Locked Database

Every now and then i have an issue with an asp site which results in a server restart. The database is an access database which gets locked to the admin account on the server, is there anyway of recording what is locking the file or a way of preventing it being locked?

Database Locked

I have inserted this piece of code:-

path=server.mappath("../../../databases/") & "/merlin.mdb"
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
Set f = fso.GetFile(path)
lastmodified=f.DateLastModified
lastmodified=dateAdd ("h",6,lastmodified)

so that I can determine when the user has modified the database. However the problem is that on the server, it works fine, however, on the local server (IIS) on my pc, everything seems to get stuck. Also it locks the databases (.ldb) and I cannot do any amendments on this database, if i don't restart the PC.

Locked File Handlers

We had to move a legacy ASP app to an IIS6 server and now the app has stopped working. Basically the offending script opens an image on a network share, rotates the image, and then saves it back to the original filename.

Unfortunately as soon as the script touches the file it seems to lock it and writing the rotated image back to the file fails. After that it becomes impossible to delete the file off the remote server as it is marked as in use by another application.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with the fact the image is on a share, as the problem happens when I try it with a local file as well. Code:

Array Is Fixed Or Temporarily Locked

I posted a similar problem a while ago but never found a solution. I am passing an integer value (called NoElements)from a html form (which gets created using javascript) to an asp page. The value of NoElements is used to create an asp array of that size. At first I was confronted with the following error:

Expected integer constant

I then was advised to initialise the array (to say 100) and then do a ReDim Preserve. I now get this error message:

This array is fixed or temporarily locked? What should (or at least I thought) be a simple porcedure is making my life a nightmare.

Detecting Or Ignoring Locked Files

We have an ASP script for updating web content which deploys a whole bunch of files from one server to another on the click of a button. Here are the steps it takes - pretty simple:

1. Delete all files requiring an update from Server B (remote server)
2. Copy all new files from Server A (local) to Server B

The problem is that many of these files are ASP scripts themselves and if someone is browsing the 'live' website on Server B (remote) then IIS will have the current scripts locked. So our delete script runs but gets to a file locked by IIS and fails, having deleted half the site, and does not continue with copying over the new version of the site. Very messy! I have to Remote Access to the server, wait for a gap in usage and manually delete the offending scripts before running the 'Deploy' functionality again.

So, I need to be able to check if a file is locked and ignore it in the process (perhaps reporting on that later) or be able to over-write locked files regardless. Code:

Database Limit - Microsoft JET Database Engine Error '80040e14'

I have just started using ASP, I am normaly using PHP but I thought ASP might be a good road to go down. I am having a few problems, I am trying to limit the number of records I take out the database but I keep getting errors.

<%
'connection string
datapath=Server.Mappath("guest.mdb")
strconn="PROVIDER=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=" & datapath & ";"
Set CONN = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
CONN.Open strconn

'select all records row by row
DBquery="SELECT * FROM Guests LIMIT 10"
set query=Conn.execute(DBquery)
do while not query.eof

'get a variable from the table
guest_id = query("ID")
guest_name = query("Name")
guest_msg = query("Mesg")
guest_date = query("DateTime")

'print the variable to the screen
response.write guest_id & "<br />"
response.write guest_name & "<br />"
response.write guest_msg & "<br />"
response.write guest_date & "<br />"
response.write "<br />"
'move to the next record
set conn = nothing
query.movenext
loop
%>

I am getting this error;

Many-to-Many :: Seperate Database Or One Database?

Products ---> Products|Customer <--Customer

With regardst the above many-to-many relationship:

Is there any advantage in creating seperate access databases for:

- Customer
- Products

....Rather than keeping them as three tables in one database.

The reason I ask is that I have found that if I am using a ftp approach to
overwriting or updating the remote database there are sometimes problems
with synchronizing data .....This seems to be a better solution?

Am I off base?

Job Database

They are on Windows 2000 IIS 5.0 and currently have an older version
of their job database using Access hosted on a Brinkster server.
The new server that they are on, when I contacted the host, they advised me
against creating any new applications using Access, as the server is not meant
for multi-users.
So, I am thinking that they need to get their host to upgrade to a SQL database
and have the job database developed using that.
My question to this forum is: What do you think is the best combination for
improvement here, SQL or MySQL or what, considering that their site is using asp
and hosted on Win2000 IIS 5.0?
Also, any recommendations on scripts that might be already available that could
be customised to their site?

Same Database

What we have is our own (in house) Windows 2000 Server which runs MS SQL for our data storage and we have writen our own VB6.0 Application which runs of the SQL DB to manange our stock, ordering, price's etc etc. Also we have our own Website with a Web Hosting Company which is also a Windows 2000 Server but can only Run access databases.
What we what to do is somehow have the Access database and the SQL database sync together to have some of the same data in both database's. But I don't know where to start.

SQL Database

This is probably a stupid question (I'm good at those)...
I would like to enable a user to be able to browse to a picture on their local machine and upload that picture to a remote directory where it can then be displayed along with it's other pertinent data.
I thought it might be a good idea to use Front Page's "file upload" feature which includes a "browse" button and prompts me for a storing location - but I can't get it to work and am not even sure if that's its intended purpose.
So my question is two-part, what should my insert or update page look like regarding an upload process, and then how would I link to or display that picture?

XML Database

I have an xml dataset.I have an html table that data is bound to and where rows of data are "selectable" with a click. I know how to get to the record in the xm dataset that I want. What I can't seem to figure out is how to move the selected row in the table on the screen so that it highlights the record I want.

Once I get that working in a regular table, I need to get it working in a paged table - that is, move to the correct "page" of data and then highlight the correct record.
