Server XMLHTTP

I have a peculiar problem using the method

Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP") in order to get a connection
from one server to another.

On my personal host (IIS) the above method works perfect, and I can 'include' an HTTP stream from a remote URL into my own page. However, the method doesn't work on another webserver (IIS, too) although the MSXML2.ServerXMLHTPP method is installed (I checked it).

The error message I get there is:
msxml3.dll error '80072ee2' The operation timed out

This error does only appear if I try to get data from a remote URL, if I try to get data from http://localhost/foo, the method works - I believe the webserver is behind a proxy. Would this cause any problems? And if so, how can it be solved?

- Do you guys know of any other solution how to 'emulate' the php
include command in ASP without using the MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP method?

Server.Transfer Method...

Got a quick query in relation to the Server.Transfer method available in IIS
5+/ASP. I've got an issue where I want to take a portion of an online app and
extract this out into a web site on its own, so I will end up having two web
sites. This planned to aid problems we've been having with performance, as if
the portion (which is an app in its own right) has problems we then have to
restart the whole site and so bring everything down just because of the
portion of the app which we're having issues with. Taking the portion of the
site will allow us to run it in isolated mode in ISS and so just restrat that
if needed, while not affecting the rest of IIS.

Anyways, I'm in the process of writing a jump page to facilitate the process
of moving from the first site to the new second site, but as we need to reuse
session info created in site 1 I need a way of passing this over to the
second site.

I've been aware of the Server.Transfer but never really used it so I'm not
too sure how I can actually use this. I was planning to write an ASP page
that takes the required info out of session is site 1, calling
Server.Transfere to send it over to the second site. I don't want to do a
Response.Redirect, not wanting the client to do this and not allowing it to
know what info I'm using in the session.

And so, I thought the Server.Transfer would facilitate this, but after
reading some of the documentation on MSDN I'm not sure I can, ie: redirect to
another ASP page in this way and tack on a QueryString holding all the
session info I need, as MSDN says that I'll get an 'ASP 0173 error, "Invalid
Path Character"' error if I have a question-mark '?' in the path, or any
other of a list of invalid chars. But then I need this '?' char to build my
QString ie: XXX.asp?sas=123&jdy=0689...

So what I'm after is some clarification that I can use Server.Transfere in
this way or not, ie to redirect to an ASP page and tack on a QueryString, of
if it just allows for an ASP page without s QString. So then if I want to do
this I might need to use the Response.Redirect method, or some other way!!

MSDN also says: "When you use the Transfer method, the state information for
all the built-in objects are included in the transfer. This means that any
variables or objects that have been assigned a value in session or
application scope are maintained"

....So will I have the session info from site 1 available in site 2 after the
redirect or does this only apply for a Server.Transfer within the same web
(which I think is what it means!).

I don't have an environment up that I can test this on yet so I'm kinda
feeling may wat in the dark here, hence my lengthly post.

Is there anyway I can translate the directory path and place inside the mappath function so I dont have to manually edit it?

Connection String Server.mappath Method

Ive got this on the page so far and it works:

strConnString.ConnectionString="DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" & "DBQ=c:Inetpubwwwrootdlnforumforumadminwwforum.mdb"
strConnString.open

But I want to change it to a Server.MapPath method, so I tried the following:
------------------------------------------------
Dim strConnString
set strConnString = server.createobject("adodb.connection")
strConnString.ConnectionString="DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" & Server.MapPath("forum/admin/wwforum.mdb")
strConnString.open
---------------------------------------------------
But now I get the following error:
-------------------------------------------
Error Type:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80040E4E)
Operation was canceled.

Can anyone help me out?

Lost Data If Using Server.Transfer Method Only In IE, Not In Firef

Our asp programs seem to have different behaviors when users use IE and firefox. One of most annoying things is the data disappearing problem in IE but not in firefox.(Note: Sometimes a search program can run much faster in Firefox than in IE, don't know why)
For example, I have an internal user interface which they can do different product data
entry, the program will use Server.Transfer to different asp program for data entry.

