Im trying to detect multiple logins...
Im using a application object in my global.asa, for some reason it doesnt seem to work. here is my code

In my pages if i print the Application("Logged") value, it does not show....
I have a problem with restricting multiple users to get access to my site with the same username and password.
I allready set up a table getting the UserID of the user and putting it in the table, therefore restricting access for future logins as long as the users Session is still valid.
Now to my problem. When the user logs out everything is great, but when he just closes IE the session is still valid and the field in the DB will not be deleted. I have put a SQL in the Sessoin_OnEnd in the global.asa file, but since this site is a micro site in another folder than the root, the global.asa can effect the main site aswell. And it will take at least 15 minutes before he can login again (and I do not want to set session.timeout any lower).
I want to prevent multiple logins in my web application. For eg:If a user "userA" logs into the application,some other user with same userid "userA" should not be allowed to login as long as previously logged in "userA" is active.
Is there any solution? One method I thought was when user logs into application,
I set a flag in table.If user logs out of application from the logout button explicitly provided in application, I reset the flag for that userid.But if user closes the application from browser(close) , I am unable to find a way to reset a flag.
I am using a stored procedure that outputs multiple recordsets.
I use <% SET rsDisplay = rsDisplay.NextRecordset() %to step to the
next recordset.
In one particular condition the final recordset is not passed to the
page, so I need to detect that the object is empty.
I did just try <% If NOT rsDisplay.EOF Then %but I get:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a01a8'
Object required
Any ideas how I can trap this error? I just want the area on the ASP
page not to display when there isn't a final recordset.
I am creating a web-based application with ASP and using frames. I wonder how we could trace user's browsing behaviours in this particular domain. That is, I need to know which pages the user has viewed and which pages the user has not yet visited, as this information is essential and will be used to assess their learning paths and progress.
Therefore, my question is that how to create a file which stores information about users' browsing history, i.e. the page the user visited, so that we could use these information to assess users' learning progress, or what is the right means to tackle this requirements?
We have our web site setup on two seperate servers. They are connected together through a BIG/IP server. I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with BIG/IP (load balancing) but I'll give you a quick explanation:
When a user goes to our site, they hit our BIG/IP server first. This server looks at our two web servers and determines which one has more resources to spare. The BIG/IP then redirects the user to that server, where they are on the rest of the time they are on our site.
So we have two web servers with duplicate web sites running. My problem is I need to run one application object between both servers. Is this possible, or is there a work-around?
I am developing ASP application with complicated login system. There is several group of menu options. Each have form 5 to 15 sub-options.
User can work with any combination of options and sub-options and can see only these menu options which are allowed for him. "Rights rules" are store in SQL Tables and are getting after logon.
Now a questions:
1. what is the best way to store this menu structure (Session object is not allowed because it uses Cookies) ?
2. What is the best way to handle the "rights rules" ?

I am trying to get to the application object from a seperate class in my ASP
application and I dont want to pass the object in as the class is inherited
to lots of other classes. So i can have something like the following:

There seems to be plenty of discussion about caching in the Application Object, however, I cant find any info on what realistic limitations there are and how they are measured.
What are the factors that will limit performance / storage of many individual or single large bits of data with application scope? eg database driven list boxes (that dont require up to the minute data) 10 * 100 options? 100 * 100 options? kb's? megs of info? How much can I cache?
I'm having trouble with the workflow described bellow:
1. Asp page 1 on server A contains an iframe.
2. Asp page 1 submits a form targeted to the iframe, to Asp page 2 on
server B.
3. Asp page 2 runs in the iframe and at some point might decide to submit a
form targeted to the _top frame, to page 3 on Server B.

Rather than opening and closing a new connection to the database on every page, I have placed that connection into an Application variable. This has worked fine so far.
My issue is that I have a logoff page where it closes that connection.But this means that users who are on the application will not be able to access that connection.The obvious answer is that I don't close the database connection.But my problem is, I would like to eventually close that database connection.
How can I determine if an application variable (not session variable) exists?How can I determine that there are not any users on the application?
My asp application allows a number of users to log into it. Each user has a different type of access level (General User, Manager or Administrator). I want the administrator to be able to see how many other users are logged into the application at a particular time. How can I do this? Would the use of an application object work for this?

We have pretty simple ASP (not ASP.Net) application, which has been running fine on IIS4 and IIS5. It has now been moved to a sever running in the DMZ and managed by a 3rd party. The server is Win2003 and IIS 6.0.

I'm looking for a way to allow only one user to access my web form at a time. so that if there is a user using my web page / html form.. then the next user is directed to another page. So only one user is allowed access at any given time .I was hoping there is a way to do this with Application variables.

complex reports to hundreds of users but in some circumstances these reports
can take a long time to create. However the data for the report is cached
so subsequent calls to view the same report come back with a sub-second
response time.
In order to make use of this caching we pre-prepare some of the reports by
getting back a list of potential users from the server and then executing
reports on their behalf. When the real users log in the report is served
from the cache.
I wrote the warm caching application using VB6 and it uses XMLHTTP requests
to execute the reports. However because ASP serializes the requests to the
server the application can only have a single session open with the server.
To get round this I spawn multiple instances of the application, each
instance then has its own ASP session and the server is loaded more
efficiently.
The question is how can I create multiple ASP sessions from within a single
VB application and have each session handle its own XMLHTTP requests? Its
obviously possible as MACT, OpenSTA and LoadRunner all achieve it.
I've got quite a few identical MDB files running on an IIS5 server. From time to time I need to go into various tables and add a field or two. It would be great if there were an application out there that could either: (a) sync all MDBs designated to match one I've added some fields/tables to OR (b) tell all designated MDBs to have an extra field(s) or table(s).
I've began writing something like this that right now just does part of (b) but I'd rather find something that is much more slick and complete.

I am currently working on a small asp application. Now I would like to store the complete database connection in the application object. Note I want to store the connection NOT the connectionstring. For that purpose I wrote a small asp include which connects to the dbase and stores the connection object to the application object. However when I use this include in my pages then it doesnt work. I use the variables for stuff like connection string, database name, etc. I store the values in a asp file that is included in a login page. The assignments are in a procedure that I then call on the login page. This is done everytime a user connects to
the login page.
what's happening to the variables? Are they being overwritten everytime a user accesses the page? I'm not checking for the existence of the variables. I just call the routine everytime the page is accessed. I know the values are shared for all users but, I was wondering if I should check for the existence of variables? Will it free up resources? Should I be using locks?
I have developed an ASP web application. If I sell this out to my client, how can I make sure that he doesn't run multiple copies of it. That is when I sell the web application my client should be restricted from running more than one copy.

I'm trying to make my login page also insert into a seperate table a list of users when they login. The current code returns no errors but does not write to the table. It is still checking the user and password correctly but that's it. Any ideas? I'm sure it's something stupid but I can't see it. Also is there anyway to encrypt the login too? Code:

I would like to prevent a user from logging in with their user/password combination on a different computer or even a different browser window, if they are already logged in. I have a login page, from which I use a DB check to verify user/password info. Also, I have a bit loggedIN field in the DB, which I use to see if they are currently logged in; if so, I prevent them from logging in a second time.
Unless they click the "Log Out" button, then the DB value does not get changed. Any suggestions as to how I can log them out, even if they simply close the browser window or jump to a different page?
I need to display the # of online users on my system, as well as the 10 users that last logged in at that moment....How would I do this? Im sorry if question is vague but I've never done this before and I've no idea how to do it. Will I be needing an application variable? Do I have to use it on a global.asa file?
