Content Rotator Limits

I was wanting to use the content rotator component to randomly change news articles that i've placed at the bottom of my site's pages.

<%
dim cr
Set cr=Server.CreateObject("MSWC.ContentRotator")
response.write(cr.ChooseContent("buyart.txt"))
set cr=nothing
%>

Is there a limit to how much content you can include in one html string?

I tried the following and it was fine: Code:

Banner Rotator

I am tearing my hair out. i am trying to serve normal banners to an asp file originated from an access database.

i wasn't able to use the normal javascript rotator as the array comes from the DB.

i can't use the normal IIS Ad.rotator module as it loads a new banner only when the page is reloaded therefore has anyone any ideas of what i can dO ie: dynamically served banners rotated on a single page every 10 seconds without refreshing the page.

Using The Banner Rotator With A Timer

I'm currently using the MS Banner Rotator component that comes default with IIS, but all the tutorials i find are nly concentrating on rotating the banners per "refresh" of the page using a text file with a weighted percentage of what pic gets shown.

I would like to be able to set it so that a banner is shown every 10 seconds or so and is clickable etc...

Is this a pain or should i just bung them all in a flash movie or something?

IE And Post Limits

I'm at the end of developing an application. There's one form that the user can dynamically administer (add fields and remove them), and that form has at least 40 fields, plus the others that the user will add him/her self.

I let them test it and there is about 100 fields in this one form (with all my hidden fields for state maintanance and such, I use about 10 for various things).

My problem is that I cannot send the data to the server in IE (the most commonly used browser), but I can fine in FIREFOX. It'd be nice if everyone used FIREFOX, but no one who will use this application does.

I did a little research and I guess IE tops out at the CONTENT_LENGTH at 2083. I figured that was for passing name/value pairs via GET. My appp is sending 2796+. Sometimes over 3000, but even if I send it via POST IE won't send the request.

I'm testing with faux form with up wards of 3000 form elements and those don't seem to have any problem submitting. What could I be doing wrong?

Upload Limits

We run a service for children who are off school for medical reasons, and we had a web-site that allows them to "submit" their work to teachers for marking. The site uses ASP code to upload the files into student folders and the staff retrieve it.

It all works perfectly for smaller files, but if a student attempts to upload a file larger than 1Mb they get "Request object error 'ASP 0104 :80004005' ".This appears to be due to a limit on the size of uploaded files (or the request objects that contain them), with a solution as described on thissite (amongst others):

http://www.dmxzone.com/ShowDetail.asp?NewsId=5424

As our site is hosted by a commercial hosting company, and we can't configure IIS,I was wondering whether there was a way to up the limit through code, like you can change the time-out period using Server.ScriptTimeOut?

Limits Of Access Database

one of my websites has been gaining a lot more traffic lately, its 350 unique visitors a day and rising about 90% a month. I would like to know how long I can keep using an access database using Jet dsn less connection.

the site has main product database as well as a news and article database etc. I would prefer to keep running on the current setup for as long as possible. Does anyone know the limits? My next upgrade will be either SQL Server or MySQL.

HOW To Find Out Performance & Limits?

I had to make a webpage by "modifying" from other www resources script for an intranet calendar page which contain clickable data for different dates from an Access file.

Adaptation successful (after lots of trial+errors) ... but the loading SPEED is over 7 seconds. IIS 5.0. for IE6.0.

How to find out the limits of the asp page?
--- how to find out how many simultaneous hits can it sustains?
--- how to speed it up?

I have read the MS 25+ tips to improve performance & style article but I cannot do much from there and it is not easy to add the response dot flush as the table of the calendar is generated from loops within loops within loops (many if then else).

How To Get Content Of A File ?

i am building some web page with template engine and i run on one problem: i want to import a content of some file and then use it in asp script so the solutions are this:

1: Create file system object and use ReadAll to read the content but there is a problem because it dosent render the importet file i get just the asp code

2: Create XML object and load the file into the xml but here is another problem this proccess takes quite a lot of time so it will be very slow for the web site especially that i want to import more the one file...

3: Create file system object and user ReadAll to read the content and then use eval(reasponseString) to execute this code... but i dont belive to much in this solution i dont know why but it seems to me it's not right.....

Content Negotiation

I've been looking at content negotiation for serving up pages as xhtml/xml or text/html based on the user's browser and using PHP you use this:
PHP Code:

function fix_code($buffer) {

}

ob_start("fix_code");

to remove all the / end of tags in your text/html code. Is there an ASP equivalent to this?

Pull Content

I'm writing a site scraper (bot, etc.) that needs to log into a site (i have the username and password), then redirect to a particular page and then pull that content into a variable so I can manipulate it.
I'm using ASPHttp to try to pull this off. However, I CANNOT get by the login. According to ASPHttp this should be possible, but I cannot make it happen. I would not imagine this would be too hard to do. Perhaps ASPHttp is not the right tool.

Static Content

I'm using the Server.Execute method to include a static page inside a
dynamic database call. This static page is not a valid HTML page (i.e.
lacking <body>,<head>, etc. elements), but I'm pulling it into the dynamic
page just to give the content an upgrade in presentation, including images.
The problem is that there is no way to have relative URLs in the content
page, so all the image src's are wrong. Is there a better way to include
static content like this, or a way to alter the contents on the static page
prior to running Server.Execute (I could parse the file via the
FileSystemObject, but I'm hoping not to do that)?
