Our company has an intranet paging website. It gets all the contact and
group addresses from SQL Server database. The paging is done through
WCTP.
It works properly except for only one group where it asks for username
and passord when the user tries to send a page and does it
successfully. But before I view the status of the page it asks me for
username and password. It asks thrice and then give me an error web
page.

I'm on a project for a government application. For a given domain object, there is a report that is pre-generated, converted to PDF, and stored in the database.
The client wants to have a list of these domain objects, each one with a print icon at the end (which is already done).
The problem is when they click on the print icon, a postback is acceptable, but basically they want to hit the database, download the PDF, stream it to the browser, and print it, all without any pop-ups.
In short, other than the blink of a page for a post-back, they want Win App functionality of clicking print, and a PDF printing without any other interaction (downloading the PDF, file-> print, etc).
Since its a PDF, I know this isn't possible with Javascript. I have no experience with ActiveX whatsoever, so I was hoping for advice on whether this was completely impossible, and the level of effort involved.
I think its impossible, but I want to at least say I've done my homework before I tell the consultant that who thinks it can be done.

I just made a simple web site using Frontpage 2003 with a simple MS Accesss
database.
IF I try to open the asp page in a browser by typing
http://localhost/mysite/db.asp it opens just fine
However if I try to opeb it by typing c:/mysite/db.asp I get the following
error message:
The Database Results component on this page is unable to display database
content. The page must have a filename ending in '.asp', and the web must be
hosted on a server that supports Active Server Pages.

I have a server with a Word document and an Access database on it. I
also have an ASP page running on the server. The Word document
contains a mail merge with the Access database. What I want to do is
open the merged Word document from the ASP page when a button is
clicked.
I have tried several things including some scripting that I
found on the internet. This scripting works, however it opens the
merged document on the server instead of on the user's local machine.
I want the Word document to open on the local machine instead.

I have one combo box and GO button on the click of GO button page
submitted and according to selection of one of the option from combo I
want to redirect my page to some new asp page but at the same time in
new window of browser.
I could have achieved this using window.open() of javascript but then
it will serve as pop up and clients requirement is that not to show as
popup window due to many users blocked popups.
Any suggestions, How can I achieve this using response.redirect or any
coding which is not serve as popup window.

(incidentally, the more i look at it, the more i feel i should point out that to be totally sure your SQL statement is correct you should write it like:
INSERT INTO table_name (column1, column2,...)
VALUES (value1, value2,....)
so that you know your info is going to the right column on the table

I have a form that assigns to 2 variables. Now I want to have a button that if clicked sends a different asp page the 2 variables and runs the page. I think I need the new asp page to open in its own window as I want the original form to stay open in the background and the new form generates an Excel file to download rather than opening in the browser.
Could I get an example, preferably in vbscript, of how to do this please? The only sample code I've found so far uses a hyperlink instead of a button and doesn't pass any arguements to the new page.

Sometimes when I have to make a small application that will be hosted in a common ASP hosting, they don't let you install components created in Visual Basic to access SQL Server databases for example.
how would it be the most secure way to avoid putting the connection data and password information to access SQL Server in an .asp page?
Like I said if I create a component through Visual Basic that connects to the database, and instantiate it from an ASP page, it would be safer. but what happens when I don't have access to install components in the server?

I have a client who wants to password protect a learning course that is set up in modules. Each module needs to have it's own password protection so users can only access them as they progress through the course.
Each user should have their own password (for each module) and, said client would like the password to expire for the user at some (predetermined?) point. Is this possible? It seems like a lot (in terms of setup), but I don't know much about password stuff.
If it is possible, can someone give me an overview of how it works (theoretically) or where to find more specific info on setting something like this up (in ASP.net)
If it isn't possible, can someone suggest what is more reasonable in terms of protecting the modules?

I need to read a SQL Server table into a Web Page and within the Web
Page to permit my users to make changes to the records, delete or add
new records and then save the entire contents back to the SQL Server
table back.
The functionality I am looking is almost the same as In the SQL
Enterprise Manager whereby I can choose a table open the table and
then return all rows and I can maintain the same and save it back to
the SQL Server table. I want almost a similar web interface to such a
functionality.
Even if not a generic functionality as the SQL Enterprise Manager
table maintenance appreciate if somebody can share the code with a
sample how I can do it in ASP pages + T-SQL if need be.

