Format Text From Database

Is it possible to store html tags in a database field so that when data is retrieved from this field the formating is retained? For example I have an address field in my database, which I return using:

<p><%=(rsType.Fields.Item("DAT_Address").Value)%>

However they are times where I may want to have my city, state etc on seperate lines by using <br>, but right now if I store a <br> in my database it does not affect the formating of my displayed address.

Text Format

I use <textarea> input more than one paragraph to the database, whose field
type is set to "text". Then I retrieve it to display in <textarea>, which is
OK, paragraph by paragraph, but not in the other tabs because of no <P> or
<br> between each paragraph.

Is there any solution to display in other tabs
than <textarea> paragraph by paragraph. Or do I have to change the database
field type other than text? And which type is good in this case. Thanks for
any idea.

Date Format Into Database...

Format Records From Access Database

I have an access db from which I would like to display records in a formatted manner. I can display all the records one after the other on one page no problem, but I would like to display maybe 6 records on one page (3 across, 2 down). I would then need a page break for printing purposes.

Displaying all the records on one page would be fine if I can put a page break in so that they print correctly. I currently have it fomatted correctly, but my loop is not working correctly. Instead of different records displaying, I have 6 of the same record displaying, then the next record displaying 6 times, etc.

Even if it's better to do this over multiple pages, that would be fine as long as I can print the report with all records by clicking Print only once. Maybe even display the records on multiple pages with next and previous buttons, but when the user clicks print, then it would print a report from access.

I hope this all makes sense. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions or pointers on the best way to do this both for viewing and printing purposes? Code:

Storing Correct Date Format In Database

I am using the code below to add a date input into an access database.

Quote: rs.Addnew
rs("Date")= Request.Form("Date")

Instead of inserting a date with the format dd/mm/yy, a date format of yy/mm/dd will be inserted into the database.

I entered the following code before the insertion Quote: response.write request.form("Date") and it displayed the correct date format as dd/mm/yy.

Pls how do I insert the date into the database for it to store the date as dd/mm/yy instead of as yy/mm/dd. The date format in the date field of the database is dd/mm/yy.

Text Or Include File Vs. Using Database

Question about the performance of using an include file or reading from a text file compared to hitting the database.

I set up a client's web site so they can post a weekly message and also post a "of special interest" message on their home page. Originally these messages were stored in and retrieved from an Access 2000 database. I decided to try writing the messages to a text file then retrieving it through include file and also tried the text streaming object.

I used netmechanic.com to gauge the download times for all three methods on a 56K modem. According to the results, using the database was around 4 seconds quicker. Does this sound right? The site is on a shared hosting package using Win2000.

Cleaning Up Text For Database Insertion

I'm trying to write a page that will accept form POST method variables from another page and save them to an Access database via a DSN connection. I'm using code like this:

<%
SQL = "INSERT INTO myTable (postVar1,postVar2,postVar3)"
SQL = SQL & " VALUES ('" & request.form("postVar1") & "','" & request.form("postVar2") & "','" & request.form("postVar3") & "')"

dsnConn.execute(mySQL)
%>

I'd like to make sure that I clean up the text that the user inputs before trying to send it to the database. Can someone please give me an example of what ASP code I need use to get rid of quotes, slashes, and anything else a user could enter that might mess up the SQL insert?

I would very much appreciate anyone that can point me to script (prefferably ASP and javascript) to be able to do all of this including storing all the text fully intact (paragraphs) inside an access 2000 database.

Populate Dropdown With Image AND Text From The Database?

2nd column is company_name (text)

I want to build a form, a dropdown box which I would populate with the help of a sql statement from my database. The both columns from up there are associated.

When the user clicks on that dropdown box, I need that company_logo and company_name to be shown one beside another. It should list all the companies availible (taken from that sql statement or recordset).

Does anyone knows if this could be done?

Maybe I should stick just with the textual part?
