I want to control the user name which is loggin into the application. Once the user is logged in, the username should be saved through out the system until the user logged out.
For that matter, how can i keep the user name? Should i use cookie or session? How is the difference and which is better?
As the subject states, does anyone know of a VCS for ASP/VBS files ?
We are using the Liberum Help Desk system, which is "open sourced under the GPL license and free for use", and are about to make some changes to the system.
As each new version of Liberum is released, we may need to re-apply our changes to the new source code. Any easy ways of doing this, or any good VCS available ? Any tips to help cut down on the work involved to re-apply our changes, for instance, the use of includes would be obvious.
Our version of the (Access) db will be different from the Liberum releases, and I guess using stored queries would be in preference to 'hard coding' the SQLstrings ? I also hear stored queries are faster.
With each new version, we would need to find out (i) Differences in the new release to the previous release, and (ii) Diifferences between the new release and our 'version' of the product. Any easy methods to do this, rather than a multitude of "file compares" ??

I want to be able to set properties like background color, border, etc by default within the user control and then do something like <mynamespace:mypanel>Text and stuff to go in the Panel</mynamespace:mypanel>.
I would like to be able to put links, tables, and any other kind of HTML stuff inside the Panel. What property of my class/user control would the text part be? Am I going about this the entirely wrong way?
All I really want to do is to be able to set some properties of my Panel automatically without having to type each property over and over again every time I create a Panel.
I have one userControl containing some static HTML (div/tables) all havind unique id's and i want to collect them within one array in the Code Behind file, how would i do this through a foreach or for statement counting the items, i searched the framework, google and SP but i still haven't figured it out

I have my system set-up, where by when a user accesses the cms, a time stamp is added to the database. So we can keep check of when people accessed the system.
The added benefit of my addition, is that a session timeout is usable based on the inputted timestamp the user logged in. I added this functionaility because the system could be idle for some time and if so set the session to equal nothing or similar.
However what would be a nice feature of the cms is the display of the current user.
Below is code I have inputted to give some idea of what I am doing

to manage account users - the site has a page that allows people to create an
account (much like any site). The page populates the AD with all the
information and the user account but I am unable to enable the account.

I am using the Active DS Type library - not sure why there are multiple ones
(System.DirectoryServices) but it is rather confusing - I seem to accomplish
one thing with one and another with the other (they did have trouble
co-existing however). Anyway my script works very well but I am not able to

I am having a few problems with the Timer component in ASP.NET. I can get it to work in the C# windows application of visual studio but not in the ASP.NET.
The thing is a number of people will be logged into the website (its a game) so each person will need to view the same timer counting down to zero.
This is the code in ASP.NET. The timer only seems to be counting during page load.
How do i get it to count for a number of minutes while the game is in progress????

I created a stored procedure (sp) in my sql database. The sp accesses a table in another sql database. I ran the commands to add the linked server and add the linked login. The tests work fine within the database. Using Visual Web Developer, I'm trying to link my Sqldatasource control to this sp and I'm getting the error: "Could not find server 'xxx' in sysservers. Execute sp_AddlinkedServer to add the server to sysservers." Can you tell me how to fix this error?

containing it is run.

'odd" is it seem like a client side problem.
I have a menu control that has two Menu choices
One is "View History Items"
the second is "PDA"
My problem is as you roll the mouse over the menu options, the second
one works only if your mouse is actually over the text "PDA". Since it
is much narrower than the first item, the entire width lights up like
an active link, but the link won't work unless your exactly over the
area that has actual text. So it appears to the user who clicks too far
to the right that nothing is happening (which it isn't)
I need to create a treeview on a database management .aspx site that
when the parent is clicked, it expands to display the many associated
records with it. Aka, it pulls info from not one, but two sql server
tables. Further, these rows must be editable.

by Google (the Google Toolbar Cached Snapshop of Page function).
Is this directive from my server preventing Google from caching the
