above that is a Sum of the lowest level and the top level is the
Sum of the second level. I created the solution using three queries in
Access. I then use the queries in ASP to generate the report. But now I need
to use the Entry Date at the lowest level to re-generate the report with
values from the StartDate to the EntryDate (which is entered by the user).
Question is, can I do this using the construction I use, or do I have to
pull my queries to the ASP code and include the dynamic EntryDate? How do I
solve this?
As part of a data input script, I ask for a user name to be input into an Access DB field called surprisingly, "UserName". I would like to ensure that username is not duplicated. How do I do that before inserting the data. My example show in the incomplete script below doesn't work? Code:

How do I change a blank database entry, so when I retrieve it blank I output a string say <i>N/A</i> into a table? Currently I have an if/elseif/else like this.Code:

I have a string of ASP code that writes a new database entry into my SQL server table. Is there a function that I can run directly after the database entry code, that can tell me if the data was successfully entered? Eg of current code:

If database update successful -> function should return 1 If database update fails -> function should return 0 ... or something like that. In any case, some exception response should be returned.
When a file is uploaded, notifications go out to Admins. Currently Admins have the ability to have 3 email addresses that the notification can be sent to.
Now lets say they only have 1 email address for a contact. When I run the code below, it cycles through to everyone that needs to be contacted and sends email to all 3 addresses.....BUT #2 & #3 are empty and then in my SMTP folder I receive a bunch of files in the badmail folder.
I need to correct this so that I can eliminate having to go and purge on a daily basis.
Now I am sure that there is a better way of doing this... I inherited this and am looking for some help with correcting this....
Let's say I have a dynamic list/menu, which gets its values from a
database table, for example a list of contact people where the value is
an ID number and the label is the name. However, if the value the user
wants is not in the list I would like to place a hyperlink which
will...
(1) open a small window, with an ASP form to allow the user to add a
new entry
(2) save the entry to the database
(3) add that value to the list/menu in the parent window and make it
the selected option
(4) close the small window and return to the original window.
I can handle the code for 1,2 and 4, but 3 is what I'm not sure about.
I don't like the idea of forcing the user to leave the current screen,
go to some other form, add the entry they need to the lookup table,
then come back; this seems like a logical approach, but just wondering
how to make it work.
This seems like a common enough situation; anyone have any code samples
or suggestions about how to do this?

I have an ASP page needs to access a remote MS Access2000 database, I got error "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'F:Collect.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. ".
The 'F:' is a mapped drive from remote machine where the access database loactes. If I copy the database back to local box, no problem.
I'm looking to make an online multiplayer game which will utilize Access Database... basically I require thousands of people writing and reading from the same database... I was wondering if this is possible for that... or is mdb file restricted to 1 person at a time...

I have a single table, with 8 fields. I want to allow users to filter their selections on 3 fields, specifically County, DistrictName, and Date. I would like users to be able to chose one a specific field from each of these 3 or default to all. Users will not be able to update the database, they will simply be returned data.
Add to this one of the fields is an amount field in which a user can see the sum of the data returned. In conjunction I will also need a flag for amounts which have not yet posted so that these do not report in the sum amount. We are using ms access database for our development and we r facing a strange problem.
We've to store date in dd/mm/yyyy format and display so to the user.Ifwe enter a date in the range 1-12 the date is getting stored in the format mm/dd/yyyy whereas dates above that get stored properly ie dd/mm/yyyy format.
Why is that. Is it a known issue ? How do we solve that ? Please advice.Is there any setting that we need to change or set some format in the access table ?
