I've a strange problem with Windows Vista, running an ASP page on local
machine (http://localhost/test.asp), the page does not give me any error but
the asp code is not executed (simple code : <% response.write("hello") %),
it show me a blank page, I think I've put all the setttings correctly, but
maybe I must do something obvious to fix that.
I've been doing all my ASP projects etc in my Uni whcih I can access from home but cannot FTP etc. Which mean I cannot edit files and play around with code.
Is it possible to run the asp on my home ASP so I can practise here rather than travel to uni each time!
Im running vista ultimate from home
I've just installed IIS 7 and have run the script to do the complete install.
When I run my HTML file that points to my asp file it just downloads the .asp file instead of running it. Any ideas as to what im doing wrong??
When I run http://localhost/SSNName.html it works fine, just seems to not run the asp file
I get the following error: An error occurred on the server when processing the URL.
I have 2 webs under my default web running win2003
1. A front-page intranet 2. A asp (not .net) web is fine
Both allow anonomous access. My front page web always gets a BLANK Request.ServerVariables("Logon_User"). The asp web gets the logon_user OK. Both webs have a global.asa that has Code:
I am having difficulty with an edit page with a form to edit/delete records in a database in ASP. User clicks a button that corresponds to the record to be edited/deleted. I have managed to eliminate error messages, but the Edit page comes up blank. I think there might be something wrong in the "rs.Open" statement. Code:
I created a feedback form for my website that has only 2 required fields. When you submit the form it calls my asp page which puts the information in a database and then sends me n email with the information that was entered into the form. The problem is that the form only has two required fileds, and if the remaining non required fields are left empty when the asp page is called it does write to the data base, but does not send me any email. However if I go back in and put somethng in every field in the form then when I submit the form and my asp page is called it writes to the data base and sends me an email with the all the information I entered in the feedback form. Is there a way to tell my asp page that it is ok to send the email even if the non required fields are left empty? I really do not want to have to go back through the form and put default values in for each area of the form? Also is there a way to have an error displayed if the email is not sent? My asp code is below....
What is required to run asp.net page with extension .aspx file,on win 2000 server with IIS ,it is not working, what upgrade is required ,I am using IE6 also.
I am design an web application that requires information mation to be created from tables once a day, once this information has been created it is stored temporarily in another table until the folowing day. The problem is that to creat this information a seperate .asp page has to run.
I would like this page to run early in the morning when no one is in the building and accessing the servers. I have tried using windows scheduler... this works but still needs a user to press ok on the internet security password screen we have set up. Is there any other way to get the page to run without using the browser, or to change the page into a dfferent format??
I have an asp page that will be updating the data from one database into my sql server database every 3 hours. I'd like to write code that will tell the page to automatically run every three hours. How do I do this?
if it's possible to run an .exe or other command line utility form an .asp page? What I am trying to do is have a report request page where the user would supply a few details, and then submit. At this point I am hoping to pass the data to an .exe. This .exe will write its output to a text file which will be read and displayed on the page. Is this easily accomplished?
if it was possible to put a function in the global.asa that would call/run a page every x minutes. I have an ASP page that writes a text file and I want that file to be updated/rewritten in the background every 30 minutes so that pages that call the file are current. I have requirements as to why it can't just be a dynamic page and needs to be a text/htm file.
I have this situation where I have one shared folder on particular server and this folder is shared for just one user to access it. I wrote an asp page wich should open a file from that shared folder. However because the folder is shared for just one user I have somehow to run the asp page as this user.
The same way like in ASP.NET application where I can use impersonation in web.config file. Is this possible?
Can you run an client application (i.e. Excel) from an ASP web page? I want to open an Excel document that is stored on the network in the Excel App (not in browser window) allow the user to make changes to the file and then save the file back to the network. If this is possible how do I do it?
This is the error which i got when i tried to display message in my text box which is a aspx page.
Error which i got:Server Error in '/' Application. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Runtime Error :
Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for security reasons). It could, however, be viewed by browsers running on the local server machine.
Details: To enable the details of this specific error message to be viewable on remote machines, please create a <customErrors> tag within a "web.config" configuration file located in the root directory of the current web application. This <customErrors> tag should then have its "mode" attribute set to "Off".
i was trying to run bat file from asp page and getting: Access Denied
but when i run the bat file from the command prompt on the local server, it's running good the bat file copying files from target computer in the LAN to the local computer, o.k
i give write and execute permission on the IIS for this site on the local folder(where the bat file) i assign full NTFS access for "test" user on the target computer i shared the folder with Everyone Full control and assign Full NTFS access for the "test" user but still cannot run the .bat file
where it can be the problem, how i need to set the site on the IIS to run the bat file?
I work for a security system company. I'm in the installation department. One of the things we do is go to our monitoring service's website and check the signals to see if we got all of the signals for a particular alarm system.
Unfortunately, that means refreshing the page alot.
So, I started off using an iframe page to refresh the content i wanted. the only problem was that the urls i used to login and set the customer ID would go to another page.
