Linked 'tables' (access) Local - To -remote
Is it actually possible for a local access 2000 database to link to a remote database online via linked tables. I just wanted to know how feasible a LINKED TABLE scenario would be.
If this was possible it would solve so many administration problems and save development time when it comes to building asp-admin pages to manage the backend.

Ithe goalposts have been moved (yet again!) and the database that was one, may have to become many, being used on subdomains of the same server sharing some information but not all from a 'global' database. The solution I initially found was to used linked tables and developing it on pws - this was perfect. I linked local databases to the external table data in the 'global' database hey presto the application ran smoothly. There was only 1 connection to each local database and I could retrieve all the information I needed from the global one. However on uploading I have no idea how to set this via asp or sql as online the path of the linked tables is what was on my local machine and I have found no way of being able to edit this or indeed know if this is possible.

I have an Access DB that has a linked table to a SQL Anywhere DB. When I try to access this Access DB, it prompts me the first time every time for username and password to the SQLA DB. This isn't a problem when it is just me that is working on development, however,
I figured MS would have something good to say about this issue, so that my users can use this DB as well. MS says I need to pre-open the table using the same credentials for both DB's. I have tried this several ways, and am still unable to open the linked access DB.
The error I get is that the DSN=xsellvehicles (this is the DSN that is used by Access to open the table that resides in SQLA) can't be used because the username or password doesn't work.

On a remote server running W2K and thus IIS 5 I have session variables declared in a global.asa file in the root of the application which are passed and visible on all pages with no problem. This was also the case on my localhost before (127.0.0.1), also on W2K / IIS 5. But now for some reason one variable doesn't pass through at all and the other is taken as a String on the localhost.
The problem area in question in my Global.asa file (which is identical on the remote and local servers)
<script language="vbscript" runat="server">
Sub Session_OnStart
CInt(Session("indx"))=0
CInt(Session("total"))=0
...
End Sub
When I view the values locally with:
pprice = Request.QueryString("fpPrice")
Session("total") = Session("total") + pprice
Response.Write "Index: " & Session("indx")
Response.Write "Total: " & Session("total")
I get (for example - pprice = 45, and after 3 attempts):
Index:
Total: 454545
Whereas on the remote server I get:
Index: 3
Total: 135
Has anyone else experienced this?

I have a access database on my server which my users can download it from my website. I have update.asp file which will update the database on the client. So say if there are 2 users each will download a copy of the database on to their machines.
When they run the update.asp file, the information will go to their respectively database(the one's on their machine). The architecture of the DB's remains the same but each client will have his only data. Is this possible? IF yes then, why do I get this error...
Microsoft JET Database Engineerror '80004005'Could not find file C:Test.mdb.

Wish I'd found the thread yesterday before spending half the day fighting
the same battle and finding a workaround. But at least it explains why my
final approach worked.I set the remote folder as a virtual folder on the webserver, assigned web rights to a domain user and used fso.copyfile(server.mappath) to copy a
file created locally.I'm not thrilled that access to the remote location can't be controlled at the user level this way but at least access to the calling script can.
Strange though, the problem showed up during a migration. Server A had been
hosting this asp page and connecting to server B sucessfully. I was moving
the application to server C when I ran into the problem. All three machines
are W2K, same service pack, same domain, same users, same access
rights/method configuration. Go figure.

I am connecting to remote access database through my asp script. The Access database is on a different domain and my webserver(where asp scripts reside) is on a different domain. When i ran the script i got this scary error message:Code:
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x3a8 Thread 0x7c4 DBC 0x2770ff4 Jet'.
i think this is related to some permissions issue, but not sure how to correct it.

I have a site that is working well after first build. All the tables in the Access database are standalone, if you like, but I wanted to try and incorporate lookup columns within the database to try and reduce possible input mistakes. The only problem now is one of these columns is is used as a URL parameter on the site and It's not bringing in the relevant info that corresponds to that entry, if that makes any sense whatsoever.
If I change it back to not having looup columns it works fine, but I want to crack this as it will mean less trouble in the future I suspect. The column in question refers to a list of counties so I want the user to pick that entry from a list, which of course refers to another table.
