Is there a way that I can display certain text within an asp file dependant on the url? This is what I am trying to do:
In default.asp, if the url is default.asp?VariableHere, then the body of default.asp contains an include calling "VariableHere.inc" (replace VariableHere with the name of the include)
I've only recently begun using asp so i'm not that good, but my problem is this: The navigation for my site is within an include file. However I have an inlcude navigation file for each section but the only thing that changes from file to file is the name of the section you are in, this seems a bit un-necessary.I.e contact, home, about us etc. Is there a way I can use asp to write the name of the section and so only need one navigation include file?
I want to include some asp if statements inside a do until loop, predicated on the recordset going until EOF. I do not have any < % %> delimiters inside the include file. The below doesnt show the character I want to display:
<% do until rs.eof response.write rs("position") <!-- #include file="inc_.asp" --> loop %>
while hard coding the character with another response.write statement will.
I got a form with many text boxes, checkboxes and 3 drop downs. From that 3, 2 are dependant. I can choose one drop down, and the next drop down should display the dependant values of the first drop down chosed. And I have a submite button to submit all these values to DB.
First problem: I cant keep the value of the selected text in the first drop down. It always goes back to the first value. (but the asp site extension changes accordingly).
Second problem: when the value of second drop down is updated, then the text I inserted in those text boxes, and the checkboxes i checked disappears!
I know its because the site is submitted again to update the second drop down. But how could I keep the values of other elements even though the drop down is updated?
you must have heard this a 100 times.. but how do i fill a dropdown box dynamically based on the value selected in another dropdown box from a database?
I am developing a webapplication for a company holding stocks for a number of customer companies. The customers can order parts via this new appliction. My application is linked to each of the customers' home pages.
I want each user to 'believe' he still is in his company's pages by changing logo and i.e. backcolor depending on company. A person from company A will see his company's logo and colors and a person from company B will simultanously see his company's logo and colors. Can I achieve this with css. In that case How? Or is there another better method.
I need to populate a list box with values that will be determined by the selection of another list. What it is, is when we add a user, they get added to a city, eg Townsville and then there are a heap of groups that only apply to Townsville people.
So once I select Townsville as the location, I want to perform a search in AD and return the list of groups in the Townsville OU.
I am not exactly sure of the appropriate method to handle this in asp. If necessary, I could make a third page and just pass values to that from the second page. Is there a better way?
In case you are wondering, there are currently two pages. One is for use by supervisors/managers, and they fill out some details which get put into a URL that is emailed to the administrators.
Clicking on the link fills out the base form for the admin people, but I want them to have more access and to see more than the managers/supervisors that are submitting the request.
How do I make a dependant drop box? For example, when a user selects Item5 on the first drop menu the second one populates with the options for Item5? I know it will probably use Java of some sort but I do not know the code.
whether anyone had any knowledge of the use of dependant drop downs? For example i would like to choose a product based on the type i.e computer hardware, monitor etc then a list of all products of the same type be displayed in a following dropdown.
Any examples of similar things done, urls to try, your own experience? How simple is it to implement?
I am having trouble with the ordering page. I would like a dynamic form list to look at a database and when the user selects a product code, the text boxes containing description and price change too to reflect the product code.
The user will be entering in their contact details, so I dont want the page to reload too because I will lose that info. Code:
I want to be to call my menu from another file onto my page so that i dont have to add it to every page of my website. The problem is when i try to add it using the include method it says that only one include file is allowed on an ASP. The other include file is my connection string so i cant really take that out of the page because then nothing else will work!
How can i get the menu page included as well as the connecting string?
Have added the code below, i have highlighted the 2 include files that i want to use in blue, i have also left the div tag in for where i currently have the menu which is what i want to take out and have ther include file there instead, if that makes sense. Basically the bit in red i want to be able to remove from all of my pages and add the blue file above the red code in instead, but i dont know how!!!!! Code:
I need to assign a value to a variable, but this variable name is dependant upon another variable!! I am including the code below so you can see it, cos if not I am sure you are thinking whattt?? Code:
I am running a project in which i use a web application writen in ASP to create some quizes, then i would like to call a compilor (dll) to compile the data i created and change it to .mms file in order to be able to send it to mobile device.
Can you please guide me on how to call the dll file from my ASP application?
