I have a page that used to use <!--#include to display a menu but now uses server.execute so that the code can specify which file is used for the menu. However there is another varible involved (section) which needs to be passed to the file being executed. This used to work with <!--#include but now doesnt. How do I make sure that the varible goes to the menu file?
[code]
dim section
dim pageid
section = request.querystring("section")
pageid = request.querystring("pageid")
Server.Execute(pageid & "/menu.asp")

I have a databse I am pulling news from and evetyhing is working fine.I made a asp script to generate a XML page, my issue is if any of the feilds have invalid strings for XML
ie & <>
It will break and will not output a proper XML page.Is there a way to convert a string into a valid XML string, I know in PHP there was a HTML encode, but will that encoding type be safe still with XML output?All I see are examples to load files and convert their text into XML safe strings, I just want to convert strings on the fly without loading external files.

What I want to do is pass a Field value directly from the URL to the webpage content, but it's getting stuck and sometimes no values get passed? For eg:
Suppose my site is www.mysite.com/member.asp?id=25
I want the 25 to be placed somewhere on the member.asp page when the above url is hit.
I have tried <% =id %>
I have also tried <% =Request.Form("id") %>

I have a listfield that displays a list of 'Themes' stored in a database. The listfield's lable is Themenames and it's value is UniqueThemeID. The page that i'm designing allows the user to add or remove Themes to this list which updates the database.
When the user adds a theme i can use the UniqueThemeID (which is passed when the form is submitted) to display a page saying that "The theme *Themename* has been added to the database". My problem is that i cant do this when the user wants to delete the theme beacuse the UniqueThemeID no longer exists in the database.
So somehow i need to pass the listfields selected lable, maybe with a hidden field of something, but i'm stummped as how i can do this. Does anyone have any solutions. I sure other people must have had this problem in the past, but i cant find anything on it.

I have an asp page that allows cdont mailing of form field values to persons matching slected criterea in their profile.
Works good if the user goes straight from the form to the email-making asp.
Then the user asked for a proofreading screen and what seemed simple took a bad turn.
When I try to pass from the proof reading screen to the asp that actually sends the email I only get the first word. as soon as a blank is encountered in the text it thinks it it done. Code:

I am using a Relational database for my site and i have the following tables:
FIXTURES, GAMEDATES
the fields in FIXTURES are:
GameDate
Home
Away
(All of the above are numerical fields)
the fields in GAMEDATES are:
DateID(integer)
GameDate(#Date Field#)
What i have done is in the GAMEDATE field in the FIXTURES table i have used the ID number of the date that i wish to assign to that record - using a LEFT JOIN to display the actual date that is pulled from the GAMEDATES table (That which corresponds to the relevant id used in Fixtures)
The problem is that in some of my code i want to display records using sql and sometimes in the where clause i use the following:
WHERE Fixtures.GameDate<=(Date())
obviously meaning WHERE GAMEDATE is LESS THAN or EQUAL to TODAY.
The thing is when i use the join it does not use the where clause and displays all of the records in the FIXTURES table.
Does any one know how to get around this, i have not received any error messages it just isnt displaying the right data

Im comparing values in a field while doing a loop if sAct<>myData(5,i) then At the end of the loop I make the value of sAct equal the current myData
This will work when comparing other fields withing my recordset (so I know the statement works) but it will not work for the field I want to compare. The only difference with this field is that it has null values. Could this be the problem? if so, how do I deal with nulls?

I have a input form with 5 fields. One of the fields is MajorNo and the other is named Description.
I have a reference table in my MS Access database (tblMajor)that lists the major numbers and their descriptions.
I would like to have the description field in my ASP automatically filled based on the major number entered on the form, so the user will only need to input the major number when submitting to the Access table (tblSalesTotal).

I am trying to pass a hidden field value on a form into another field on the
form so that it can then be inserted in the database, to enable me then to

(The hidden value (1 for example) would then automatically get passed to the
other input field.)
The code for the text field that allows users to type an number into it for
submission to the db is below, but what code do i need within the hidden
field to populate this text field below so that users do not have to type the
number in? Code:

I am creating a simple news WAP site which uses a database. The database consists of three columns, storyid, storyheadline and story. The first page outputs the storyheadlines. When the user clicks on the headlines, they are taken to another page. The storyid is passed through the url (stored as storyno) and the next page loads the story which matches the headline. So basically, I need to know how to correct this:
SQL = "SELECT * FROM gmscwapstories WHERE storyid = <% Request.QueryString("storyno") %>"
This doesnt seem to be working.

In the member record update section of the admin, i have the url, as it leads on from the chosen members id....eg...www.xxxx.com?id=2.......like that. But where the user updates their profile, it has nothing to send data from...eg...a form/recordset. Could this be done by storing it in a cookie or something?

Is there a code, or something that scrambles the value being passed fromone asp page to another??
what I mean is this:
if i want to pass a value from a database (record id #721) from my page records.asp to recordview.asp
it might appear like this in the browser window, or when u highlight the link on records.asp:
recordsview.asp?K=751
I don't want users to see exactly what record number is being access... so I'd like it to show some garbage in the browser like
recordsview.asp?@$@#$=DSFSD+jklsjkld
you get my drift...

I am trying to write a search application which will allow a database holding a text to be searched.
To search the text the user has to select the act, the scene, the character
Right this is where it gets tricky!
The acts all have different scenes and the scenes all have different characters - so rather than try and attempt a very complicated linked combo box for the act, scene and character I figured a more sensible way of doing it would be to have the user enter the act they want to search on one page. The value of this would then be passed by form to the next page (to get the scene).
Based on the act selected a dropdown box is then populated with all the scenes for that particular act. Following on from this I then want to pass the scene selected together with the act selected on the previous page to the next page which will get the character. I can get the scene value passed through to the character page but not the act value as this is now a server side variable. Basically what I want to end up with is after the user has selected the character on the third page, I want to be able to use all this information to build an SQL search statement.
In case you are wondering why I decided to do it in this way, I initially tried the linked combo box method but found that if the user doesn't click the boxes in the correct order it causes problems with updating the box contents. Doing it this way I figured I can force the user to enter the information in the correct order. Code:
