Refresh Button Resubmitting Data - How To Prevent This?
My application is written in .NET (C#) with the inline Edit mode from
DataGrid. When a SAVE button is pressed it will perform a action on the
database either to add, edit or delete data that a user has entered.
When the refresh button is pressed at the top of the page the same
exact data is re-submitted again resulting duplicate transaction in the
database. Is there anyway of stopping this happening? From client-side
script, how can we detect that the "Refresh" button is click?
I have a form which when submitted will validate the fields and then add the record to a database. If a mandatory field is not completed, there is an instruction to return to the form and complete the mandatory fields and then submit.
The problem I have is preventing the user from resubmitting the same form once it has been added to the database. I cannot deactivate the submit button, because if they need to return to complete mandatory fields, the submit button is still required.
I have read the article "Programming Forms To Submit Only Once" from 15seconds.com and this looks exactly what I need......
To prevent the same form from being submitted more than once we must:
Initialize the data structures. Create a mechanism to give each form a unique identification. Find a way to store a list of already submitted forms. When processing a form submit, we just have to check if its ID is on the list.
I am having problems when adding the recommended code to my form and my process form pages.
I have an ASP site that uses frames two frames. (yes I should be using include files, but we started ou using frames so we have been stuck with frames.)
When I get a page expired warning (I am not caching pages) and a user clicks refresh from the menu bar the user is taken back to the home page! The home page is a frame with a top frame that is repeated on each subsequent asp pages
The lower half of the home page is a login screen.
After login the next page is shown in the lower half of the frame. Refreshing within the individual frames is ok.
But when the Refresh from the menu bar is used the home page is returned any ideas why?
Does anyone know of a way to disallow a user to refresh a certain page? I ask because I have a page that duplicates itself when it is refreshed and would prefer to not allow the user to refresh at all.
How can I make it that if the user clicks the back button --- the page will be automatically refreshed form the database (the asp) and not just show what was on the page before they submitted?
I'm writing a math quiz. Every time the page loads, random problems are generated. The student enters the answers in text fields. They submit the form and the answers are checked.
if they were to press the back button, the same page will be there, and the student can fix the wrong answers. Is there an elegant way to force the page to refresh when the student presses the back button?
in our asp, in order to prevent data disppearing problem in form fields,we use session variable to display the field values if a customer click "back" button on the page2.asp in the browser,(the session variables Session(aQuoteName(iPerson)&"TripCost") is set up in the page2.asp) i.e. then in the page1.asp, we use:
to display the tripcost. This works very well in the past all the time. But today, when I do the similar programming, whenever I click "back" button on page2.asp, the data on the page1.asp all disappeared and I have to click "refresh" button on page1.asp in order to display all the session variables.
What's going on, does this have to have something to do with window security patches, I didn't have anything changed in the program or IIS configuration. I also test the production version, same thing happened which it never happend before???
i have a table which has many field, they go across and are named as a1a2a3a4a5a6-a16 the next row will be b1b2b3b4b5b6-b16 the last row is g1g2g3g4g5g6-g16 and so on.
now in the first column i.e which would be a1 b1 c1 d1 e1 f1 g1, the user enters a part number what i want to do is prevent him or her entering the same part no.
twice if this the case the two filds with same part no should be cleared.i.e if user enter p45 in a1 then p45 in d1 then both a1 and d1 should be cleared would be better if the later was only cleared but any method would do. Code:
When form data is submitted to an ASP page using the POST method, it is not visible in the URL, but it is still resubmitted if the user clicks the Refresh button.
This can cause statistical data to be accidentally submitted multiple times, making the results incorrect. I would like like the user to be able to click the Refresh button without resubmitting the form data. Is there some way to "erase" the form data after it is used so that the Refresh button does not resubmit it?
I am doing a drop down list for example list of countries... when i choose one i want it to refresh the page and add new label as another drop down list or input type text and so on till all the information is given then when i submit i want all the information to stored in a databse .... so plz if u know the way will u send me a small example between two drop down lists
and one more question i know that i am asking too much but i want to know "if i could choose in a page an item which has a price and it is hyperlinked to another page which is a form and when i fill it and submit it i want the name of this item which is not included in the form and also the price ... my question is could i do it or not ? and if i can will you show me how .... as i know i might put the name and the price of this item in a hidden input and then when the form is submitted i send it to the database ..
I figured out how to display data from an Access mdb file using ASP, but my database is continually being updated in real time. The only way for the end user to get the most current data is they have to refresh, or I have to code the html to refresh like every minute, which is really cumbersome, and bloats the logs. Code:
The user will choose either yes or no from the radio button in web page for all the questions.
The data (yes or no) will be store in the database for future information. I try to use the different name for both radio buttons(yes and no) but the function for the radio button doesn't work anymore(the user can check both of the radio button). so, i have to put the same name for both radio buttons.
The problem is, how can i track the data that user key in (whether yes or not) if i put the same name for both radio button??
Besides that, can anyone please tell me where can I get the MSE7.exe program?? This program doesn't exists in my computer in folder office10. The office that i used is microsoft office 2000.
I have a page with 2 frames. The first one has a link that loads a page in the second frame. This page has a button on it. When the button is hit, the page does some processing and loads another page in the same frame (the second).
I use ASP and response.redirect or javascript in the onclick event of the button to do the redirection. When I refresh the page by clicking the button on the browser (IE), the second frame becomes empty. Please note that the src attribute of the frame is not set.
If I set the src attribute of the second frame to some asp page and then navigate to another page inside the same frame, when I refresh the page, the initial asp page is loaded in the frame regardless of the asp page currently loaded into the frame.
It seems that when you refresh the page, the frames are reinitialized no matter what pages are currently loaded in the frames.
