I want to have a drop down menu, that when you select an option, loads data from the database into another drop down menu. So that's one part I don't know how to do. There will be a total of three options from the first dropdown, which represent different tables in the same database. So that's the other problem, how to load, depending on the table selected, into the drop down menu.
I am trying to write a function on a navigation page so I can just include the nav page on my other asp pages this way I only need to edit one file when I need to update the navigation system.
The problem I have is that if I try and do this with the response write statement how I can't use " inside the strings i.e
How do I store " inside a variable called say SP so I can do this?
Response Write "<form name="&SP&"form1"&SP>"
I am am guessing there must be a way you can store an asci value into a variable. But what is the command for this and what is the ascii code for "?
Finally is there I way I can write a drop down menu purely in ASP so I can avoid putting the HTML code inside strings?
The reason I have to have it the ASP code is simply I want to call the function that outputs the drop down menu in other pages, if I did not do a function it would not work as it would output the drop down menu at the top of the or whereever the include statement is.
I have a simple data entry form that has text boxes and some drop-down menus per row. My problem is the performance of the page.
I give the user the option of displaying 25, 50 or 100 rows at a time. Each row has 12 text boxes and 4 drop-down menus. The OPTIONS for the drop-down menus are being populated with data from our MS SQL database.
I'm using VIEWS to get the data and place them in recordsets, but how can I increase performance. It's taking way too long for the page to load and if the user clicks submits.. that takes a long time too.
I have an asp form that submits information to a database. On this form, I have a drop down box with about 15 options, each with thier own value. The selection is down a bit in the form, after user fills out certain information.
On the same form, I have a hidden value stated for "assigned_to" field. Most of the options in my drop down menu need an "assigned_to" value=35 and one option needs an "assigned_to" value=40 . How can I do this?
How do I make a dependant drop box? For example, when a user selects Item5 on the first drop menu the second one populates with the options for Item5? I know it will probably use Java of some sort but I do not know the code.
Im putting my website together, and I have made some simple text buttons that are aligned across the top of my page from left to right.Anyway, I have with this navigation a need to have more navigation options, which I hope to gain by having sub-menus appear when you roll over the button.
What I mean is how do I or can someone point me to a tutorial that will allow me to have a dynamic drop down menu generated via asp with data from a access databse that will allow the user to navigate to that sub menu content.
Hope you can help with a small problem I am having. I have a very simple table displayed on a page -
ID Name 1 x 2 y 3 z
and what I am trying to do is this - Roll over the ID number and display a pop up menu (which has more links to run other ASP scripts) and pass the ID number from the original page, though the pop-up menu and into the final ASP script (as selected on the popup menu) as a parameter for an SQL query.
I am trying to figure out how to pass one selectedIndex value to another select menu on a subsequent page without opening the page in a new window. I know how to pass information from one text field to another using Request.form or a Session, but I am not certain how this works with select menus. I have seen other examples that require you to open a new window, but again I would prefer not to do this.
I have two different select menus. This appears on the first asp page.
The next page has the exact same select menus as above and I would like it to populate the same value the user chooses from the first form page. I should state that the first select menu does redirect the user to different pages, however it should not matter because the above options for the select menus are consistent on all the pages the user is redirected to. I'm assuming the answer to my query will consist of utilizing ASP and JavaScript, however if not, I'm still game.
I currently have a page with car manufacturers in a dynamic form menu. Users can select one and click submit to find available cars by that manufacturer. What i now need is a second menu on the page where when a manufacturer is selected, the models associated with that manufacturer display for a user to choose. For example if Ford is selected:
Menu One Menu Two ------------------ ----------------- Ford Focus Fiesta Ka....
Can i do this with ASP to say "if menu one is ford, menu two contains...."? Or is there a much easier way which i am somehow missing?
i'm trying to create a dependent dropdown menu based on two objects, packages and steps (the steps dropdown will be dynamically updated/populated when a package is selected). the site uses ASP and since ASP is server-side, i am using JavaScript to handle the client-side "dynamic" change.
i've found several snippets of code that create the dependent dropdown; however, the two examples i have use arrays which are statically defined. the data that will populate the dropdowns is coming from a SQL database, and that data will be updated/changed fairly often. my question is this: is there any way to generate the arrays using ASP (outside javascript tags) and use them in the javascript?
or is there a way to use javascript to generate the correct arrays and fill them with data from my SQL tables? can i use a recordset ojbect in javascript? i have heard that you may use PHP inside javascript tags, but i'm unsure if that is what i want to do.. especially since i am using ASP as the main language for this site. Code:
I've got a problem with asp.net i am trying to make a menu control. and have searched the web for serveral controls but they don't work correctly.
I am pretty new to asp.net building. What am i looking for. i am looking for code to make a dynamical menu with submenus The menu items are stored in a MS SQL Table and when by loading the page the items will be created. i have made a asp table. i want my menu on the left cell, in the middle cell i want to change my pages to the menu item choosen. Code:
I have two menu form elements that need to refelect a parent child relationship. There are 85 zones and 2200 zone-network combinations.
