SQL/VBscript - Modifying Design Of Tables From Within ASP Page
i'm wondering if it's possible to modify the design of an sql database from within a script. I don't have MS SQL installed on my machine but i need to add a few fields to some of the tables.
I know it's possible to create and drop tables so that is one option. ie: drop the existing one and create it again with the extra fields. the problem with that way is I'll lose all the data. so long story short. how do i modify the design of a table from within a vbscript?

We have a cart we built using sessions, it has been fine until now where our server times out at 20 mins no matter what we or the server techs do, so now we want to redesign the cart using tables soley, can this be done?
If so is there any disadvanages of doing this? Anyone know of a tutorial to do this so we can get started?

I am trying to list data from the DB from three different tables. The first table is creditors, the second is statements and the third is payments. I don't know much about inner joins and I'm not even sure that's what I need to do. The first section on the page is detailed information about the creditor.
Below that is a section for a summary of all statements from that creditor. Below the statements section is a section for listing payments from that creditor. The 'creditors' table has a field of "credID" as well as the tables "statements" and "payments".
The "statements" table has a "StatementID" field and the "payments" table has a field of payID. What is the best way to list the statements and payments from a particular creditor?

I've been building an ASP app that sits on top of a relational database (MS Access). The problem is that the data from some web forms need to be stored in different tables. Currently I am using multiple SQL Insert statements.
The problem with this approach is that it is possible that several inserts would succeed and then one would fail. This would ruin my database. Is there some way to synchronize the Insert commands or to "flush" the commands at the same time? I need the Insert statements to either all succeed or all fail.

I have one ASP page that has two separate FORMS, each that will update a separate SQL table. These tables are in the same DB with the same connection string for both.
The SQL statement seems to be writing correctly (when I test them) but neither of the tables updates when I try to update both of them. IF I try to update just ONE of the tables it does work correctly. Code:

this code checks if the file is present in the server quotes or not ,it works with in the server but not in the client(it cannot fine the sever. but if i remove the if statement then if the file is present it connects from the client.

I am trying to execute some script on my server that is currently run on an ASP page.
However, I am finding that it can often take up to 5-10 minutes to run and the user is not needed for this execution anyway. What I am attempting to do is write the script into a .vbs file on the server and execute the script when necessary.
I would like this script to run without the user knowing and therefore I do not want the asp page to wait for a return from the script. I am trying to use:
Set WshShell = Server.CreateObject("WScript.Shell")
ReturnVariable = WshShell.Run("c:connorVBScript1.vbs", 0, FALSE)
The FALSE tells the system to run the code and not wait for a return. The webpage seems to run and returns to the user as it should but the script is not executed.
Anyone have any ideas?

I have been searching for a solution to a permissions problem:
Currently, I have an app that creates an html file in a folder on the web server, closes the file, opens it again and dumps the contents into an HTML-formatted e-mail message. In order to create and open the file, I had to set permissions for anonymous browsers to READ/WRITE.
The app works fine, but this poses a security problem, because the files contain personal data that anyone may intentionally or unintentionally view.
My question is: Is it possible to modify the folder permissions within the ASP app? I'd like to open the folder for READ/WRITE in order to create the file and open it for sending the e-mail and then immediately turn off all permissions for anonymous browsers.

I have data from page 1 that I want to pass to page 2, either in a querystring or a form. I got that part.
Once I'm on page 2, I can retrieve that data with Response.Form or Reponse.Querystring in the vbscript code I have up in the header, but if I write
Document.Form1.Textbox1.value=response.form("passedData"), nothing happens.
So I thought that the code up in the header doesn't "see" the textbox, because as I dimly understand it, the textbox is client-side and the script is server-side. So then I thought I should put the same line down in the html where the form is defined (enclosed in <% tags). But that triggers an error because the code down there doesn't seem to know what response.form is anymore! I tried using a variable as a go-between, but it didn't change the results.
So how in the world do I get my incoming parameter (whether form or query string) to go and live in a textbox in the target page? I need it there (don't I?) so that I can later pass it along to page three (among other reasons).
In short, I can get strings passed from page 1 to page 2, but then page 2 doesn't seem able to put them into controls or pass them along to page 3.
I have scoured google and forums and seen some responses that involve about 30 lines of code (which I don't understand). Surely it can't be that complicated to pass a string from page 1 to page 2 and then have it available to pass along to page 3.

Using the following query I get my desired results. However, in the resulting recordset, how can I show for example 10 words before and 10 words after the keyword or phrase that was searched upon? If I get 20 resulting records I think it would be easier for the user to decide which they want to view.

I have a simple png image file which has a white background and one layer of text. Is there a way in ASP/VB to dynamically change the contents of the text layer? I currently have a sql query that pulls all records based on a variable(var1) inputed by a user from a form. Each record in my database has a time stamp assoicated with it. I want to give the user the option of pulling all records based on (var1) and allow them to sort based on date or time stamp also with a two fields that will take a range.
(ex. Beginning date and Ending date). So my default sql query will allow for var1 to be inserted and to have all records returned for the current day. BUT, IF A USER HAS ENTERED
A DATE RANGE then all records will be returned for that date range based on the var1's value. How could i go about about structuring my code for this? I was thinking about a "Switch" statement that could response to different user options with different sql queries. What do you guys think?

Does anyone have and easy way of modifying the format of a number once pulled from an Access database? In the thread listed above, Access is stripping the 0's in front of my numbers. As a work around I have an If statement that checks to see if the number is < 10 and if so write a 0 before pulling from the recordset. I'm looking for a simpler, one line code instead of the big If statement.

I know that using Word Automation inside an ASP page is no good idea.Anything I want to do in the current project is: open document, change some text, save and close document. Basically changing some variables, consting of a name embraced by special chars, to some value. As for example: change "[FirstName]" to "Michael".
Does anybody know whether there is a way for achieving this with basic "file input / output". Can I regard a Word document as some binary data, perform the replacement, and save the data, without destroying Word's internal structure?

i have absolutely no experience using ASP or PHP, but I've been tasked with making a simple login page for certain clients. I found this tutorial which is almost what i'm looking for.
The one thing that i need to modify is each username, after login, must be directed to a specific protected page. Since the username and password get split into an array, i know there must be a way to also keep track of which pages are associated with which usernames, and then have that URL be evaluated in this line of code:

At the core of my DB schema is a request table. This entity has one or
more assignment records and each assignment record has one or more
assignment log records. The log tracks assignment actions such as hold,
release, open, close, etc.
In VB, I would normally create Request, Assignment, and AssignmentLog for
the data. I would also create two custom collections for Assignments and
AssignmentLogs. Given any Request ID, I could populate everything else
with encapsulated queries and recordsets. The request object could
implement properties to give the currently assigned helper, open state,
elapsed time, etc.
My question to you is; how to I implement this model for the Web? As I
understand it, web objects are stateless. If my request object can't
persist its data in memory, then does it have to fire a query every time
the caller wants a property value? Will I always have to pass the
RequestID in as a parameter?
