Automatic .ldb File Deletion After Closing Connection To The Access DB From ASP Page
I created connection to the Microsoft Access DB using DSN from my ASP page.
<%
Set vpconn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
vpconn.ConnectionString =
"File Name=c:inetpubwwwrootDBDNAME.dsn"
vpconn.Open
' Close connection immediately after opening for testing
vpconn.Close
Set vpconn=Nothing
%>
The Microsoft Access, for every database opened for shared use, creates an .ldb file to prevent users from writing data to pages that other users have locked. Whenever the last user closes a shared database, the .ldb file should be deleted.
It is working; the .ldb file is deleted immediately after closing connection
but not if you open/close this connection from your ASP page.
What I found, the .ldb file is deleted with about 70 seconds delays after closing connection from an ASP page.

so I've had the file upload feature working on the website now for sometimes and feed file info into a database for use elsewhere. I can edit/update/delete/etc...
whatever on the database end with no trouble, but how do I delete an uploaded file itself using asp? Is there a way?

for readability purposes,I plan to standardize all my asp pages to always open connection at the beginning of the page and close the connection at the end of the page
If in the middle of the page I issued redirection, does this mean the connection will not be closed?

If I use response.redirect, is the entire page read before the page is redirected?
For example, assume I have this code where the response.redirect is located before the objConn.Close line:
Set objConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
objConn.Open "sampleDSN"
response.redirect("default.asp")
objConn.Close
Set objConn = nothing
Will the page redirect before the database is closed?

(incidentally, the more i look at it, the more i feel i should point out that to be totally sure your SQL statement is correct you should write it like:
INSERT INTO table_name (column1, column2,...)
VALUES (value1, value2,....)
so that you know your info is going to the right column on the table

I have an ASP page that runs for at least 2 mins. What the user sees is a progress bar as the page is completing execution of scripts so they know that something is being processed.
The ASP page can be quite CPU intensive and I've found that if the user decides to close the page the CPU usage does not appear to drop back to its normal levels whereas on sucessful completion of the page the CUP usage does drop to normal levels.
Now I know that after a while the CPU usage does drop to its normal levels, however, I'm weary that this could be a long time if there are simultaneous access to the same page.
My question is, is there a way of controlling this via scripts? ie. can I force the webserver(iis) to timeout the script sooner or is there a way i can kill the instruction been sent...

I recently installed IIS lockdown, and ever since my ASP pages have been hell. One problem is that now after a user views my ASP page which reads my local Access DB, the temporary file, .ldb, stays in the folder forever!
This temp file is created when a user opens the file, so I checked out the .ldb file and it says the ADMINISTRATOR is opening the file! How can the internet user be using the ADMIN account?! This is not good news! I will share my code for my page; however I have a feeling the code isn't the problem, but a setting is. Code:

if anyone had any script that can allow a page to run some code and then kick off a file download.Maybe like many places do saying download should start automatically or you can "click here".I appologise if this is easy to work out from the source of one of those pages, but my view source seems to have died and I thought an answer from here might be quicker than fixing it!

I'm using Windows 2000 Pro SP4 and Office 2000 Pro Sp3.
I have some dynamic database pages that I do not want a user to see from their local cache of pervious visits to this page.
When these individual pages are called, I would always want them refreshed from the server. This is no matter what setting is used by the local browser.
The closest KB article I found was Q200131, but that was not helpful to me.
If a page by page determination of an automatic server refresh (rather than local cache refresh) is not possible, may I just set my entire web to be a forced server refresh for every page, thereby superceding the user's local browser settings.

Basically, I want to have an asp page that has a button where when you click on it, it opens up a file open dialog box where you can search for any excel file you want to import. Then, once a file is selected, I want to read all the contents of the excel file (from column A) to display into a listbox on the screen (so that each individual row from excel file would be a separate item in the listbox). Also, this data would have to be inserted accordingly into an access database .....

My client has various Access databases that they want to be able to access (using MS Access, not through ASP pages). I thought I'd be able to create the link from an HTML page but when I do that and click the link, the file is downloaded to the local temp folder. I want the database to open directly from the web server, and then changes must be saved.

I have an ASP script that opens an Access DB and tries to record an IP address if the user has never visited the site. However, when the script is run, I get an error saying the the DB is read-only. I checked to DB propoerties and it is notlisted as read-only, and when I run my Query on it, it does not open the recordset as a read-only connection. I can only assume that something else has the DB r the table open, but Ihave no idea where.

I really like this forum as I can usually find the answer to all my questions by searching, but I haven't been able to find a way to resolve this problem. This is my setup. We have 2 local servers. One running WinNT that handles all our internal databases in dbf formats. The other server is WinServer 2k3 and it handles all webstuff. The Win2k3 Server logs onto the WinNT Server and can see and open all the files. If I copy a file from the NT Server to the 2k3 server, I can utilize the database using the connect string:
DBConnect.Open "Driver={Microsoft dBASE Driver (*.dbf)};DriverID=277;Dbq=;"
but, I cannot connect to it directly on the other server. I believe it is a permissions issue, but if I change the Annonomus Access user to one that can access the other server, it asks for a password. I have even tried a virtual server but cannot find a connection string that will allow me to access it.

I copied it to my dev PC and setup site in Dreamweaver. I have a local site, a testing server which points to a different location and I am using IIS5.1 virtual directory for connecting.
Strange thing is, I keep getting error "Provider (0x80004005)" after some usage.
Now it is on the .Open method of an ADO COMMAND. It looks like everytime I try a second .Open I get the error. for example the first access checks User/Pass and returns info.
2nd access tries to open list of all users for admin.
The database is not being locked for exclusive anywhere I can see.
The directory/database security is all setup for the IUSR account (and first connections work anyway) I would hazard it is a locking issue but not sure why.
As I said this site is suppose to be functional, loading in DWMX2004 and using a test server on my local machine however causes a problem.