I want to bind the networkid element to an xml datasource that contains only the networks related to that zone. I have read about something like this before but have never implemented it.
I have four pull-down menus and a GO button. Each menu contribute a parameter to an URL query string (like asp?a=1&b=2&c=3&d=4) where variable a is return from menu1, b returns from menu2 etc.
I created the four menus using Dreamweaver's INSERT JUMP MENU function and I find it difficult to modify its auto-generated javascript code to suit my needs. Does anyone has the complete code to accomplish this?
The code that I have has 2 drop down boxes dd1 (visible) and dd2 (hidden). Based on the option selected in dd1, dd2 should be visible and populate options. I think I can have OnChange script but how could I return the value and put it in the SQL query (see variable in red in thecode)? Code:
I have 3 drop down boxes on an asp page Dynamically populated fron the db, I need the drop bown boxes to be refreshed when you have picked the first eg I select "Midlands" from the Region drop down and only the "Locations" that are in the Midlands are entered into the Locations drop down.....
On one of my client's sites, we set up a subdirectory off the app's root directory that doesn't allow the Anonymous IUSR_ account in. When we (the system admins) follow a link to that directory, it presents the standard NT Challenge login screen. We need to know proper Windows credentials to get in -- and once we do, we have access to higher-order functions (to change the read/write bit on files, to delete files, etc. through the web interface). All that works fine.
I'm want to have a drop down box, for which each item in it have its own URL. I want it to be forwarded to the URL only when the button "go!" is pressed. Here is my code, not working
I created a drop down box, I want to do like when a user select one of the options, it automatically run a query and displays the result. I hope there is a way to do this
In one of my ASP pages, I have a Combo box that gets the information from a sql database, the number of records that is shown in the combo box is too much (around 6000 records), the user has to select from these records (let say the user is looking for "George", by clicking "G" the list goes directly to the first records starting with "G", so far everything is ok, now he/she enters "e" (the second letter of "George"),this time the list goes to the first record starting with "e", which is not the way that I want the user to find his/hers record. I hope that I have explained it correctly, what I need is, after entering the second letter of "George", the list moves to the records starts with "Ge", and by entering the third letter, list moves to those records starting with "Geo" and so on.
ive written a piece of code that selects everything from the "Departments" table in a DB and it works well. It lists everything in a drop down box. i'm not writing a page where users can edit their details.
i can make the text in the DB appear at the top, but it's listed again further down. is there any way to get rid of it? Code:
I have made a page in which i have 2 drop down boxes
in first i have got a choice from which i can select subject area eg ( microsoft, cicso , oracle) and after selecting the particular subject area the page reloads and retrive all the courses related to the particular subject area into the other drop down box, and after that when i select the course in the 2nd drop down box and click go then i got the whole information about that course.
Now what i want is that when i select the subject area in the first drop down box, all the courses should come as they are comming now + the 2nd drop down also have the option of "ALL COURSES " and after i select the "All Courses" option and click GO then i get all the courses and details os that subject area. Code:
I have my code like this the user enters the country in Upper case like this for example SPAIN
getcountry=Trim(Request.form("txtcountry"))
Response.write getcountry
now when i do a response.write it types the country name SPAIN
then i have a drop down which is been filled from the table and the values in it are lower case so i have to select spain which appears lower case in drop down Code:
On my page I have 3 drop downs that are populated with static data. When my user makes a selection in either drop down I want to show my HTML table associated with that drop down selection, also the data in my tables are all static.
For example.
if the user selects CAR - New in dropdown 1 I want to show a list of my new cars if the user selects TRUCK in dropdown 2, I want to hide my CARS and show my TRUCK list if the user selects BOATS - Fiberglass in dropdown 3, I want to hide (if shown) CARS, and TRUCKS and show my boat list.
For now all of the data is static (don't ask) so I need to do all of this on the client. Is there a way to do this either using JavaScript, Div tags, CSS, etc.
I have a drop down box which selects an item. I want to execute an SQL query and display the results depending on which item is selected. I need this to happen as soon as the item is selected, ie without clicking any buttons. How do I go about this?
I have a sql query that I wish to use in a drop down box. For instance a user would pull down a drop down box and select their name from the list... that would set the name equal to a variable. I know how to do an input box. and I know how to do the sql query ... but how do I put the query in the dropdown box?
The query is roughly this, assume that I have the syntax corrrect for the query (the exact syntax is at work atm and it is working without the box) . I have done my connect statements and such also.
I want to select a value (that comes from a query) in a drop down list. I have the drop down list working - but when I click the submit button it goes back to the first value instead of keeping the value that was selected in the field. I want to use this value later to select from another query.
I have a combo box that has all the models. I would like to select more than 1 model. Can it be done? Or can i use list box instead of drop down box to do it?
I have a database with fields like; age, hair colour, height, eye colour and more. I wanted to allow a user (on a webpage) to choose from a selection of these catagories, for example age drop down box displays; under 16, 16-21 etc.
The user then selects the one appropriate and when presses a submit button, this is then stored in the database. I want it to be accessible, so the user can edit it if necessary. I realise im going to have to use values in the drop boxes, but am not sure how to approach it.
