When I had just setup my web site with IIS 5.0 the error
log contained the 3 things I needed for my site stats
page.
The page that had that not been found (i.e.
site.com/nofile.html), the error number (404) and the
referrer (where the person came from to get to the bad
page); Now when I try to use my custom 404 page it only
logs the error number. How can I setup my page to log the
referrer and bad file page?
ASP is enabled and allowed yet for this one website we host you can't access
the asp pages on it. Instead you get a 404 not found error.
Anyone have any ideas on this? I found stuff on other newsgroups and
searching the web but nothing that fixes it.
There are other websites on this server that have asp pages and they are
working just fine.
I have experienced some ASP errors in my web application and I'm unable to reproduce those errors because IIS is configured in a way that does not send any debugging messages to the user (and I cannot change it). Only standard string "An error occured on the web server when processing the url..." is sent.
So Is there any way to log such situations to the eventlog, a file, database or any other storage? OR Is there any way to allow me to send only piece on debugging information to the user. In other words: I'd like to send error code that would be understandable only by me?
I thought this is more of an IE issue but i've had no joy on that group
perhaps somebody here will have a clue.
If i click a link to a web page embedded in Excel (97 OR 2000) i get the
standard error page displayed by IE (you know, the 'cannot find server or
dns error' page).
Turning off 'show friendly http error messages' alleviates this.
(Unfortunately this is the Windows default setting!)

I do not understand why. I am running perfectly well asp.net on a virtual directory, but if I put a simple asp file such as this, and named it foo.asp, and try to run it from this virtual directory, I get the 500 error:

Any ideas why? I check the Properties of this virtual directory, and under The Virtual Directory tab, Configuration button, App Mappings tab, I can see .asp listed pointing to
C:WINNTSystem32inetsrvasp.dll . If I look at this folder the dll exists.
I'm running windows 2000 professional. But I found the same problem in another computer running Windows 2003 server, IIS 6.0
I have come up against a very strange error, well one I havnt got before - and was wondering is there a way around this. In my mysql db i have a price field which is set as "decimal(10,2)" but when I try read from it through my asp page I get this error at the line where i do my recordset query:

If I change the field type to "Integer(10)" its fine, it just doesnt like the decimal for some reason . And the thing thats really throwing me off is when I write the sql string doing the query out to the page and copy it into my mysql browser and run it, it comes back fine with all the data and no error.
We have Windows 2003 Server as our SUS server. When we try to approve updates, etc., we receive the following error message. Has anyone experiences this before? If

I'm running IIS 5.1 under Windows XP Pro, and recently installed PHP and Active Perl to experiment with. Since I installed them, I get 500 Internal Server Error when I try
to access .asp pages.
I can't even consult the documentation for IIS 5.1 because they are in .asp format. how to get .asp pages working again?
I have been trying to submit a html form to an asp page. This results in 404 error. When i call a separate asp page with just a response.write or with a small text file i/o operation, it works fine.
But when i use a simple htm form with a text box and submit button gives a 404 error. All the pages exists. I use WinXP Pro/IIS 5.1.
Am i missing anything in settings? I tried restarting, reinstalling IIS and updating the patches to the latest but not of much help.
is there a way to make custom error pages specific to a particular page?I know you can make customer error pages for iis to use.but if there is an error on a particuar page, can i make a custom error page to be redirected to?
for example,if a user is clicking away and runs into an error,it would display error1.htm.if they were on a different page and an error occured,they would get an error2.hm.
I have a problem with personalization of error pages. I hav'n't find a way to insert an image in the 403-9 page (too many users).

View Replies View RelatedWhen I use IIS 6.0 to display static content everything works according to plans. Now I have created an asp page even though there is no dynamic content at the moment. The web page's name just ends in "asp" and has the Code:
<%@LANGUAGE="VBSCRIPT" CODEPAGE="1252"%>
at the first line of the code.
When I try to link to this asp-page I get an error code saying "Http 500 Internal Server Error". I then disabled the "friendly http errors" and got this information.
"Asp error Asp 0203"
"Invalid code page"
"The specified code page attribute is invalid"
I should also add that I have enabled/allowed asp as extension in IIS manager.
Anyone who knows what I can try to get IIS working with dynamic content too?
I have an ASP form that uploads files to our server.When I upload small files, it works great.But larger files like (2.5mb), I get:
Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0113' Script timed out
I have looked up the error, and added more time to the script (up to 10 minutes). Didn't help. We are using Microsoft Server 2000, IIS 5.0, and Microsoft ASP Upload.
My guess is that there is a file size limitation somewhere, but don't where.
The problem occured when I used FP2002 to create a page to search a database. The purpose was to see how it worked and the code behind it so I could start learning how to work it myself.

I need to log how many times one spesific file is downloaded from my
website. First I thought this could be done simply by routing via a script
that count number of downloads, and then redirect to the spesific file. But
this soultion will not work when a user right click on the file/link and
choose "save target as...". How can I solute this?

I'm developing an application that uses a custom 404 page to deliver all of my site's content. However, doing things this way renders IIS's regular log files pretty much useless.
Are there any established "best practices" for creating your own logging system? I know that others use this technique and I'm hoping someone has some ideas they can pass along. For example, do you log every single page request or do you just log totals per day, week, or month? How do you deal with the increasing volumes of data? Do you collect referrer data, etc.?

How can I log read receipts?

I have an asp application that allows users to access certain documents based on their ID and security level. This works fine, but I want to be able to log access attempts so that any potential abuser can be given proper warnings, etc. Basically, if I'm Attorney A then I should be able to access info on Case X, but Attorney B should not be able to, and any of his attempts to access Case X should be logged somehow.

On my site when people log in it changes a field in my database from 0 to 1 the website reads in all users marked as 1 as online.

this is a continuation of my little login page I am setting up.
the login pages authenticates the user using Active Directory.
I also have a Database locally in MSSQL that has the users ref number (primary key, incrementing) first name, last name, and user id (same user id as ldap/AD etc)
what I want to do is when the user logs in the page will call the Database and grab the full name as well as the ref number. Later in the page if the user submits a form to add data to another database I want it to populate a column in a table using the ref number. that should be rather easy once I actually have that ref number.so how would I tell the page to go to my database and grab his ref number (as well as his name to be able to display Welcome first Lastname instead of userid?
