How To Include Multiple Variables Without Having To Write Them All Out
i have many different variables like addr, addr1, addr2 addr3 etc and i want this to occur
if addr = "" then
error = "ERROR:You have not entered all the required information. <br>Press the Back Button on your web browser and try again."
Response.Write error
But that only works for addr. Is there any way to include addr2 and the rest of the variables in that statement without writing it out 50 times
When i use this it also gives me the domain name as well as the username. (example, amrswbouse) I know i can do js to trim off the first few letters but i want to know if there is a server variable that will save me the effort.
Is there a way i can send variables to an included page other than the session. I know about doing it via the session but i find that a bit messy and it might affect system performance.
can i use server.execute (my.asp?id=6) or something similar ?
I have to include a menu on the side of every page that looks different depending on what page is being displayed so i need to find a way to do this properly.
What are the best methods for using global constants and variables? I've noticed that many people put all global constants in a file and include that file on every page. This is the best way of doing it - is it not? Once the application has loaded the page it is cached and is immediately available for other pages.
With global variables - the best thing to do would be to use application variables - so long as there weren't too many declared. Is there another (easy) way of using global variables apart from using application variables?
For some reason, I am having trouble with this. I want to have a select statement, such as -
<% Select Case Request("service") Case "s" <!-- #include file="includes/bottom_nav.inc" --> Case "p" <!-- #include file="includes/bottom_nav.inc" --> Case "a" <!-- #include file="includes/bottom_nav.inc" --> End Select %>
I know that is not the correct syntax for the include files.
In line 7, I need to display the results of the variables strFName and strLName (and have a space in between the two) but I don't know the proper formatting. If I just use the & then I get the literal strFname instead of the value. Could someone please show me the correct syntax for this?
I have an asp page that reads in a variable name via the url.but I need to recall the asp page with another variable but don't want to loose the first variable in the url. This piece of code sits at the top of the calllog.asp page,I am wondering if I can use the "choice" variable in the bottom portion of my code
This is the actual calling snippet of code - this is where I would like to use the choice variable as an option <% Response.Write "<a href=""calllog.asp?pNum=" & pageNo + 1 & """>Next Page</a> %>
I have attempted this as well: Response.Write "<a href=""calllog.asp?pNum=""& pageNo +1 & ""+companychoice=' & choice &'"">Next Page</a>"
Before I created this thread, I've searched Google and used the search feature of this forum numerous times on how to do this, but couldn't find much.
Basically, I'm trying to pass multiple sets of values from the search form to the ASP into an SQL statement (Access Database).
I can only make it display different prices of a certain music type, eg all prices of rock. But it doesn't output all types of music for certain prices, eg viewing Classic and Rock records with prices of 8.99 and 10.99 only.
I've used the REPLACE command I've found and got around that problem of syntax with numeric/alpha data. Code:
Does anyone know the detail of how session variables are actually stored? The question I'm trying to answer is:
Is it more efficient to store and retrieve multiple short strings :
a) in multiple small session variables b) concatenated and stored as one large session variable c) inserted into an array and stored in a session variable d) it's all the same. Who cares?
Keeping in mind that for this application each piece of data will be retrieved for every page.
I've read that storing a dictionary object in a session variable is bad ews - something to do with ending up with thread in your apartment, or something ;-)
What I'd really like to do is create an XML object and store that in a session variable, but I'm guessing that would be pretty inefficient unless it had quite a lot of data in it.
This is a simple question, but is been a while since I program in ASP and I forgot.
I have a variable like this: 01-00005-03
I need to have 3 variables from that single one... Something like this, from that variable, let for example that is called fullvariable, split it and get the following variable values from it.
Just as the title says I am trying to do something impossible with a single SQL statement. I am doing an ASP webpage for internal use at the company I work for.
I want to know if there is a way to insert/update data into multiple tables in 1 SQL statement.
If it requires functions | views or anything else that is fine but I don't want to have 3-4 different SQL statements to update 2-3 different columns in different tables.
I have a search option on my website, which should perform a search on 4 fields, as follows:
tblNews headline content
tblDatabank filename description
It only needs to return matches which are an exact match of their search criteria. For instance, searching for "I am here" would return a record which contained "I am here", but not just "I" or "I am" etc.
I need to return all these records as part of one recordset preferably, as I want to be able to order them etc., though I imagine you may suggest I use an array somehow to merge two recordets etc., then reorder them?
I want to be to call my menu from another file onto my page so that i dont have to add it to every page of my website. The problem is when i try to add it using the include method it says that only one include file is allowed on an ASP. The other include file is my connection string so i cant really take that out of the page because then nothing else will work!
How can i get the menu page included as well as the connecting string?
Have added the code below, i have highlighted the 2 include files that i want to use in blue, i have also left the div tag in for where i currently have the menu which is what i want to take out and have ther include file there instead, if that makes sense. Basically the bit in red i want to be able to remove from all of my pages and add the blue file above the red code in instead, but i dont know how!!!!! Code:
i hav problem with updating the data. In the asp page i hav displayed records based on search criteria. in display mode im displaying the to be updated field in combo box for each similar contract_no. each contract_no will hav different no of rows and to be updated combo box.

i am having a problem with ASP not doing the requestion action of Response.Write based on conditions of a code entered on a first page. The codes are below. I made the second page from template of another that yall helped me with and it aint working.. Code:
Was curious if someone could help me out. I'm setting up a website and using Server side includes to make it easier for maintaining. I've got a contact form that will be included on several pages and I need to know from what page the forms is getting posted from. If I can figure out how to pass one value to a hidden field I can use the form as an include instead of hard coding the whole form into each page.
Ideally the value to be passed could be coded into each page then asp could pick it up and insert it into the hidden field. Any one point me in the right direction for accomplishing this. I don't have a clue about asp other than the basic include statement.
May i know isit can use asp to send an automail when customer fill up the registration form. i need to send a automail to his email verify the customer details. is it any free source code to write?
Since ASP server scripts use VBScript by default, does it mean it is redundant to put the following in ASP page? Then when do we need to use this? In client-side VBScript?
I want to be able to write a gif in my ASP app. Not even sure if it is possible with response.write. I want to replace the 'Member Log In' text with XXX.gif, and still have it linked to login.asp....
I am trying to retrieve info from database and display it in the form. The problem I having is when I try to change the info in the form, it is not changing and I don't know why. table.fieldname = payroll
Code:
payroll = rs("payroll") If payroll = "something" Then payroll = "Some Payroll" End If
In the form table: <input type="text" name="payroll" value=<%response.write(payroll)%>>
I want "Some Payroll" to be displayed in the form instead of "Something".
