We have an issue where we need to control access to specific web pages e.g. if one user is editing a purchase requisition another user shouldn't be able to perform any actions on it.
I presume we could lock the purchase requisition for editing by a specific user when an edit button is pressed. Only that user would then be able to edit the document. However can anyone think of any better approaches to this issue which I presume must be quite common in other application domains.
i am trying to run iis6.0 a site that offers some web services such as catalog searching for products through our site. ofcourse, we are using asp.net. i was wondering if the source code looks different if it handles 10 ppl as opposed to 150,000. u see, i am not sure if source code that can handle 10 ppl will survive lots of users.
i think as far as hardware resources are enough, the software really doesn't matter since servicing 10 ppl is done as concurrently as 150,000. but i am not sure if the software should change/how.
as far as security, how do i make sure that iis 6.0 is correctly configured? are there certain dangers/limitaitons when using asp as oppossed to other open source alternatives such as php?
I'm writing a CMS for my new web site and there will be around 4 users using it to update the site but I don't what all the user to accessing all of the pages. I want to be able to set which pages the can access.
So far there are 15 pages and growing to the CMS, I have made a login script and which user has there own account.
Now I was thinking I could add each file name (eg. page.asp) to a field in the database and when the page loads it checks to see of the filename is in that field of allowed pages. But a database field can only hold 255 Characters and my page file names are around 15-20 characters long so by the time I add more pages to the CMS it is going to exceed 255 characters.
Anyway I hope you have a understanding on what I want to do, so does anyone have any ideas on the subject
I'm doing a web page with Admin rights to a MS Access database. So far when the admin logs in they are directed to the admin page. However if someone knows the name of the admin page they can still type it into the address bar and it will pop up with no restriction. Any ideas how to restrict this access to administrators only?
We were using asp pages to mine data from our ms access dbs. Now have upgraded to 2003 ms access. I tried the data access pages and am able to of course query data on the website from the db elsewhere.
Do you HAVE to have ms access on the machine to access the data this way? We tried of course and got "data provider could not be initilized". Is there a way around that?
A freshly installed IIS on my Windows XP SP2 does not allow anonymous acces to the default ASP file (localstart.asp). I just used default configuration for installation, which enables anonymous access. But when I load http://localhost I just get a login box. A simple index.html placed manually for debugging purpose loads without login prompt.
I am testing the same thing on a Windows XP (w/o SP2). ASP works for anonymous access like a charm.
since we run BIND as our DNS, I'd like to be able to force it reload changed zone files via an ASP page. I don't need to restart the service itself. There is a specific command that can be sent to it that'll reload the zones without restarting the service, but I don't know how to execute it.
i'd like to be able to create and manage IIS websites from an ASP page. Is there any documentation on this? It must be possible, but I can't find out how.
i am currently working on an online test tool using ASP. Now, the questions would be generated randomly from a database(access), so two or more candidates will not have the same question. There will be one question per page. Now, i have successfully generated the radom questions from the database.
But i have a problem which is:
1. When i click the next link to go the next question, my code displays the question on the previous.
2. Also, when i click on the previous link to go back to the previous question my code changes the question from the previously answered to a new question. Code:

how to control frame busting. My application has a frame where i open the site user has select to view. Frame busting is, preventing that your page is caught in someone else's frameset.
So when user select yahoo.com or else which has frame busting technology impemented it will occupy my aaplication's window by setting "top.location=self.location" But i wanna know if the current page is going to occupy my window then open that site using window.open(URL) instead opening it in userFrame. Awaiting for the fastest responnse.
I have a problem letting this small script I wrote work correctly. In particular i can't manage to execute commands that require user input/confirmation. How should i handle that? Code:
I have a simple collapsible table that displays when a Label is clicked. However, since the label is only plaintext, the mouse becomes an insertion icon (I-bar) when over the text. Because of this, a user might not understand that the label is clickable. Is there a way to control the mouse appearance so that it shows the standard pointing finger, WITHOUT creating an anchor? Due to other elements in the page, it cannot link back to itself without erroring out.
Using IIS 5.0 and sometime some asp pages (absolutely randomly) showing as blank white pages. So far only one way of fixing it - restart whole server. Restarting IIS, or specific web server not helping, only whole server.
I enable server side and client side debugging, but no errors showing up...
In view source pages always look like this: ----------------------- <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN"> <HTML><HEAD> <META http-equiv=Content-Type content="text/html; charset=windows-1251"></HEAD> <BODY></BODY></HTML> -----------------------
I have this problem in controlling a text in a Text Area. How can I do that, for example the field size is 200, when it reaches 50 it automatically goes to the next line. Because im having problem when viewing text in my report, it continuesly views in a straight line. Can you give me ASP code for that.

