Accessing Text Or Large Varchar Fields In SQL Server
I have read that there can be a periodic problem when reading large varchar or text fields from SQL server (or memo fields from Access)--they can sometimes come up as empty strings.
What I have been unable to find out is whether this problem is still around in recent versions of MDAC (>= 2.8). Does anyone know whether this problem still occurs--is it still necessary to follow the steps in that aspfaq article?
I am creating a dynamic website using ASP and an MS Access backend DB. I am a little confused with how to go about things and am now facing the following problem. I want a large volume of text to be loaded dynamically on my page but don't really understand how i should be storing this text as the database fields will only hold a max 255 chars.
Obviously this is not large enough to store all of the text i may need and so where should i be storing the text? The only idea i had was storing the text in an external text file to which i point to with the database field (i.e. database holds the path to the txt instead of the actual text itself).....is this possible? or more to the point is there a better way? How would this normally be accomplished?
I am trying to create an ASP page that processes a large block of text that is posted to the page. The data block is approximately 500K. The only was I can figure to get the posted text into a string is using BinaryToString. Is there another way to just get the body of text that is posted?
I am looking for a script in which I can replace any word in one table (which corresponds) to other table with a link....
To for example when the name Bill Clinton is in a large piece of text in TABLE1 and Bill Clinton is a row in TABLE2 then I want Bill Clinton in the text to display as a link leading to a page where there's more info on Bill Clinton from TABLE2
When I execute this code, I receive this error on line 314: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Error converting data type varchar to int. Line 314 is the classComm.Execute line. All the datatypes in my stored procedure those specified in the parameter declararations, and they all match with the datatypes in the DB. Other than the strings that are integer (strClassID) or date (strOccurDate), everything is a varchar.
I have no idea why this error is occurring. I have a similar stored procedure that adds the records in the same way and it kicks out the same error at the same time.
vMessageText = "This is a test just to see if it will blow up on a large comment. Just testing again. Don't mind me."
Can I put this into my database field or is it too much and if not, how do I solve this issue. I need to be able to post messages and input for large fields.
I want to count number of data available depending upon the conditions in the large database the database table rows are approximately 3 lakhs and there are multiple table to be searched and records need to be displayed in ASP pages.
Kindly suggest the best scripting method as i am always getting error like "Script Time Out" Error in Active Server Pages (ASP)
please suggest how to avoid or in sql server i can create some pre defined script and just call from asp pages
This ASP (Visual Studio 6) code works on other PCs (The ASP code runs locally on localhost), but it causes IE to hang on a new PC (again, the ASP code runs locally on localhost). I think it may be a permissions issue. Code:
Development environment: Windows 2003 Server running IIS6 and the same server running as a domain controller, DNS and DHCP servers.
Production environment: Windows 2000 Server SP4 running IIS5 and not used to provide domain control or name services.
The two environments are on different networks with no trust relationship between them. In both environments the web server is set up to disallow anonymous access and to use integrated Windows authentication. The application is vanilla ASP (i.e. not .NET) VBScript.
In the development environment, the following code runs flawlessly no matter whether "myUNCPath" points to a share on the web server or a share on another server in the same domain.
Set objFilesys = Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") If Not objFileSys.FolderExists(myUNCPath) Then Set objFolder = objFileSys.CreateFolder(myUNCPath) End If
However, in the production environment it falls over with a permission denied error when "myUNCPath" is on another server and further testing shows that the FolderExists method is returning false even when "myUNCPath" exists. The network share is configured to give full control to the Everyone group.
I've found http://support.microsoft.com/kb/207671 which although referring to IIS4 suggests that the issue could be the authentication method (I'm assuming that integrated Windows authentication is close enough to NT Challenge/Response and so might generate a token that cannot access network resources). I'm not sure of this is the problem because if it were then the code shouldn't work in my development environment.
Any ideas on what's going wrong and how to access the network resources in the production environemt?
I am trying to access a LDAP server with ASP with no sucess. I can do it with ColdFusion but not ASP. All the examples I have seen so far do not use passwords or userid's. My LDAP server requires password and user credentials. Can anyone point me in the right direction.
I am trying to execute some code from an ASP page which connects to the database.I am getting the error message from SQL Server. The error message is:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80040e14'
The specified schema name "aspSchema" either does not exist or you do not have permission to use it.Can someone please tell me why I am getting this error and how to solve it?
I have developed a fairly simple CMS for my intranet at work - I would like to have a "Request a photographer form" that e-mails me the posted data by utilizing our intranet exchange server, if possible.
I'm not really looking to code this but I will if I absolutely have to =) Anyone know how to do it or where I can find a simple form script that does? I have found lots that work with sendmail and other types of servers but none for exchange.
I'm working on creating a search functionality. I have keywords of articles in one column of a SQL server table, and the search terms of the user is hitting that column.
It works but I'm stuck on how to determine relevancy. I know you can create indexes in SQL server, and if it works anything lik Index Server, I was thinking that I could connect via ADO and determine relevancy.
I am about to show a text field from SQL7.0 database, but need to display x number of images spread out amongst the text!! Basically similar to how bbc.co.uk/news display news articles....
I am wondering the best way to do this...
I was considering splitting the text into variables and then to display these sections next to the images.
i have a form that has a multiple fields, when a user chooses an option from option seleect then it should disable some part of the form and i have no idea how to do that.
Using ASP,VB Script,Access 2000. I have a macro which imports Fox Pro 2.6 databases into Access on a daily basis and then these tables are uploaded to the website.
