In our legacy asp/web-application, we have
date/time-input form in USA style
(i.e. mm/dd/yyyy and 12hour-scale time with AM/PM).
There is also some validation code on client side,
and then submitted data are used in MSSQL queries.
Now I would like to know about how to generate locale-dependent
HTML form layout, and what ready-made ASP code could I borrow
for this task.
I am unsure how to process the results of a form where the name of the <input> is generated dynamically i.e.
<input name="X<%=counter%>">
or similar.
How is each input then referred to in the page the form is posted to? I can't see any way to dynamically create variable names in ASP?

Can't seem to work out how to call an ASP/VBSCRIPT function from within html, is this able to be done? Can call JS without issue, but need to change a Session variable when this radio button is clicked.
What I'm trying to do is create a page where a user is directed to enter a code (something that will be supplied to them ahead of time) When they enter this code and hit submit I was hoping it could then goto a dynamic HTML page that would contain adifferent form depending on what code they enter.

What will be the performance of a page designed in this manner?
An ASP.NET page (using Web Forms) provides a performance of around 3 seconds over a decent internet link. Will the same be achievable using Windows Forms?
No doubt, Windows Forms provide the best performance for Desktop Applications, but what about in a Web Application as explained above?
This approach is similar to Java Applets. And Applets have failed over the web in time critical applications.
I surfed quited a few .NET related sites (MSDN, gotdotnet etc.) for typical numbers on performance for this kind of page design, but in vain.
Which Locale ID (LCID) displays YYYY-MM-DD (ISO 8601)?
We have a classic ASP site running on IIS 5. We will be using a com
component to handle session state so we can share state between .net and
classic. This means switching the IIS session state off. Prior to this
locale was set in the session. Switching the session off means the dates
start displaying in a US format, not British. Is there any way of setting
the Locale as UK easily.
As it is IIS 5 we can't use response.lcid, I don't
want to mess around with regional settings on the machine as our
applications aren't very well designed :) and I will get the blame for
breaking them. I don't want to put a page directive in over 1000 asp page.
Is there anyway of setting it at an application level in IIS.

as I am hosted on a US server, but I need to display the time in GMT. This code still displays the server time though. Would it be better to just display <%=Time()%> and then knock 5 hours off the US time? If so, would <%Time(-5)%> work?

I have a dropdown box getting data from a database, and I send the data to the database on form submition, But, I need to send another data to another column to the database according with the user dropdown box selecion. Example.
Dropdown option 1: DELL Corp.
Dropdown option 2: IBM Corp.
Dropdown option 3: Avante Systems
If the user select DELL Corp., it will send 'DELL Corp.' to the database but I need it to send dell.jpg to another column too. I have the code to send the data, but the relationship of the boxes is 'the thing'.

I have a database table called Pumpdata. This table contains all the different pumps available. I had to make 2 other related tables one called pumpType which is just a description of Pump Types. ie.. (single, double, mixer etc..) and the other table is PumpManufacturer which contains a list of Pump Manufacturers.. the 2 tables are related to the pumpdatatable based on the TypeID (in PumpType) and MfgID(in PumpManufacturer)..
Ok the problem I'm faced with Is I need to create a form to get a particular pump based on the Pump Type, The manufacturer, and then the specific Model Number..
The First list box alllows the user to select the Pump Type, The second ListBox allows the user to select the manufacturers based on the pump selection. I cannot do the following: when selecting an item from the combo, it should send the ID of the combo to a textbox. If the first item is the desired selection another option has to be selected and then the first item has to be reselected for the list to work properly to update the next dynamic list box. To include the --Select-- in the second and third list box table would add several thousand rows to the table. If I added the --Select-- in the table it would add several thousand rows to the database.

View Replies View RelatedI've gotten the dependent drop down boxes to work except, when I fill out the form, and get to where I click the first drop down box and make a selection, the page refreshes and all of the fields turn blank, except for the second drop down box, which displays the correct records based on what was chosen in the first box in the entire form. Also the first drop down box returns to the first record in the list.

I have created a booking database for our staff to add bookings into for a business and it is all based around dates etc. I want people to be able to select the year in the first box and then in the next list select the month and then the date.
Can you give me a sample code on how to link the lists so that they are dependent? i can get single drop down lists just cant link them.
I'm working on a form where if a client makes an entry in one field, it causes another field to become unusable. The fields most likely will be drop-down lists. The form will be filled out online then mailed to me using the post method.

i've found several snippets of code that create the dependent dropdown; however, the two examples i have use arrays which are statically defined. the data that will populate the dropdowns is coming from a SQL database, and that data will be updated/changed fairly often. my question is this: is there any way to generate the arrays using ASP (outside javascript tags) and use them in the javascript?

I have a created a cost reporting system which shows a level-breakdown
report. There are three levels in the report the lowest level holds the cost
items that are entered by the user these records also have an Entry Date.
The level above that is a Sum of the lowest level and the top level is the
Sum of the second level. I created the solution using three queries in
Access. I then use the queries in ASP to generate the report. But now I need
to use the Entry Date at the lowest level to re-generate the report with
values from the StartDate to the EntryDate (which is entered by the user).
Question is, can I do this using the construction I use, or do I have to
pull my queries to the ASP code and include the dynamic EntryDate? How do I
solve this?
I have being working with making an edit field over the past few days. The edit function is now working fine. The edit fields that i have are for id, subject, notes, timedate.
All of the edit screens are one line text screens. What I want to do now is increase the size of the notes box to a larger textarea type box to make it easier to edit notes. The notes field in the db is a textarea field. Code:

I am calling a recordset from sql which happens to contain one column that is a datetime in the format: DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS. So when I call that column from the db, it displays in the same format within my page.
However, I would like to be able to display the datetime as part of my recordset, but in a more aesthetically pleasing format (i.e: Sunday 1st May 2000, 7.23PM)
I have tried using the formatdatetime() function along with my rs, but this causes syntax errors. I know this is probably dead simple, but I don't get it!
I am using mysql as my database and which to use a datetime field, for both displaying the data and time and using it to sort the recordsets.
And although when you look at the Db it shows the data and time like this
yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss
however if you simply display the field it displays like this
mm/dd/yyyy hh:mm:ss am (or pm)
I want to sort the data out so that it displays dd/mm/yyyy and there is no time, i can do this but wanted to know if there is a better way of doing it
My problems being I first have to work out if the date is below 10 then us a split function according, then the same with the month, then i have to use a massive if statement, to get it to display in words, and then I have to us the queries before so i can split the year, even if i use to fields in the db to store time and date i would still have the same problems, what is the best way to do this, Plus i may have more than one record to do, will this make a big different in processing my page if i say have 20 records to do.
and just to make sure is the timedate field suitable to sort my record sets out.
