Optimizing Code On ASP Page

We have a report page which deals with more than 3000 records and 80 columns. The records are displayed on a third party control VS flexgrid versioned 7.0.

Currently we are having a client side array populated from the server side using response.write . Is there any other means to optimize the performance on this page?

Optimizing Multidimensional Array Code

I have a multidimensional array that is actually 1 dimension (it comes from a recordset.getrows that returns 1 column). My goal is to put every single line of the recordset in a textfile. currently, here is my code Code:

for i = 0 to UBound(Res,2)
fileContent = fileContent & res(0,i))
Next
createTxtFile(path,fileContent)

I have 5000 lines and it takes about 10 minutes. I was thinking of doing a Array.Join but I don't think that works with multidimentional array. Also thinking of converting my useless multidimentional array into a sing dimensional array but how?

Optimizing Asp Database Calls

I'm very interested in finding out what ways you experts out there have made your data dips more efficient in your asp (not asp.net) code.

I have a wizard-type application that dips into the database with each page, I know there's a better way to do this out there, just pressed for time and can't think right now.

Optimizing - Large Db Result Set

when creating a webpage that must display a large result set, the page load time is unbearable. Unfortunately, there are a lot of records and they all need to be displayed, at once, on this one page.

To reduce file size, I have minimized the amount of HTML tags used to dislay these records. My only other idea is to write javascript matrix to hold the data, and then to use dom to create the page on the client side. Are there any tried and true ways of speeding up page loads?

SQL Server Code From An ASP Page

I'd like to write a bunch of queries from a SQL Server 2000 database in my ASP page and have a way of copying this information into an excel workbook in specific cells. Writing the queries isn't the problem, I just need to place it in a file in different specific cells.

Is there a way to do this? Do you have to use VBA code or something? the *.iqy technique isn't going to work, cause I have to place the data in a sepcific excel file, in sepcific cells. I am not sure how to do this or if it's possibly, if anyone has any
ideas on where to start or find some sample code I'd REALLY appreciate it.

Calling Code Into Page

I am trying to call a field value from my database - which gets open in an included file (all work on database must be done in that included file), if i use response.write(rst("pagename") it would print fine in the page when I call the sub i.e <% call pageNameFind() %>

But i want to get the field value to appear like this <% PageTitle = pagename %> where pagename comes from the included sub pageNameFind pagename = rst("pagename")

It doesn't pick this up however - how would I do this? This value will then be sent on to another included file at later stage. and I must have the <% PageTitle = myvalue %>.

Browser Displays Code Of ASP Page

The most pressing issue at the moment is that my browser does not display the page; it displays the ASP code. I built the page for a questionnaire that was going to be placed on my schools server so that participants could access it online, but I submitted my request too late in the semester.

I decided that the best course of action was to collect these data offline using the computers that I had bought for my lab. The laptops are running Windows 2000 Professional and are using IIS. After configuring ISS and Dreamweaver MX, I built the questionnaire. Then, I uploaded the questionnaire to the “server”—the wwwroot folder.

Now, the index page (the instructions to the questionnaire) opens flawlessly, but when the link to the questionnaire is pressed to open the ASP page, the browser displays the code and not the questionnaire itself.

When I explained this problem to people, they tell me that my server does not support server site scripting, but I’m using a Windows machine, using Windows server software, and Windows database software (Access 2000). Moreover, when I preview the page through Dreamweaver MX, Internet Explorer displays it without a problem. Code:

Correct HTTP Response Status Code On "Access Denied" Page.

I have a password-protected area on my site. I'm not using any server
authentication methods: Instead I prompt the user for a username and
password using an HTML form and check these against a database of
registered users.

I was thinking that this page should be returning a HTTP status code of
"401 Unauthorized" instead of its current "200 OK". My reasoning being
that this would let search engines know what's going on when they
request a protected page and get redirected to the "Access Denied"
page.

I experimented with adding response.status = "401 Unauthorized" to the
"denied" page, but now it displays a (Windows/IE) username & password
prompt instead. The HTTP sniffer shows that the www-authenticate field
is set to "Basic".

My question: How can I indicate to the search engines that the page it
is requesting requires authentication, yet have it not display the
login/password dialog box?

An ActiveX Control On This Page Might Be Unsafe To Interact With Other Parts Of The Page ...

I have an ActiveX control in my ASP page that has not been signed yet, so currently just for testing I set the Security for Intranet to "Low". When I run the ASP page on my machine (the IIS is in my machine), I have no problem, except the page prompted me with "An ActiveX control on this page might be unsafe to interact with other parts of the page. Do you want to allow this interaction?"

But, when I run the ASP page on another machine (even though the other machine is also a development machine that already has the ActiveX control and I set the Security for Intranet to "Low"), it did not prompt me the above message, and I got an error when accesing any method of the AX control (e.g Object doesn't support this property or method 'myAXControl.method').

Is this because I have to create a CAB file and mark the AX control as safe for scripting ?To create a CAB file for this AX control, do I need to create my own VB AX
Control project that contains this control and then create a cab file for this VB project ?

Differentiate Page Requested Versus Page Refresh

I tried using

<!--Application_Result.asp refreshed itself(such as user clicks on the

<%end if%>

Attempting To Write Create An ASP Page FROM An ASP Page.

One line simply writes a close ASP code tag, or

When this line processed, an error occurs saying that the string was
never terminated because the asp page attempting to write this line of
code to a NEW asp page reads that close ASP tag (%>), as an actual
close asp tag for itself, instead of a STRING value.

How do I write this %> symbol to a new asp file, while still
maintaining its purpose to close a group of asp code in the newly
