I have a table in which I count the rows, and for each record it finds it uses that number to dynamically name the form field. i.e.
<input type=text name="FirstName<%=i%>">
I got that to work just fine. What I'm trying to do now, is post the form, and on the new page dynamically create cookies based on the number of form fields there are. For example, my desired end result would look something like this..
response.cookies("First0")=request.form("FirstName0")
response.cookies("First1")=request.form("FirstName1")
and so on. Is there a way to do this by looping, instead of hardcoding? I have my feeble attempt below....

I have a form on a page which I need to auto set certain fields from values stored in a Cookie.
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="vbscript">
RegisterForm.Prefix.value = Request.Cookies("store")("id1")
</SCRIPT>
That is how it is in my file yet it just appears empty but I know there is valid data in the cookie as I printed it on screen using:
<%
Response.Write(Request.Cookies("store")("id1"))
%>
So I figured maybe it was something to do with the script tags so I tried using the <% %> tags instead and I got an error saying something like Microsoft VBScript runtime object required.

Is it possible to send form values from PAGE1 to PAGE2, and then retain the
form info for PAGE3 without using cookies, sessions or DB storage? Also, I
dont want to repost page2 to page3 using hidden form fields.
Just curious! Want to know how to "simply" maintain user form inputs across
a web site even when security and privacy controls are set to MAXIMUM on the
browser. I know using databases would do it, but I would love to find a
simpler solution.

I am new to asp. I am trying to setup a log-in screen and am having trouble figuring out how to set the session cookie. I found the bit of code below, and it works if I enter a specific 'email' and 'password' into the "if" statement, however we have multiple users logging into the section. How can I set it up so that if the form is successfully submitted using any of the multiple email/password combos then it creates the session?
Example found...
<%
Username=Request.Form("email")
Password=Request.Form("Password")
If email="emailaddress" AND Password="password" Then
Session("Loggedin")=True
End If

When something doesn't work, disable error skipping stuff like "on error resume next" which just tend to cover up the problems, sweeping them under the rug as it were...
Echo important variables as you go along to make sure they are getting set as you expect: what is the "query" variable, is it the string you are expecting?
Response.Write "inside Database Recordset Loop, query has a value of" & query & "<br />" & VbCrLf
If not, echo each of the three pieces and see if one or more is not getting passed from the form.
I don't understand the
Call data.MoveNext()
Wend
Call data.Close()
Call objConn.Close()
part at all, what are you trying to do here?
Use flags along the way, to signal how far you get, like echoing when you enter and after you leave key loops or control structures:
Response.Write "inside Database Query Section<br />" & VbCrLf
Response.Write "inside Database Recordset Loop<br />" & VbCrLf
Response.Write "Database Connection just closed successfully<br />" & VbCrLf
etc. etc.

ASP Session/Cookies, Help to Protect Page from Non users I am a beginner and very urgently need some help
I have created a asp page, that takes in a username and password and validates it as follows and then if true continues to the pages requested.
Code:
'Read in the password for the user from the database
If (((Request.Form("txtUser")) = rsCheckUser("User_pass")) and (rsCheckUser("User_lev") = 1) ) Then
'If rsCheckUser("User_level") = 1 Then
'THE ABOVE CHECKS THE INFO IS CORRECT AND IT REDIRECTS TO THE PAGE BELOW and Session=True
'If the password is correct then set the session variable to True
Session("blnIsUserGood") = "True"
'Redirect to the authorised user page and send the users name
Response.Redirect"user_self_update_form.asp?ID=" & rsCheckUser("ID") & ""
'Close Objects before redirecting
Set adoCon = Nothing
Set strCon = Nothing
Set rsCheckUser = Nothing
End If
Now this code takes you to page :Response.Redirect"user_self_update_form.asp?ID=" & rsCheckUser("ID") & ""
Which is something like /project/user_self_update_form.asp?ID=1
Since after the login you do to this, you are allowed to see this page.
But The page user_self_update_form.asp?ID= can also be access if you just put the link on the browser. Lets say i log in as ID 2, and just change the ID to 3 on the address bar in the browser, i will log into someone elses page.
How to i block this from random access and only the SPECIFIC USER?
Code for user_self_update_form.asp (the protected page unless you are logged it):
The Session = False part just does not work here, so if you get this link of someone, you can just get it, and you are not redirected.
<%
'If the session variable is False or does not exsist then redirect the user to the unauthorised user page
If Session("blnIsUserGood") = False or IsNull(Session("blnIsUserGood")) = True then
'Redirect to unathorised user page
Response.Redirect"unauthorised_user_page.htm"
End If
%>
<%
'Dimension variables
Dim adoCon 'Holds the Database Connection Object
Dim rsGuestbook 'Holds the recordset for the record to be updated
Dim strSQL 'Holds the SQL query for the database
Dim lngRecordNo 'Holds the record number to be updated
'Read in the record number to be updated
lngRecordNo = CLng(Request.QueryString("ID"))
and all the other protected into here:

I need help with setting up a page where the viewer has to accept terms before they can access the rest of the website.
The page will have a bit of text explaining why they need to accept oor decline the terms and then have 2 buttons. ie. accept or decline.
What I need to be able to do is set this up so that if the viewer tries to bypass the accept/ decline page they will get re-directed to it. If they have clicked the accept button then they can view anywhere on the site.
I understand that 'sessions' in IIS don't actually close until about 20 mins after the user has left the site and can live with that. But if they come back the next day they must go through the accept/decline page to get into the site. It doesn't have to have usernames or password, they just have to accept.
I understand that you set up several pages to do this, i.e. the accept/decline page, a 'checkterms' page (which sets the session cookie?) and then some code on every other page on the site to check for the presence of the session cookie and let you view if it is there. If not, redirects you to the Accept/Decline page.
The problem I have is I don't know what code to write and where to put it into the page.