I have a Development server that is running Win2k, IIS 5.0, and ASP enabled. I am trying to gain access to an Access 2000 DB located on a file server within my domain. I'm pretty sure I have all the correct permissions set, but I am having problems when trying to access the DB.
The error is similar to:
The Microsoft Jet Database engine cannot open the file '******'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data.
I'm looking for ways to fix this... Microsoft suggests turning off the ability for IIS to sync passwords. Unfortunately, this is not a viable solution for me.
Is it possible to create a new virtual server that is a share to my file server? Put my ASP and MDB file in there and have it work? Anyone have any other ideas?
I'm working on a site that inserts records into an Access database and Access assigns an auto-incrementing id for the record. How can I quickly figure out what id that was just created? I seem to remember there being a function for this....
I want to move my only window shosted client to linux. The site they have access a Microsoft Access database with the below code but i can't get it to work under Linux.
I'm trying to access a table in a MS Access database using ASP but the name of the table is causing me some trouble. The problem is the table name has a space in it eg, "My Table".
If i try and access it using a query "SELECT * FROM My News", it says i cant find table "My". If i remove the space from the name (to MyTable) it works fine. But the trouble is its a customers database and i cant easily rename it because its linked to other tables and db's.
How can i access a table with a space in its name? I've tried "SELECT * FROM My_News" but that doesnt work either.
I have an ASP page needs to access a remote MS Access2000 database, I got error "The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file 'F:Collect.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. ".
The 'F:' is a mapped drive from remote machine where the access database loactes. If I copy the database back to local box, no problem.
I'm looking to make an online multiplayer game which will utilize Access Database... basically I require thousands of people writing and reading from the same database... I was wondering if this is possible for that... or is mdb file restricted to 1 person at a time...
If it is limited what would you suggest as the best way to control an interactive online environment? .txt files possibly?
What is this all about? Generally I run against SQL Server but now I have to use access. The query I want to run is a simple double join
SELECT tblArtists.*,tblGenres.name AS genreName, tblPages.pageId FROM (tblArtists INNER JOIN tblGenres ON tblArtists.genreId = tblGenres.genreId) LEFT JOIN tblPages ON tblArtists.artistId = tblPages.artistId ORDER BY surName ASC, firstName ASC
Now If I run this question in access against the database it accurateley returns two posts. BUT When I paste the same query into an asp document and runs it with a fileDSN against the same database it returns nothing!? Is this some kind of joke from Microsoft?
I have an Access DB which contains couple of link tables. All these tables are from different databases. So each one has it's own database password. Since there is no way to save the password during the DSN creation. Then you need to manually type in the password each first time when open the table.
This causes the problem in ASP code during run a query. Since the table cannot be accessed due to the password protection. Is there any statement than can open a table and meanwhile pass the password in? Does anyone experienced with the similar situation?
We run a website with pages that are created using ASP. The website is used by different people from different networks. For some people, the pages are stuck. It looks like the were able to open the page, but it is not displayed on their browser. We think that it might be something to do with their proxy. Does anybody know how to solve this problem?
I had a 404 page set up in IIS 5.0 that would the the URL of the requested page from the query string. i recently upgraded to IIS 6.0 but it doesn't seem to put the requested URL in the query string as it did in IIS 5.0 and 3.0. Does anyone know how i can get the requested url property in IIS 6?
I have a bout 5 different pages of which each will contain a form requiring users to complete. These forms are all related as one project. It is necessary that if the user was to only complete the first form they could theoretically quit, come back later (time not dependant) and complete the remaining pages. Therefore I think the best way to do this is to write the values to the database upon each click of the next button. The only other issue with this is that the user will also be receiving a pdf file at the end of the full form submission with all their information inserted into this pdf and finalized. Now. I am aware of pdflib in which I need php but my choice was to do this in asp. What are my options here? Should I combine them, should I draw all the info from the db at the very end with php and then create the pdf, should I use sessions during the entire process
When asp.net pages are made in vs.net, loading on the local host displays the labels all in the top left corner of the screen. Also, all textboxes and image buttons are not even displayed at all. If pages are made on a remote server, they load perfetly fine, it is just the local host displaying them incorrectly. Is this a common problem?? I have iis 5.0 installed with windows 2000. i use the full version of vs.net to make asp.net pages.
I have a web site I've recently moved to a new provider. It has worked for years. On the new provider's servers ( Win2k Server .NET 1.1 ) my asp 3.0 pages often don't completely execute. Here is what happens: Most of the page starts displaying in the browser, then you see some HTML, then nothing. If you refresh a few times, the page finally completely loads. There is never an error reported during any of this.