When the tables are imported the fields which store numerical values with 2 decimal places are converted to text fields and it drops any zeros after the decimal point (e.g 124.40 becomes 124.4 and 110.00 becomes 100).
I am querying these new tables in my ASP pages but I want to convert these text fields back into numerical values with two decimal places. This is so that product price list on my page is all formatted the same. Is there a function I can use in my SQL statement to achieve this, or will I have to run a macro which re-designs the tables before I upload them to my website?
I have a form where you input year (number) and a Ref (number) and a section (char) and then submit to output a record, i added an if with a messageto prevent the eof and bof , and it is working if i inputed wrong numbers, but if i input text in the year or the ref, he will give the following message, how to prevent users from entering text into numbers fields, because in the database they are numbers, or what else could i do.

I have implemented a Web Service on an IIS 5.0 platform using the ASP listener I can access the Web Service just fine from a VB 6 App and classic ASP using the SOAP 3.0 toolkit and its "MSSOAP.SoapClient30" object
However, one of the servers that I'd like to call the Web Service from is a shared hosting platform that does not offer the "MSSOAP.SoapClient30" object It only has the MS XMLDOM. I have located an example of Accessing a Web Service via the MSXML DOM from an Active Server Page where the Web Service is on a .NET platform (http://home.att.net/~codeLibrary/ASP/ws.htm
But I need to know how to access a Web Service from an Active Server Page with the MS XMLDOM where the Web Service is implemented using classic ASP.
I want to be able to client process of the ASP page to get the value populated in Request("rssFeed"), how can I do this because the Request object is not available to the Client-side.
My ISP provides some scripts that allow control of the server by using scripts that are accessed via http. I want to be able to access these scripts from an ASP/Jscript application but I don't want the command displayed in the address bar of the browser. Adds a mail alias fred to user@domain.dom . I think that this can be done with fopen in PHP but I don't know how it is done with ASP.
I have an events calendar on my site, allowing local people to post events there. Two problems have come up:1. In the details section, people will naturally want to include apostrophes (single quotes) from time to time. This fails, because VBScript sees them as delimiters. Is there any form of quote marks I can use to make sure this doesn't happen?
2. The same field is defined in the Access db as Memo, which normally gives up to 64K of text, as opposed to Text, which only allows 255. Despite this, text over 255 is ignored, leading to the text being truncated.
I have a form that has a drop-down select box which is linked to a database table, and also tow text fields. I would like to show or hide text fields according to the value selected in the select-box without refreshing the page.
If I select TEST from the select box I want to show the RESULT field and hide OTHER field . If I select anything else I want to show the OTHER field and hide RESULT field. I'm interesting code in ASP and PHP.
I have 3 fields in my form and one of them called ID with multiple text fields e.g (there are 10 text fields for ID) and when you submit the form all the 10 ID's should be submitted to the DB for that particular record with a single space inbetween the 10 ID's. Can any one tell me how this is possible.
Is there any way that I can break up text in a text field to spread across multiple fields in an access database? I've got a FAQ section that I want admins to be able to edit via an online interface. Unfortunately, it often doesn't fit into the 255 character restriction that access has. Any ideas?
i want create a form that include many text boxes and an fiel field for upload a file to server but when i add "enctype="multipart/form-data" in the form tag i cant get the texts . how can i do a form working with file upload and text fields.
I am trying to bind/link 2 text fields on my online form.
So they both should show the exact same text entered in them.
When text is entered in one of them I want to see it in the other text box and vice versa and when text is deleted from one of the boxes it should also be deleted from the other one aswell.
I've been browsing this and a few other related newsgroups trying to get my head around this problem, and so far all the trails seem to go cold, without an acceptable solution being reached. I'm posting here because there seems to be a few MVP's knocking around, and if they dont know, then it's a safe bet nobody does.
I'm beginning to think that what I want to do is simply not possible - but i'll put it out there once more.
Here goes: I'm writing a content managaement system - and i'm making use of dynamic includes via the "read a text file" technique, and then substitiuting values into markers in the template. Code:
I am working on a small application for senior users, so I want to limit the option for incorrect input whatsoever. I have a drop down box that is populated from a query and I want to make it so that when an option is selected, the pertinent text fields are populated based on the selection.
All the info I need is already being extracted from the query so its just a matter of displaying the right info based on the selection. I have been looking for examples of code but they all seem to use javascript. I am not too strong in javascript so I kinda avoided those. if there is a pure asp example, that would be fine!
I am trying to access a webservice to post some values via MSXML2.ServerXMLHttp The OS used is win2003 on both machines.
When I access the local machine (A) which has the same service the call works great. When I access the other machine (B) that is on the same subnet, I get a Status of 500. Code:
I have a asp page that has a form that I have to submit to a third party website.if their is a way to create form values using asp to submit the secure data without having it in a hidden field where it can be seen when viewing page source?
Currently I have my asp code writing out hidden form fields using the response.write when the page loads then after everything is loaded JavaScript submits the form.
Can anyone tell me if there is a way to validate form fields using the dreamweaver server behaviours except using javascript. Basically I need a method of validating each form field when the form is submitted. I don't want to use javascript as I know that users can switch 'active scriting' off, which disables javascript. Due to the forms being critical inputs within an e-commerce system, I must validate them 'server-side'. Is their a dreameaver extension that does this or has anyone over come this issue before?
I keep optimizing my fields down to the minimum character length necessary i.e., varchar(15), then I find out a month later its gotta get bigger, then a few months later, bigger again, etc. Nowadays on sql server 2005 and on, how bad is it really to use varchar(max)? Is there really a big performance or storage hit or is it negligible?