In my Session_OnStart in Global.asa, I am setting some cookies. One
of them, I set as follows:
dim UserID
UserID = Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER")
Response.Cookies("User")("ID") = UCASE(UserID)
When I immediately log the cookie value retrieved from
Request.Cookies("User")("ID") into the Windows Event Log, I get the
correct value. However, when I try to retrieve the cookie on the home
page of my application using the same code,
Request.Cookies("User")("ID"), it either cannot find the cookie or
cannot read the value. I am retrieving the cookie before all HTML
headers are written. It is my first statement on the page after
Option Explicit. I have even compared the session IDs. The SessionID
created in the Session_OnStart is the same value as the SessionID on
the home page.
I have read that the Session_OnStart only has access to the
Application, Session and Request objects. It does not explicitly say
that it does not have access to the Response object. Also, I was even
able to use Response.Write's in Global.asa to print out the values
although it looked like it had also stopped the session after I did
so. Cookies are definitely enabled on my machine. I have even tried
setting the session cookie's expiration to be persistent for a few
days to see if it was perhaps expiring before I was able to read it
but this did not work either.
Is there something preventing cookies to be created in Global.asa in
the Session_OnStart sub? Is the Response object not available???
Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem or solution.

In my prototype asp page (with no javascript and no password validation, I have a registration form with the following action:
<form name="form" method="post" action="RegDetails.asp">
This works fine, the form details are collected by RegDetails.asp
I am attempting to include javascript server side validation for the pasword, which obviously requires password and password2 fields (to be verified). I have used the script available at:
http://javascript.internet.com/forms/val-pass.html
It works fine in a new blank page with the form action:
<form name=myForm onSubmit="return validatePwd()">
The final stage in this javascript demo form displays an alert box:
else {
alert('Nice job.');
return true;
When I change the first line of my original form to:
<form name=myForm onSubmit="return validatePwd()">
how do I get my original action of - action="RegDetails.asp" instead of this alert box?

I have created a workorder form on Front Page that employees use to send in computer and other maintenance problems. In the form properties, I can choose to send the data to a database OR send it in an email, but can not choose both. We have it going to a database so we can better manage the data. But we would also like to send an email notification when a new record is added to the database.
I've tried this in Access on the database end but came up emptyhanded. The Access gurus have suggested it's something I need to do in html on the form. My html is very limited so I'm hoping someone can tell me if this is possible, and how I would go about doing it. The HTML gurus suggested it was an ASP issue.

What is the best and easiest method to do this? Do I have to capture each element of the form and string it to the body and then send it out in the page or is there any faster way to grab the entire contents of the form entirely and attach to the body?

I have been investigating how to create a multi page form in Frontpage that
eventually will allow an emailed result. I can write the asp to "post" from one
page to the next easily enough but when it comes to the last page, I can't
figure out how to email the results. the syntax "response.write" will write to a
web page but it won't fill in the content of am email. I thought of putting the
"response.write" inside the body of a CDO.message but that leads to the next
question...
While looking at threads about the subject I keep seeing that I should use
CDO (or CDONTS) or a third party app like aspmail. All of which, from what I can
gather, use IIS SMTP service to function.
The problem I will have is that I have Exchange 5.5 on the same machine so
the SMTP on IIS won't start since ex5.5 uses that port. I have ex2k on another
machine that I will soon move the users over to so that will free up the IIS
port but I would prefer using the new mail server for this when it is running.
Is there a method for using the ex5.5/ex2k mail system for sending the asp
generated email? or perhaps another technique? I would prefer to just write it
but if I have to buy something I will.

how to get started with this project. I want a page where a

3) fields for order numbers
Billing and shipping seem pretty straight forward.
Because I have no idea of how many products a customer will order, I'm

do this?Then, assuming I get all these dynamically generated fields, how do I get
them into an OrderDetails table?

I'm trying to setup something that adds/edits records to an access db using vbscript.
I've got an html form with text, select and textarea inputs.
These values get passed to an asp page that UPDATES the record (not INSERT because it's actually appending to an existing record). Because this page is also an EDIT page, I SELECT all the values so as to:

My questions:
It's no problem populating the values of form "text" inputs, but how do I do the same for
a) the "select" inputs (Make the proper value SELECTED)? and
b) the textarea input?
ie. The user goes to the page for the first time and there aren't any values yet. They use the various form inputs to add values. When they come back to edit the same record I need to display current values of all form fields properly. Code:

I have a timesheet type form that has 40 different row - each row has two dropdowns, one for a project and one for a task, and a dropdown box for each day of the week. Once a project and task has been selected, hours spent on that task each day of the week are entered into the text boxes.
What I would ideally like to do is, before I send this page for processing on my asp page (which involves saving the data back to the database), I'd like to check whether or not the user has entered the same project/task combination on multiple rows.....the dropdowns on each row are named project1-project40, task1-task40, mon1-mon40 etc.
I'm using VBScript for the server side scripting, but I'll happily incorporate a section of Javascript code if that will offer me a simpler solution.

I have a html form which allows the user to select add, delete, update or view from a drop down list. Their choice is sent to an asp page.
My problem is how to send them back a form from the asp page depending on their choice and send the resulting input to the same asp page again for processing.
So if they choose 'add' from the html page then that is sent to the asp page and they are sent back another form, to fill out the new record details which is in turn resubmitted to the same asp page to carry out the 'Insert' statement.
