Creating DB Field With Code
anyone know of a way to create a new field in an existing table with code/sql script? needs to run from an asp script.
i know how to create new tables, not sure how to create fields...
i don't have direct access to the db, due to firewall/hosting weirdness.

I'm trying to give my clients a bit of extra controll over their application by allowing them to modify parts of my ASP program using a code template. For example, on the landing page, the program displays a list of all current tasks in the user's ToDo list, but different clients may want to handle specific items in that list in different ways: e.g.
Client 1 wants to highlight the oldest items in a different color. Client 2 may want to Alert. Client 3 wants to kick off a message through Email. Client 4 wants to force the user to attend to any messages older than 4 days.
Rather than create a completely custom page for each client, I want to keep the original page exactly as is, but allow each client to configure additional code that will be inserted into the page on load.
One way of doing this is to use Include pages, but I can't use this in this case because there may be several clients hosted on the same server, plus the clients would need FTP access to upload their own include files.
I could also handle most situations in JavaScript, such that the ASP file just writes out the Script block as its loading, but there are some things that are only possible in ASP.
I would prefer to handle this through a database entry which the client can make in their profile page, and then smack the code from the database into the ASP file as it's being requested.

I am using an Access database, and for a field called size the client entered some values such as 20" x 20" Unfortunately when I try to print that field to the page, the cursor stops typing at 20 because I'm assuming it considers the first " inside the 20" x 20" to be the end of the string.
I am simply trying to print the whole string <%=(rsProdsUpdate("size1"))%>
Is there a workaround this without having to change all the values in the database?

I am using a Relational database for my site and i have the following tables:
FIXTURES, GAMEDATES
the fields in FIXTURES are:
GameDate
Home
Away
(All of the above are numerical fields)
the fields in GAMEDATES are:
DateID(integer)
GameDate(#Date Field#)
What i have done is in the GAMEDATE field in the FIXTURES table i have used the ID number of the date that i wish to assign to that record - using a LEFT JOIN to display the actual date that is pulled from the GAMEDATES table (That which corresponds to the relevant id used in Fixtures)
The problem is that in some of my code i want to display records using sql and sometimes in the where clause i use the following:
WHERE Fixtures.GameDate<=(Date())
obviously meaning WHERE GAMEDATE is LESS THAN or EQUAL to TODAY.
The thing is when i use the join it does not use the where clause and displays all of the records in the FIXTURES table.
Does any one know how to get around this, i have not received any error messages it just isnt displaying the right data

Im comparing values in a field while doing a loop if sAct<>myData(5,i) then At the end of the loop I make the value of sAct equal the current myData
This will work when comparing other fields withing my recordset (so I know the statement works) but it will not work for the field I want to compare. The only difference with this field is that it has null values. Could this be the problem? if so, how do I deal with nulls?

I'm looking for sample code that will require a use to enter a code from a scued image format.
I'm sure you've seen them before where the image is barely readable by a human and the user has to enter the code correctly to submit the form.
I'm looking for ASP code and NOT ASP.NET code as I am supporting a legacy site.

I have a input form with 5 fields. One of the fields is MajorNo and the other is named Description.
I have a reference table in my MS Access database (tblMajor)that lists the major numbers and their descriptions.
I would like to have the description field in my ASP automatically filled based on the major number entered on the form, so the user will only need to input the major number when submitting to the Access table (tblSalesTotal).

I am trying to pass a hidden field value on a form into another field on the

(The hidden value (1 for example) would then automatically get passed to the
other input field.)
The code for the text field that allows users to type an number into it for
submission to the db is below, but what code do i need within the hidden
field to populate this text field below so that users do not have to type the

I know how to use ASP to create and write into a .CSV file on the server, but I have a small problem. Every time I write to the file I am adding new lines each time. I don't know how to wipe the previous contents out, and I thought this is probably a no-brainer for you guys ...
So, I'm looking either to delete the file at the start of the process and start from scratch or
* open the file
* wipe all contents from file
* write to the newly cleaned file

I want to create an order form for prints online... I will have up to 200 prints to be selected. What I am thinking is that I will have an HTML Form that has all the 200 thumbnails with a check box next to them. They select the ones they want and push next. Then I would like it to create a set of options for each one they selected.
That basically says the image name then has a check box for 5x7, 8x10 and a text box for the amount for each... I do I create the page what creates these selections and how to I incorporate that into a mail form going to the next page?... it seems like a simple enough idea. Am wondering how the reality of it will be.

I have a problem. I have a database with 1000 e-mails that i use in my
mailinglist. And when i send them mails it takes kinda long since i attach a
..pdf file each time. so i was wondering if there is a way in asp to create a
task on the webserver using asp to trigger a script that sends the mails.
sure i could use server.scripttimeout but the thing is that i dont want to
wait 30 seconds for the page to finish loading. and if there will be 3000 in
near future i'll have to wait for a very loooooong time.
anyone know how to create a task using asp dynamically?

I'm doing a gallery and I need to make some thumbnails of the images, but yeah...I don't know how, especially since I can't access the server to install stuff. And to be honest I wouldn't know how to install them in the first place (linux server)
Now...the best solution I've come up with so far is to send a string to another webserver that runs on a decent platform and use asp.not to make the thumbnail and then link it from there...would be a pain in the butt though, so if anyone has some good advice then I'm all ears (even if the advice is to give up, tbh)
