Addition

I am trying to add the values of a form. The results keep getting treated as a string and not an integer. So with :

theForm1 = Request.Form("number1")
theForm2= Request.Form("number2")
thetotal = theForm1 + theForm2
Response.Write(thetotal)

If the value of theForm1 is 4 and the value of theForm2 is 5, thetotal is 45, instead of 9.

How To Do Addition Using 2 RS Values?

The problem i am having is adding 2 rs values to each other to come up with an amount.

so i have something like the following:

sql1 = "select sum(col1 + col2 + col3) as result1 from table where col4 = "y" "
set RS1 = Conn.Execute(SQL1)
pastdue1 = formatnumber(rs1("result2"))

sql2 = "select sum(col1 + col2 + col3) as result2 from table2 where col4 = "y" "
set RS2 = Conn.Execute(SQL1)
pastdue2 = formatnumber(rs2("result2"))

pastduefinal = (pastdue1 + pastdue2)

But when i do a response.write (pastduefinal) i get "0.000.00"
Does anyone have any idea? I replaced the formatnumber with formatcurrency but still didnt work. Am I using the addition incorrect?

1 Plus 1 = 1? Holding Variable For Addition

I presume it simply does not hold the variables?

On selection (could just as easily be a text field) I want to do two thing.

1) See how many times the script is run, after 5 attempts go to next page.

2) When a number is selected/typed in it should be added to the previous number

Basically I want to stop the page at either a number of loops if it reaches 5 or when the total summing of numbers equals say 4. Code:

Radio Buttons And Addition

I have 2 radio buttons, Yes and No. I have a text box with a value entered by the user. If the user selects the Yes radio button, I need to add 339 to the value they entered. They will submit the form to add the value...but the problem I am getting is, it keeps adding 339 more than once. If there is also a way...where they select yes and submit and go back to no...to set the value back to the value they entered.

How can I add 339 to a value the user entered without continuing to add 339 if the form is submitted multiple times?

Addition (Sum) Of Column Data

I am trying to build the code that will add a specific column's column where something = something

Example

ID Name Amount
1 Bill 10.00
3 Ted 15.00
1 Bill 25.00
1 Bill 35.00
4 Jude 5.00

In basic word terms, this will describe what I am seeking:

SUM(amount column where ID = 1) ..... answer would be 70.00

I am already connected to the database and can pull out one specific field in a column, just can not add that column.

Request.BinaryRead :: Request Object Error 'ASP 0104 : 80004005'

Why does the error below occur whenever the statement Request.BinaryRead Request.TotalBytes) is executed for uploads larger than 100K? I thought the 100K limit applied only to Request.Form. This does not occur with smaller uploads. This is running on an IIS 6 server with full FP2002 extensions.

COM Objects?

I'm so glad i finally found a web development forum! It's been a while and it's not easy to find. Until someone recommended this site to me.

Enough about that... I really want to learn about COM objects and don't really know where to go to find out about such things.

If someone could direct me to the right place, i'd be extremely grateful.

I've already learned ASP and PHP (though i have to admit that i am not an expert and I don't think i'll ever be one), but i aim to be a "jack of all trades".

Different Objects For ObjCDO. ?

I've created a simple pop-up form that

works, and it's fine, but I'd like to spruce it up a little so I can
make it more personalized. Can I add other objects? I've been
searching for a general reference online that lists all my choices for
ObjCDO, but can't find anything, and any ideas of my own ("FirstName",
"Comments", etc.) have been shot down as not being supported.

Destroying All Asp Objects

I have a website with a large collection of pages. Many of these dynamic pages use multiple objects created via the Server.CreateObject method. There are filesystem objects, recordsets, browsertype objects, you name it. I need a script that will loop through all of the objects and Set them = Nothing to destroy them.

I imagine the script would be somewhat like this.

For Each obj In ServerObjects
If IsObject(obj) Then
Set obj = Nothing
End If

Storing Objects

I've read that you shouldn't store objects in Session variables.
I've read these reasons:
- The object takes up memory that may not be freed until the session times
out. Better to create the object only when you actually use it.
- Causes poor performance because the thread that created the object has to
service all requests for it.
Assuming I can live with the memory and performance implications (a big if,
but let's assume it for a minute), what other reasons are there?

Import Objects In Asp?

I have a problem with including an object in my asp page. Ive translated an algoritm I found that was written in javascript and it needs a method, floor(), from System.Math to work.

in javascript you can just write Math.floor(x+1) but it seems asp doesnt automatically include that Math object. Its a little weird since the method Round() can be used withour any includes of any kind and thats a part of the Math object!

So... How do I do to access this floor() method?

I tried to write:

<%Imports System.Math %>

but it doesnt seem to do the trick.

Objects Vs. Classic

I have scripts on a server that awhile back had new option/server packs installed (to accomodate security and net framework issues) and my classic asp date references
"Date()" and "Now" will sometimes flip flop the formatting of the date from 10/3/2003 to 3/10/2003 (european mode).

What would be a good way to use an include file to perhaps an asp.net date object, or where would I find a good reference to using an aspx file to calculate and display the date properly so that I can avoid this flip flop snafu of the date formatting.
