I have a login that I want to be able to set a session so if they are not logged in they cannot view other pages from the main page. I also wanted to know how to display the persons name that is logged in using sessions. There first name and last name are in the database. I did it before but i cannot remember how to do it.

I even have set the value of connection timeout in the IIS settings to be 30 mins but still no use........... its is stll taking the default time
I have an ASP application (and associated .DLL) that generates HTML code.On one of my pages it generates a series of buttons (Input ... Language=vbscript ) each with an On Click sub associated with it. Once the ASP is expanded. each Onclick has only one statement in it, that is:

What I am trying to do is set a session variable based upon what button is pressed, because I want to use the "Answer" in future ASP pages.

I mean, asp session id is stored in a cookie and like any other cookie it should have properties (or attributes), how can I control it?
I have an ASP application that has been running for 5 years that I am now modifying. Since then, I have installed asp.net 1.1 and 2.0 on my xp pro box. Whenever I run the "login" code for the app, it crashes as my dllhost goes to 98% cpu. I have traced the code to this line:
Session("SCHUserID")=123
What is strange is if I set the value to 11 or lower, this does not fail. What is also strange is if I set Session("SCH1UserID")= 123 it works. I know this has to have something to do with running asp.net on this box as well. I have tried running the app in its own process (High) and creating it's own virtual directory with no luck.
I have these 3 tabs that I want the user to be able to select, a variable to be set, and then each page they visit in the site to read that variable and subsequently display content based on the variable that is set. So, Sheridan tab sees "Sheridan" variable content, Gillette sees "Gillette" variable content, etc.....

i have created a script that queries a database for a username and password, and if they are valid sets a session variable to TRUE and redirects to another page. the table which contains the user information is called "Users" with the fields "UID", "PWD", "FIRSTNAME", "LASTNAME", and "EMAIL". my question is, how can i set a session variable to use the FIRSTNAME record for the particular user that logs on? my code is below. What I want to test for is if there is 1 user logged in with Session("test") = 1 and another user logs in with the credentials to set Session("Test") = 1 then the first session will terminate. I am building a website to pull data from a remote https site using xmlhttp. The data from the https site is behind a login screen. I can successfully get through the login screen with:

I have used the software IETrace and it looks like some cookies being passed, but how do I know for sure if (and what exactly) it is using?
I want to login to a page using MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP.4.0 or an object like this, I must send the form variables needed to login when I try to login to the page. But the problem is, that the page looks like a exe file (not a asp file or php file or what ever). The name of the page I try to login is something like "/pw?/session/login", nothing more, without extension. I have tried the code with a normal asp file with session registration and login process and it worked, but not with this file.

I am creating an edit facility for an online showroom which I want to output the
contents of a database record into a form so it can be edited and updated by the user.
Two of the form fields are text boxes of type="file". When I try to output the value of
these filenames to the text boxes they don't appear.
I have tried outputting these in a normal text box and they output fine so it is obviously
a restriction when outputing to file type text boxes.

I am currently having problem with parsing .asp files when I tried to type http://localhost/iisstart.asp file with my new IIS local server.f I tried to open .html with my localhost server.. it is working properly, example: http://www.localhost/postinfo.html
I suspect it could be because of my firewall or the way I setup my IIS local webserver was inappropriate.
Does anyone know about setting up IIS on WinXP? I have it installed but when I try to use it, it asks for a username and password, and I dont know what the username and passwords are. Any ideas on how to fix this?

I am making a small ASP script to track users from an email marketing campaign. Basically the email is sent to subscribers, then when they click on an offer they are sent to a third party provider. Right now we can track how many users open the email, and how many visit the site, but we would like to track conversions.
The third party will only provide stats via referer. Is there an easy way in ASP to set a referer to a custom url during the redirection?