So I tried to create a frameset document. However, the .asp pages completely ignored the frameset information. Code:
This correctly ran the script, but it was unable to include the QUERY_STRING from the parent URL into the included perl script, and there seems no work around to enable me to do that on IIS 6.0, therefore on this thread:
I was recommended: "to a simple ASP page which will easily do exactly what you want because it actually has the functionality you want, by intention, and is supported." Code:
I have FrontPage 2003 on my XP laptop. I need to test some web pages with *.asp codes which worked perfectly well with my old Win95 computer in the past. Of course I had to install Personal Web Server to it in order to do the job.
The help files of FP, gives the clue that it has the facilities to behave like a server and test interactive web pages. But I haven't seen the use of ASP pages with it. I do not wish to install a server on my XP just to test ASP pages.
My website is currently made up of HTML pages and residing on a Windows server.
Currently converting them all to ASP, that is going from .html extensions to .asp (besides adding funking asp functions)
My pages have all being indexed by Google, so wouldn't risk loosing good ranking with Javascript redirects, so I tought using this would solve the issue, for example, on a file named thatpage.html
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" runat="server"> Response.Status="301 Moved Permanently" Response.AddHeader "Location", "http://www.mywebsite.com/thatpage.asp"
</SCRIPT> Wherever where I insert it, in the head, in the body, before the DOC, it's not working, will have to resort to javascript? Will I have to put a link in the html page leading to the asp page? Wouldn't like to have user click agin to be led to the .asp version?
The ASP application uses the "File" active-x control. On windows 2003 IIS(6.0), the download the file fails with the Error: Request object error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'
The above error is retuned by my asp code: lnBytes = Request.BinaryRead(lnByteCount)
I did not see this error on windows 2000 server. Is there any solution/workaround available on Windows 2003 IIS(6.0) for this issue.
To provide enriched GUI in .NET Windows Forms can replace ASP.NET Web Forms in a Web Application.
To host/activate a Windows Forms control within Internet Explorer (IE):
1. Create a Windows Forms control 2. Create an HTML document with an object tag that identifies the Windows Forms control 3. Configure the virtual directory for proper activation of the control 4. Configure Code Access Permissions 5. Run the control
.NET Redistributable should be present in the client to run this control in IE.
What will be the performance of a page designed in this manner?
An ASP.NET page (using Web Forms) provides a performance of around 3 seconds over a decent internet link. Will the same be achievable using Windows Forms?
No doubt, Windows Forms provide the best performance for Desktop Applications, but what about in a Web Application as explained above?
This approach is similar to Java Applets. And Applets have failed over the web in time critical applications.
I surfed quited a few .NET related sites (MSDN, gotdotnet etc.) for typical numbers on performance for this kind of page design, but in vain.
I'm using formmail.asp which is an emailing utility. Basically, the user fills out a request page, clicks "Submit" and the page posts to formmail.asp which emails the user information.
I'm running IIS5 on a Win2k server box and recently ran the Windows Updates (the last time I do that). Anyway, that emailing form doesn't work now on any of the sites I host. Any ideas?
im trying to run a bat file on windows server 2003 and am running into nothing but problems.
i have IIS on my XP workstation that accesses the 2003 server. what im about to explain below works properly on the XP IIs.
i have two files: somefile.asp and somefile.bat. the asp file creates a wscript.shell and then tries to execute the run method for somefile.bat.
however, it isnt working. after an unexaggerated 7 hours of searching google/etc, i have found nothing but frustration and deep, seething anger regarding this problem. Code:
I created a web page from Excel2000, using "Save as web page..."...Publish function. then, I moved htm file to my IIS web server. Then I added a form control, and submit button.
How can get the data on the excel file using ASP from server side? For example, the value of Cell(1,2), Cell(2,3)....
What I want to be able to do is create a user control that will display an entire page page within it. Does anyone know how to do this or better yet have any same code?
I like to know how to write this specifc function on ASP where the user eg: display a set of records on the webpage. Example the data are ID, Name and address.
Lets say i display the data on the webpage and i set the Name as the <a href>. So when i click on the name, it will move to another page with the id of the specific name. Code:
I have an ActiveX control in my ASP page that has not been signed yet, so currently just for testing I set the Security for Intranet to "Low". When I run the ASP page on my machine (the IIS is in my machine), I have no problem, except the page prompted me with "An ActiveX control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts of the page. Do you want to allow this interaction?"
But, when I run the ASP page on another machine (even though the other machine is also a development machine that already has the ActiveX control and I set the Security for Intranet to "Low"), it did not prompt me the above message, and I got an error when accesing any method of the AX control (e.g Object doesn't support this property or method 'myAXControl.method').
Is this because I have to create a CAB file and mark the AX control as safe for scripting ?To create a CAB file for this AX control, do I need to create my own VB AX Control project that contains this control and then create a cab file for this VB project ?
This is a standard ASP application that has several pages at the root withthe global.asa. I set a session variable session("accountid") = "123456" within an asp page and then response.redirect to the next page and immediately response.write session("accountid") and I get back nothing.
But if I set a session variable session("accountid") = "123456" within an asp page and response.redirect to a page in a sub directory and immediately response.write session("accountid") I get back 123456 on the screen.