I have created an Active Server Component (ASC) as a bridge between ASP and my existing C++ DLLs that we use in our PC-based program. Our intent is to re-use as much code as possible.
when I call the ASC from ASP, and then call the DLL, the security profile that is specified in IIS is no longer associated with the process, and therefore, any "network-related" calls fail due to insufficient privileges.
I don't know if there is "another" way to call the DLL from the ASC or not, or any way tospecifically load a DLL with a certain security profile.
i am calling an exe from asp program. Its not working fine. When i execute the exe through the dos program directly i get the desired result. My exe will convert files in the folder to encrypted files.
But when i call it thru asp program its not working fine. I have tried the following method.
a) Calling the exe through shell program. b) Calling the exe through ASPEXEC. c) Calling the exe through the Batch Files.
i've got two pages. they have the same name for two sub procedures that do pretty much the same thing and have the same number and types of arguments. i either run one page, the other page or both. when i run page1 it somehow is accessing page2 even if it isn't called with an include statement.
page 1 is using the sub with the same name from another page even if it isn't included. so what's going on? is that normal? should i just make one page instead of 2? didn't think that sub's could jump accross pages that weren't included, but i could be wrong.
Where's the best place for me to include all my functions that I want to call throughout different pages? Should I just put them all in one ASP file and include that page on every page? Or use global.asa somehow (how??)?
Anyways, I was just wondering because I didn't want to slow things down if I could help it (I didn't know if having another big file attached to every page when I'm just using a small portion of it was very effective or not)
I want to create tables in my database programatically. I know i can do it using adodb connection object. I have too many tables, views and stored procedures. If I have to write a code, I will have to write 1000 lines of code. I dont think, thats the best way to do it.
I already have a sql script for these tables, views and stored procedures. I want to know if i can execute that sql script directly from ASP.
I will explain the background, to give a better understanding of my situation. We have a website, which uses the existing database to generate reports. If we want to host that website (as a service) to third parties, we create a new database for every customer, create all the necessary tables, views and stored procedures in the new database. I want to make all the table creation programmatic. Is it possible?
I'm working on a project and the designer guy uses templates for everything. THis is fine except I have to call a JScript function when the page loads and I have no access to the body tag. Is there a way to call the function as the page loads from a VBScript command?
I have the following problem. I want to call a JavaScript Function from ASP I am reading back values from a db and based on those values I want to check a checkbox. If the value in the db field in yes then I want to check the checkbox but if it's no I want to leave the checkbox unchecked. My alert box is displaying but Im getting an error at the line document.getElementById("chkStatus").checked = "true";

I have a database and I use asp to load it into a html table. The first cell of each row contains a button. What I want is that when a user clicks the button it calls a serverside sub that inserts additional rows from an other table of my database. Problem is that I don't now how to call a sub from the onclick event of the button. And I don't know if it's possible to insert rows in a html table. Does anybody know how I should do this?
I have an Empty Function on one of my pages, so when the user clicks(submits) on the empty button in the form, the shopping cart empties. This is on basket.asp. Code:
If (CStr(Request.Form("Submit")) = "Empty") Then emptybasket end if
Above is the code that empties the basket on basket.asp. Below is the Submit button code.
We have an asp page on a webserver supporting asp pages. How can we run/call a function on this page using an onclick or other event from a control. For example, when an image is clicked or a combobox is changed. We know how to run a javascript, but would be nice to run an asp function.
I have an application using asp and javascript. The javascript collects data and then needs to pass it to asp to store in the database. The way the original application was developed, all the data gets captured into a javascript array of records (similar to a recordset) and then each record in the array needs to go to the database. Currently I loop through the js array and open an asp window that writes to the DB then closes. This works but I get a flicker affect as this happens for each record. I'm looking for a better way to handle this - either to be able to send my entire js array of objects to ASP (don't know how to do this) or a way to invoke the asp code without opening then closing a new window everytime.YI - I recently posted a thread called "asp & javascript" that had some code snippets of what I'm currently doing.
On the last line here i'm trying to some how get it to call the last ID keyfield entry...
ImageID = Request("ID") If (Len(ImageID) = 0) then ImageID = "1" If Not IsNumeric(ImageID) Then ImageID = "1" If ImageID = "0" then ImageID = "1" If ImageID>3 then ImageID = max(Len(ImageID))