Page1---UserInterface.asp
Select Case Request("Product")
Case "Sel"
Server.transfer("/Virtualdir1/test1.asp ")

Server.Transfer("/Virtualdir2/Test2.asp")

Case "Bear"
Server.Transfer("/Virtualdir3/test3.asp")

Case "IMED"
Server.Transfer("test4.asp")

Case "AC"
Server.Transfer("/Virtualdir4/test5.asp")

Case Else

End Select

When user finished data entry on test1.asp(second page, the web address will still show UserInterface.asp page as you know), click continue, on the third page if they found something typed wrong, if they click back button in the broswer, all data on the second page is gone. This only occurrs in IE, Firefox is fine.

It's very annoying, how can I fix it, if not, is there any other way?

The Server.CreateObject Method For Creating Text Files

I have made a asp page that will read a db table and select certain fields concerning the current day's activities to be written to a text file. After the information about the current day's activities has been compiled, it is stored in a variable and written to a text file.

What I would like to do is create a text file for each day instead of over-writing the same one. Is there another Server.CreateObject method that will allow the 'creation' of a text file rather than just over-writing a text file that already exists? I would use "month(date)", "day(date)","year(date)" to append to a text file name to keep it unique.

Below is what I currently use to create a text file. But any new information will only overwrite what is already contained in the text file. Code:

SQL Server Vs. Access

b) syntax of my SQL statements
c) other problems I may not have thought of.

I am told it is really easy, however, I just cannot get is to work. BTW, I have activated the "SQL Syntax" option in Access, in case that helps any.

ASP & ACCESS/SQL Server

This might be more of a database question than ASP. But when you create a database and then create relationships with the database, once you open an asp page say to create a new record; once the record is saved, shouldn't it also update the relationship with the table involved?

Unless I am doing something wrong, it is not updating the second table; for example:

rs.AddNew
rs("username") = Request.Form("txtUserName")
rs("password") = Request.Form("txtPassword")
rs("firstname") = Request.Form("txtFirstName")
rs("lastname") = Request.Form("txtLastName")
rs("email") = Request.Form("txtEmail")
rs.Update

Response.Write("Record has been added!")

Say the information is entered, because of the UserID field is "autonumber", that would be my primary key: so "1" would be related with the second table where I have:

upload.id (PK)
userID
Upload1
date1
Upload2
date2
Upload3
date3

If on the other table I have number of uploads to generate, whenever it adds a document, it would have the relationship of the username, and the upload:

But when I do that, even adding the code, it does not update the code. So what am I doing wrong? Do I have to do another Add.New at the same time for the second table?

From PHP/MySQL To ASP/SQL Server Or Access

I have always used PHP and MySQL to do anything database related on the web, however I find myself in a new situation. I've been handed the daunting task of creating a (relatively) simple, partially database driven website for my company's intranet.

The one problem I have is that all of our servers are Windows 2000 based because all of the in-house software we have works off of SQL Server... and I've never touched a windows based server, SQL Server, or ASP in my life.

Searching through the forums, I've been able to find a few ASP tutorial sites, but everything I've found seems to be either all technical info and no basics or a basic tutorial written for people who are already familiar with Visual Basic, C, or another type of windows programming 'thing'.

FSO Remote Server Access

Wish I'd found the thread yesterday before spending half the day fighting
the same battle and finding a workaround. But at least it explains why my
final approach worked.I set the remote folder as a virtual folder on the webserver, assigned web rights to a domain user and used fso.copyfile(server.mappath) to copy a
file created locally.I'm not thrilled that access to the remote location can't be controlled at the user level this way but at least access to the calling script can.
Strange though, the problem showed up during a migration. Server A had been
hosting this asp page and connecting to server B sucessfully. I was moving
the application to server C when I ran into the problem. All three machines
are W2K, same service pack, same domain, same users, same access
rights/method configuration. Go figure.

Can't Connect To SQL Server 2005 Db With Asp But Access 2k3 Is Ok.

I am about to migrate my asp web pages from a previous well functioning connection with Access 2003 to SQL Server 2005 Express Edition instead.

In this microscopic database I have onnly a single table called "name" and in this table I have two columns called "fname" and "lname". I have two records stored in the name table. What I want to achieve is simply to display these two records in my asp-page.

How can I achieve this and what am I missing here?