I'm developing a Web App using C#. I want a page in the app to refer to
another page in the app. I tried to create a web request with the page
address below:
pageAddress = "http://~/clientDBQuery.aspx";
WebRequest request = WebRequest.Create (pageAddress);
and got the following error:
Exception Details: System.UriFormatException: Invalid URI: The hostname
could not be parsed.
What is the syntax for referring to a page on the current site so I don't
have to change it when it's published?
When I used the following page address:
pageAddress = "http://clientDBQuery.aspx";
I didn't get the parsing error but the debugger didn't stop on a break point
I set in the LoadPage method. This seems to occurr because it goes to a page
on my ISP which doesn't exist.
What's the right way to handle this situation?

I have a server page that has served an HTML page with a "Cancel" button on it, BUT this server page has not completed and is running a 15-30 second process before it completes. I want the browser user to be able to terminate the page before the server process has finished.
What I tried was an onClick event that issue a "location.href..." in hopes that this would load this referenced page, etc. but I have found that the browser waits until the server process had compled before executing the "location.href". is there some way that I can "signal" the server to stop processing so that I can go to the "location.href" page; or is there some other way?

I have a set of ASP pages. The pages are hosted on IIS as a seperate application with their own global.asa. I have another web server (custom made by our development team) running on another port (say 6550) on the same machine where IIS is running. This web server is running inside a Win32/MFC DLL. I am looking for a way to achieve the following.
1. A user opens one of the ASP pages hosted on IIS in his browser.
2. On the server side IIS starts processing the ASP script.
3. The ASP script needs to pass the query string parameters to my DLL. My DLL will perform some operations and change some internal data values and will inform the ASP script about the success or failure.
4. The ASP script will send a response back to the user browser depending on the success or failure value returned from the DLL. It would most probably redirect the user browser (Response.Redirect) to another ASP page.
I am concerned about how to talk to my DLL. I have two options in my mind.
1. I can create an ActiveX. ASP script will create an instance of the ActiveX which will talk to my DLL by calling the appropriate functions and return the success or failure value to ASP script.
2. I can somehow call the custom web server (which is running inside my DLL) from inside the ASP script, passing it the query string parameters via a URL.
Because the web server is running inside my DLL, it can perform same operations and can change same values which I can perform and change using the DLL interface functions. And then my custom web server can return the success or failure value to the ASP script.
Option 1 is clear to me. I want to know whether option 2 is possible or not. Can I call my custom web server from the ASP script such that the ASP script does not use Response.Redirect?
Can the ASP script call a URL pointing to my custom web server, wait for my web server to do its processing and return the success or failure to the ASP script, and then redirect the user browser to another page depending on the success or failure value returned from my web server?

I'd like to write a bunch of queries from a SQL Server 2000 database in my ASP page and have a way of copying this information into an excel workbook in specific cells. Writing the queries isn't the problem, I just need to place it in a file in different specific cells.
Is there a way to do this? Do you have to use VBA code or something? the *.iqy technique isn't going to work, cause I have to place the data in a sepcific excel file, in sepcific cells. I am not sure how to do this or if it's possibly, if anyone has any
ideas on where to start or find some sample code I'd REALLY appreciate it.

What happens is the data is inserted into the page, but

if we uncheck show friendly http errors in IE there is
still no more info to go on.

I have an application that returns a PDF document to the browser (not as a
download). The document is returned in a new window. This works fine in
most installations, but I have one installation where it doesn't work in IE,
but does work in Netscape. At the installation where it doesn't work IE
returns the file download dialog box instead of just opening the file. When
I click open or save it complains that it can't find the file. I suspect
the problem is with the file name.
IE is generating a very long file and
I'm guessing it is getting confused. My code did not originally set the
file name, so I'm trying to solve the problem by setting the file name.
Here's the code that I'm using, but it doesn't seem to have any affect.
Does anyone see why this doesn't work? objHttpConn is an HTTP control that
is used to retrieve the PDF document.
PS We are hosting the web sites where it does work and were it doesn't work
and I'm testing using my PC. The only difference is the version of the
application that returns the PDF document. All the machines are 2000
servers with IE 6.0 SP1. Code:
