How can I make sure that it adds all of the records to the table before I make Added = "True" It is strange, but sometimes, it won't add a record at all and then proceed to Added="True" How can I make sure that rs.Update was successful? Code:

A few months ago, when I did an update from the windows update, a few of the 'necessary' updates had this like:
microsoft net framework, MSXML, iis, asp. What are they and are they really necessary? There are a few more weird things that I have never seen previously, and if they really are not necessary, I would really like to remove them, if possible.

I'm a designer by trade but the company I work for does asp via the built in Dreamweaver stuff. I've ran into this problem before and now twice this week. I can't remember how ai fixed it first time and actually think it was just down to luck rather than knowledge.
I can retrieve the data out of the database table and delete it but when I try to add it from the admin form or modify it (i'm passing the variale fine as its fills the form in with all the relevant values) the page refreshes without adding the content or modifying the content. As I say I'm not writing the code but generating it via dreamweaver so don't really understand whats wrong.

I have been asked to produce a web form that can be completed with various customer and product details, populated where necessary/possible from a database. This form then needs to be printed as an A4 document.
I have never dealt with printing from ASP before, but I know that simply trying to print a page to an A4 document causes you to end up with numerous bits of paper, most with almost nothing on.
I also need to ensure that the URL and other details that are apparent if you directly print from a browser are not there.

I have a new computer that I have iis 5 installed on win xp. I am trying to
run a simple one line asp test file in my wwwroot directory.
In IE 6 it says: HTTP 500 - Internal server error
Internet Explorer
In Netscape 6 it says "Class does not exist."
In my application event viewer, there are no entries from "Active Server
Pages", like I"m used to seeing in my other computers. Usually this entry
says "Service Started" or "Service Stopped". So apparently the asp service
is not running. I thought that uninstalling and reinstalling IIS would fix
it, but not luck.

I am adding simple records to a fairly simple access database with the following code
rsEntry.Fields("Player1") = ShortName(Player1)
rsEntry.Fields("Player2") = ShortName(Player2)
'Write the updated recordset to the database
rsEntry.Update
rsEntry.Close
adoCon.Close
Set rsEntry = Nothing
Set adoCon = Nothing
How can I SIMPLY :-) prevent duplicate records from being added? I know I can set the index property on the fields but that mean handling the errors - not sure how to do this.
OR I could write the code to seach the DB before update - which may be the only way :-(
Is there a simple way?

I have web forms that frequently expire because users have them up for more than the default 20-minutes without interacting with them. So, I changed the timeout in IIS to 7200 seconds (2 hours, of course) and added a Session.Timeout = 120 to the pages in question. (Am I right that Session.Timeout is in minutes?)
Still, however, the pages seem to be timing-out well in advance of the 2-hour threshold. Have I left something out?
I've skirted around the issue by putting the forms into a framepage and setting a blank frame to refresh every 10 minutes, but I'm not fond of that solution. Plus, I'm just curious why the Session.Timeout setting or IIS timeout setting does not seem to work as advertising (allowing for the fact that I may just be a moron and missed a step).

I have some code that checks security permissions in a DB, and before my conditional statement that checks these permissions, I am writing out both values to see what the statement looks likebefore it is evaluated.
The problem is, it seems to disregard the condition and always returns True, even if the condition should be false...any ideas? I also did some testing to assure that the length of the two values I am comparing is 1, just in case they were possibly holding spaces, and I verified they are numeric as well. I am just stumped here...
Let me also preface this code snippet by saying, I am using this asp script to generate javascript menu choices...and I did include some commented debug statements so I can see what the javascript rendered.. Code:

I am performing a post from one classic ASP page to another in order to get the value of a string passed between the two pages. I have a client script variable declared to take the value of the value being received in the page i.e. var x = '<%=varName%>'. Unfortunately, ASP seems to be adding a carriage return to the value of varName when it
is passed in i.e. it expands the stated line to var x = 'FieldContents';. I.e. somewhere a carriage return has been added. The string gets passed in OK if I use the Get mechanism. Don't know why this carriage return is being added when using Post mechanism. Anybody seen this before? Is it a bug in ASP ?

I have a form that is being sent using CDONTS. The problem is the form I'm sending has a lot of special characters (it's in Spanish) and while I know how to get the chars to display correctly on the page, they're not showing up correctly in the email.
They either show up like this:
Country : Canad;
or if I encode them, like this:
Country : Canadá
How can I get the email to display the correct character
Country : Canadá
I'm fairly new to ASP (I'm a PHP programmer) and have no clue how to do it.
I've noticed that the email is not set to encode in any special way like the equivalent for PHP......

I have Windows 2000 Server. Running IIS 5. I created a ASP file that connects to a database and when i go to view it, It either says that there is a error in the code on like 106.
Which is only an "End If" command, Or it will say that this page needs to be posted on a web server that supports ASP. Well.. I have indexing service running, And I know for a fact that the code in the page is correct because it works on other 2000 server.

I have a webapp. that holds a lot of documents. Some of the documents needs to be produced from a database on-the-fly, some are static documents like PDF, Word documents, etc... In the end, a user can do a request to produce a large amount of documents as one huge PDF document. Today the creation of documents is working, but all code is done in ASP.
In Visual Basic, I was thinking about making an ActiveX EXE server that generates the PDF document. The ASP page will be polling until the file is generated. When this is done, the file will be displayed. I have only written down my thoughts on the subject. Is there a good way to do this?

is it possible to do a insert, add, and a redirect all on the same page?
for example... signup.asp. there's a text box labeled Acctid. If you don't have an acctid please enter "0000" otherwise enter one. This box is used to see if they have an existing account in the database by using an UPDATE query and if they don't it does an INSERT query with acctid = 0000 for all non customers. What I want the if.then.else statement to do is to
If acctid = "0000" then
conn.execute acct_add
(and if sucessful to response.redirect "/yay.asp"
Else if NOT acctid = "0000" then
conn.execute acct_update
(but I want it to return an error if the update wasn't sucessful either because the acount doesn't exist or watever and if the update was sucessful to response.redirect "/yay.asp") END IF
Do ya get it?
