i have many *.html* pages with the same header. i wanted to make one *header* file and put a link to that file in all html pages. So if i ever need to make changes in the header, i will need to edit only 1 file rather than all pages.
for *.asp* pages this code works fine:-
<!-- #include file="filename.inc" -->
but the same **include** does not work for *.html* pages. i guess there is some other way to put a link!

I am uploading to a server for the first time. I believe that my server will not point to .asp pages as the start page, only .htm is this correct?
I wanted my index.asp page displayed first from the web-site by default, but have been told that I need say, an index.htm which then points to my index.asp page.
Is there a way that I can use my index.asp page as my start page?

I want visitors to be able to react on the website i'm making. I'm not an ASP-expert, but i've created a html contactform which sends it's data to a sendmail.asp-script. So far so good: i receive email.
What i don't like is that when the asp-script is executed a blank page is displayed and i would like to display a "Thank you-message" not in a new window but instead of the filled contactform. Again, i'm not an ASP-expert, but willing to learn.

im wondering if there is a method/command which can be used so that when an asp page is called, it can 'explode' content from a text file (.txt) onto a web page, thus enabling a n00b to alter the text within the file, rather than the web page itself?
Further more, if I wanted to incorporate the text which is exploded into a CSS to give it some style flava, how would I do this? Is it possible?

I’ve been busy converting my website's static pages to ASP pages. I ran into one problem. Currently there is an index.html and an index.asp in the www directory. When I delete the index.html file, I would expect the site to default to index.asp, but instead I get an error message.
Directory Listing Denied
This Virtual Directory does not allow contents to be listed.
This is the procedure I’ve used for PHP sites, but maybe there is a different rule I’m not familiar with

we use the indexserver to index serveral files on the files server witch are then searchable thru our intranet. All of that works fine, but the indexserver get the local path to the files witch is E:datenpath ofile.doc for instance. There is an option for getting a relative path, but that just throws out the path to the form that we use to search the katalog. how would i go about changing the above path from file://e:datenpath ofile.doc to file://n:path ofile.doc?

I want to create a page that uses a horizontal alphabetical index such as
a b c .....
so when the user clicks on a letter they go to that section listing the manufacturer names beginning with that letter.
My question is that since I am pulling the names from a database, what is the best way to create the sections for each letter? My first thought is a basic and overkill solution creating a record set for each letter. Would I use arrays?
I know I could just create a separate page for each letter to display the corresponding entries. Would rather have one page at this time.

I have set up Index Server in IIS to search my intranet. I've installed the Adobe PDF filter so that words from PDF files are included.
I can get results from PDFs when querying the catalogue in the Windows console. However, I have tried various ASP Search pages and they all ignore PDF files from a browser (even though the scripts include the pdf extension).

Im working on a new site and im not using frames, im using #include files. The isse is you cant put a variable into an include file because includes are loaded befor variables and this means that the include dont work...
what ive done is make an include page with a quirystring passing which page i want to load in, then on the included page it looks at the case and when it = 2 for example. it loads whats in case 2 which in this case is <!--#include file="../XtraNET/Forum.asp"-->
trubble is theres 52 menu items, if the site would always have 52 menu items this would be solved, but you can add new ones.. thusly i need to be able to dynamic the code...
My train of thought is can i store the whole <!--#include file="../XtraNET/LiveChat.asp"--> statement in the database and call it within the code dynamicly, like a document.write or somthing.

I just started ASP/ASP.NET two days ago. I would like to know the best way to go about using this include file method to contain my connection string stuff. As I understand it, a connection should only last as long as the query action (unlike VB6 with a persistent connection.)
So, what would be the best stuff to put into an include file for my connection stuff so I only have to make one change throughout the ASP/ASP.NET app?
Any other experiences with good things to put in that include file?
Can I also create the connection object in the include file and use it in multiple pages?

I've created two separate files that I use as includes to display the header and footer of each page.Everything works fine if the pages that contain the includes remain in the same directory: the root directory. However, I want to use the includes in other places but I can't figure out a good way to solve the problem of the paths that are in the actual include files (path to stylesheet in the header, etc.).
Here is my basic directory structure on the web server (I've used "code" to make it easier to read):
Code:
- root
- include
header.asp
footer.asp
+ images
- misc
contact.asp
index.asp
I want to use the same include files in contact.asp but, obviously, the paths are going to be wrong. I've tried using Server.MapPath in the paths of header.asp and footer.asp so that the includes can be used anywhere in the site but, it is not working. And, I don't want to have the physical path visible in the source code. Is there a function or method I don't know about that can give me a path to the "root"?What have you done if in a similar situation?

if it's possible to have a select tag in an include file which is to be included into an ASP page?I have an include file which renders a popup screen. The screen has text
fields i.e <input type="text"> fields which gets input from the user. I want to change one of the fields to a ddl and the field will not show up.code:
<select> <option value="">Choose One</select>
As you can see its the most basic of code, but it doesn't show up on the screen. When I change the code to a text field it does.

I've tried both methods of using include files VIRTUAL= and FILE= when I use the VIRTUAL include I receive the error:
Error Type:
Active Server Pages, ASP 0126 (0x80004005)
The include file 'ProductList.asp' was not found.
and when I use a FILE include the page just produces nothing the regular page script runs so I know the asp is working but the include files just produce nothing. which leads me to believe something is wrong with my settings in IIS. Im running IIS on Windows 2000.
