Authenticating User/Pass In Network Domain
I want to do involves logging into a remote computer, in the form of computerc$ , and copying some files.
That computer has a fixed username/password that I can have embedded in the ASP (no big security risks). How can I do this in ASP? Or, is there any tutorial you know that explains how to do this.

Is there an easier way to handle that? I used Javascript to handle this when our two domains are hosted on two different servers(on different networks) and our search engine marketing people don't like the javascript links since they think the links are not favorable to a search robot.
Now our company is thinking about hosting these two domians on the same server, So I am wodering if there is any easy way to do that....

How can I get the user ID (Novell 5, IIS5 on Windows 2000 Server) using ASP?
I did find an example using JavaScript however it uses an ActiveX control
and then all my users would have to click OK to allow the control to run.
Or I could change the security setting, but we are talking over 1,500
machines.

How can I get the domain, username and PC network name (Win 2000 Pro & Win XP Pro PC's) of the current logged on user (logged onto a domain and access an intranet page, Window 2000 server running IIS) and put this automatically in a textbox in an webpage. Can this be done with asp & VB?
I basically want to automatically populate a username field with the users logon so the do not need to type it themselves, leading to type errors

if it's possible to allow regular windows domain users to change their passwords through an .asp page? I'm trying to figure out the best way to handle domain users to log into an .asp application tied with SQL Server 2000 on the back end since I keep reading that windows authentication is better practice to log into SQL Server.

I have several website that use asp pages and backend databases running on my win2000 server. I removed everyone from the permissions on all of my Hard drives and added the annonymous user to the winnt folder and the wwwroot folder and all of the folders within these directories. Now my sites that just run straight html work fine but my sites with .asp pages are having problems.
However if I add the Domain Administrator account as the annonymous user to the site it will work. Then I have reverted back to the I_USR account and the site still works until the server has to be rebooted. At this point the site won't work until I add and then remove the admin user as the annonymous user to the site.

I am trying to write a script that will access files on another computer on the network but in a seperate domain. In order to access the files, I need to first authenticate to the other domain as a different user.
When I access files on another domain via explorer, it prompts for a username/password. Is there some way I can pass this same information through scripting to access a computer in the other domain?
I attempted to do this with impersonation, but if I understand correctly, in order to impersonate a user, the user must exist on the local computer running the script. The user that I would like to use exists only on the other domain. how this can be done?

We have two sites hosted on different servers and we have many pages on
domain A which has many links(asp programs) to domain B.
My question is if domain B server is in trouble, what is the best way to
have all domain pages redirect to domain A? Right now I just have redirect
code in each program on domain B to redirect to a maintenance page on domain
A.
Can I just write on program to solve this issue?

I have an intranet which all staff have access to. All staff can log in to the intranet to amend their own personal info. Currently staff have seperate passwords for logging on to their machines (ie ACL on network server) and logging on to the intranet.
Is it possible to have someone automatically logged in to the intranet based on their windows username and password for the domain?
Just wondering if anyone else has tried this. I think I saw this as an option in ASP.NET but my intranet is built using ASP.

I need to authenticate users to enter in a NTLM-protected virtual directory, but I can't pop up a NT-login dialogue box - I can only do a web-based username/password form (my client is a "usability" firm!). After searchingand searching, I finally found up with this solution to use ADSI to authenticate users transparently:
http://www.eggheadcafe.com/articles/20010126.asp
I tried the script and I am able to authenticate that the user exists with the correct password, but when I redirect the user to the virtual directory, the popup box is still popping up! I think what is happening is that I am not actually passing the username/password to the NT server.
Is anybody familiar with using ADSI for NT log in's?Am I on the righttrack? And if so, how do I actually do this so that the NT login boxdoesn't pop up?

I am attempting to create a web-page that will check several servers and
verify that the local admin account has been renamed properly. I've written
a .vbs (command file) to do it - I have the necessary rights on each
server - and it works just fine (portion shown below)
My problem is converting it to an asp web page. When I try, I always get a
security failure. I've checked and the page is running under a domain id
with admin rights to the servers. I am assuming its something I just can't
find the answer to, about the way ASP handles security impersonation. Can
someone point me to where I need to look? Code:

I'm looking to distribute links to a site by mail, and then identify the users following those links. (ie. embedding user id in the url, and retrieving that data)
I think Dev sheds activate account feature does what I need, as does similar features of other sites, so I would think this is pretty standardized. Unfortunately, I can't figure out what I need to feed the search engines in order to elicit a tutorial....

I've been getting this recurring "[DBMSSOCN] General Network Error" ever since we separated our web server and our database server. My connection string has been as follows:
Provider=SQLOLEDB;Data Source=machinename;Initial Catalog=xxxxxx;User
ID=xxxxxx;Password=xxxxxxx;Network Library=DBMSSOCN
Is it possible that changing the machinename to an IP address will help? Initially, it seemed as though adding the Network Library parameter was working, but recently it started to happen again.

I have written an ASP.NET 2.0 application that uses Active Directory or ADAM
to manage account users - the site has a page that allows people to create an
account (much like any site). The page populates the AD with all the
information and the user account but I am unable to enable the account.
Microsoft has information on how to do that here -->
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...ting_a_user.asp
(the sample is for Visual Basic) - and I am unable to complete the bottom
portion of the script. Can some one point me in the right direction - or can
you tell me how I can add a snippet of VBscript code to an ASP.NET page.
I am using the Active DS Type library - not sure why there are multiple ones
(System.DirectoryServices) but it is rather confusing - I seem to accomplish
one thing with one and another with the other (they did have trouble
co-existing however). Anyway my script works very well but I am not able to
access the properties required to enable the account.
Here is a simple version (no error checking) of the code.....

Below is the message I received when I attempted to use a web page on our

You have attempted to execute a CGI, ISAPI, or other executable program from
a directory that does not allow programs to be executed.

Please try the following:
a.. Contact the Web site administrator if you believe this directory
should allow execute access.
HTTP Error 403.1 - Forbidden: Execute access is denied.
Internet Information Services (IIS)

Does that mean that we need to relocate the files where the server allows
ASP executable commands to function? Or can the directories properties be changed so that such executables is allowed?

I need to know if its possible to create an ASP page that when requested
will display the network id of the requester.
Most people have told me to query the request.servervariables("LOGON_USER").
But this will get me the login of the server and not the client. In our
situation we do not want to have our users login twice (once to their machine
(the client) and then again to the server (the one that serves the asp page).
I need to know the client logon name.

I'm having a bit of a problem trying to capture a users LAN ID from the network. Currently I have an activex component that does it for me and I use Javascript to display/capture. Which was fine prior to the DDA guidelines. Now I need to find a way to do so without using JavaScript.
The first thing I tried was to use the Servervariables available but unfortunatly our servers use annonymous authentication, so I can't use that method. I've even tried but had no joy accessing Active Directory for the LAN ID, so I'm currently left scratching my head. Does anyone know of a way I can acheive this?