I solved the problem by redirecting to the main page in the top frame, passing some parameters and resetting the src of the frame to the desired asp page. Thus, when the page is refreshed, all the frames are properly refreshed too.
I have a series a forms that submit data to different tables in a database. As it stands, when a user completes FORM 1 and clicks the SUBMIT button, the FORM 1 data is submitted (action = form2.asp, method = post) to ASP code at the top of FORM 2 (request.form("form1 field name") etc...), and submitted to the database with SQL code, also at the top of FORM 2(INSERT into...). Hence the submit button on FORM 1 directs the user to FORM 2, and submits the data which is exaclty what I wanted. However, I now need the users to submit multiple sets of data with FORM 1, and direct them to FORM 2 once they have finished using FORM 1. Most importantly, I need to pass a few parameters from FORM 1 to FORM 2, and have these parameters submitted to the database.
My main problem is getting a fresh form1 after submiting the same form1, in preparation for anoter set of data using the same form. Basically, the database has 'one to many' relationship tables. Form1 and form2 are both populating the 'many' tables, so that each form needs to be filled-in several times while retaining the key field of the 'one' table. At the moment submiting form1 takes me to form2. Is is possible to submit the data to the database, get form1 back again to submit more data, as many times as required, then click another button to load form2 when the user is finished with form1?
Can anyone please give me some pointers? or at least explain the concept of what I need to do. I am a novice and it's taking me a while to get to this stage. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Is it possible to post FORM1 to itself and insert the data (i.e. place the request.form at the top of FORM 1) If so, how do I direct users to FORM 2 while retaining my parameters?
Imagine an asp-script that retrieves data from a database and returns an HTML with table of the retrieved data, allowing user to edit some values and delete rows. The issue occurred after deleting a row. Lets say the initial table was: Code:
I want to understand the difference between submit button and regular button: <input type="submit"> and <input type="button">. My understanding is that submit button will send the entire HTML form to the web server, but regular button won't.
I have a problem that needs to pass HTML elements data back and forth in several ASP pages. I am using regular button to do that. But what's the approaches?
I am a webdesigner. We have recently taken over a site created in ASP. The site remains on the original server, but my company does the updates on the site.I do not touch the ASP at all, as I not familiar with it other then I know ASP automatically becomes html when you view it from the browser and u can save the file from there.Anyways, I edit the pages as required, new text, new photos, new links, and create new pages (any new pages I create in html if not tied to the database). I save the pages with a .asp extension and upload. This does not seem to mess anything up. The person who hosts the site, is upset that someone else is editing the site, so he's really not easy to work with. Anyways, after uploading files, everything works fine, and then a day later, all of a sudden, any .ASP pgs you click on give the following error or similar pasted below. What I'd like to know is if these errors are because of me..and if so, how do I prevent it.
I've got an intranet application that presents a list of files in sort of a 'central repository' web page. Each file is an href in the form <a href=file://server/share/path/filename.ext>.
When the user clicks on an excel file,it is opening within the browser, which unforntuntely confuses the heck out of them because the usual Print/Print Preview menu options are not available. I would like the user to be presented with the typical Open/Save dialog when clicking on this link.
Is there any way that I can force the browser to do the same thing as 'Save Target As', without modifying the user mime configuration in IE (another common suggestion), or hosting the files on the web server?
i have a form by asp and database by MS access.so i want to prevent the duplicate value in empID because when i add a new employee with the same id ASP gives me this error.
Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80040E14) [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The changes you requested to the table were not successful because they would create duplicate values in the index, primary key, or relationship. Change the data in the field or fields that contain duplicate data, remove the index, or redefine the index to permit duplicate entries and try again. /employee/admin/addemp1.asp, line 48
so i want the employee to get a message like this empID already exist or somthing like this.
If you look around on the web for advice on cache-control and using 'Option Explicit' you get a paradox. Both features are supposed to be the first piece of ASP code on the page. Well they can't BOTH be first can they?
What would the logic be to prevent flooding? On my forum they have a timer, so if the user has submitted a post, it starts the timer, and after 30 seconds it will allow him to post again.
When the user comments, record the date in a session (StartTime) and when the user tries again, DateDiff in seconds to see if the Now() time is more than 30 seconds after the StartTime. If it is, clear the session.
i tried to open Window B using window.open() from Main Window. And from Window B i open another new Window C which fires up session("topic")="something"
So i tried to open another window link from Main Window, and the session("topic") value is still the same. how can i overcome it? Beacuse im using same session("Topic") var for all the sql query statement. so if 1 window is opening and another different session window start, it will overwrite it each other.
How can you prevent the database error from displaying on screen? Can you redirect users to a more friendly error screen that is custom created. Using ASP/SQL Server. For instance, if the database cannot be found, instead of displaying,
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied. /myConn.asp, line 7
Can you make it to where you could display something like this:
"I'm sorry, a database error has occured, please try your request later, click hyperlink for list of possibilities."
Currently i am doing a file management project where user are able to create folder and upload files to it. The file ownner would be able to set permission (from database linking to the file path) if a user able to download it or not.
*each file info will be stored into a table e.g. fileid, filename, path, access.
Now i am facing a problem where if a user does not have permission to click on the link to download, the user can guess the path and the file name and directly type the path on the address bar to download the file.
This may not be possible on the server side, so apologies if this is the wrong group for this post.My form consists of an unknown number of pairs of text boxes. They are named textbox_a and textbox_b. I then split the comma separated list that gets posted:
textbox_a = split(Request.Form("textbox_a"),",") for i = ubound(textbox_a) ...insert into db
then do the same for textbox_b
If anyone puts a comma into one of the text boxes, this will result in unmatched pairs. How can I deal with the comma, or prevent it?
