Scheduled Job

Just rand across this article:

http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2143, which led to this article on using a
SQL Server job: http://www.aspfaq.com/show.asp?id=2403

Here's my question: I have an intranet app which tracks tickets for tech
support. The boss wants it so that, depending on the severity of the ticket,
we go into the DB and check every 15 minutes or so to see if the ticket is
being handled. If no activity is detected in an accepted amount of time,
then an email gets sent automatically to certain managers,
The first article cited above gives 4 options, and the last two aren't
possibilities in my case. I'm leaning toward option 2, which is the SQL
job, but will take advice.

Run Script As Scheduled Job

I want to perform the simple task of running an ASP script as a scheduled job.

Previously I've always either run a .vbs script via windows Scheduler, or put some logic in my global.asa, both of which have worked fine.

Unfortunately there are technical reasons (too complicated to go into here) which mean I can't use either the global.asa or a standalone vbs script for this job. It really does have to be an .asp script running in the application space.

Running a scheduled job that runs the command "explorer http://www.mydomain.com/myscript.asp" does the job, but will leave a new window open every day, which will cause problems when sat on a remote server. (self.close() at the end of the script just gives the "app trying to close window" message and leaves window open)

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to achieve this on a W2K server?

Some kind of opening IE, running script, closing IE via VBS maybe?

Scheduled Trigger Of An ASP Page?

I have access to an ASP based system where a supervisor has to periodically
"press the button" to generate a list based on a database held behind the
webserver. Unfortunately, people being what they are, this is sometimes
forgotten so I'm investigating whether this can be automated.

My hands are tied slightly in that I can access the webpages themselves,
most of which contain ASP, and I can run something on the surpervisor's PC,
for example via "Task Scheduler" to download pages. But what tool should I
use? I can't see any way of triggering Internet Explorer is "automated
mode" to just trigger the page so is there some tool specifically designed
for this job? Code:

Developing Scheduled Script

We wanna develop a SMS and email reminder. The users can set date and time and reminder msg, it can be monthly, daily or weekly. We need to send sms at the scheduled time, so please kindly advise me what is the best method i can do, by creating an ActiveX component in VB or developing dll in ASP or any other best way.

The only thing coming to my mind is there should be some application running continously on the server, by the way do we really need to have one dedicated server? We have to run the script for every 5 or 10 minutes. I think we can do this by task scheduler or with any service, but which will be best for better performance?

Creating A Task

I have a problem. I have a database with 1000 e-mails that i use in my
mailinglist. And when i send them mails it takes kinda long since i attach a
..pdf file each time. so i was wondering if there is a way in asp to create a
task on the webserver using asp to trigger a script that sends the mails.
sure i could use server.scripttimeout but the thing is that i dont want to
wait 30 seconds for the page to finish loading. and if there will be 3000 in
near future i'll have to wait for a very loooooong time.

anyone know how to create a task using asp dynamically?

Approach Task

you have a DB that contains about 2000 records.
Assume that the records are houses with addresses, already known to the user,
[remember, there are rooms, bathrooms fireplaces, garages etc].
What I want is this:
A user enters a known address in the form. The form seaches the DB and returns the address with full details.
That is, search results will be like,
Address 1234, number of rooms 3, bathrooms 3 etc.
If the address the user seached for is not found, the user is redirected to a page that prompts them to add it
to the DB. Also I would like for it [search results] to open in a mini window with an option for the user to close window after reviewing the records.
I have thought of using a drop-down but discarded that, 'cos what happens if the DB records gets to be in the thousands?

Recurring Task

I am attempting to design a maintenance program which includes a series of recurring tasks. I would like for the user to be able to assign their tasks to recur similar to the way Outlook does.

I have been searching on the web for quite a while and have been unsuccessful with getting ideas on how to start this. I would like to use ASP VB or JavaScript.

Does anyone have any suggestions or links that could point me in the right direction?

Schedule A Task

Any way to do a Scheduled task without having access to a "Scheduled Task" feature in the hosting control panel. IOW, I want to run a single Update Table query every Sunday at Midnight but I don't want to have to manually run it. I use SQL 2000 on a Win2k machine.

Schedule Task In VB/ASP

I'm trying to find a way where I can schedule a task to be run within a web site, either in VB (COM) or within the web site (ASP). What I want to do is to run a daily scheduled task which will cleanup a desired folder within the web site. As I say, this must be an automated scheduler which can kicked off by itself without any interaction from a user etc.

End Task Program

I need an end task program in VB6.0 (the source code). I have searched planet-source-code.com inside out and can't find just 1 regular end task program that works on my system. Is it because I am running on XP and they only work on ME and younger systems?

Anyways I need an XP, source, compatible version of the software. I am writing an interesting program, which once complete will tell you what its for (dont worry this one is totally legal ). It should list and then allow users to click END/close. I think its done through an API.

Automating A Task

I have an ASP application which includes an asp page which
processes a user submitted file. I would like to
automate the process so the server scans the directory
every 5 minutes and processes any files in the directory.
I would like to 'reuse' the existing logic in the asp
page.

How can I create a server process to do this?
The closest I can figure out is to hook the logic into a
application/session start logic in global.asa where it
would run everytime a new session was started, but I would
like it to run like a cron job every 5 minutes. Code:

Approach This Task

I have a table which stores details of businesses. These businesses have associated links to 2 tables called areas and categories. What I would like to be able to do is display a list of all the businesses in a particular area with a breakdown of all the different categories in that area together with a corresponding count of records.

i.e. pull out all the businesses for a given area and order by business category
then for each category, display a count of the records in that particular category in that area.

Send Outlook Task

Does anyone know if its possible to send an Outlook task from an ASP page running on a Windows 2000 Server on an intranet. There is also Microsoft Exchange Server on the same network which handles Outlook mailboxes.

The Windows 2000 server will soon be upgraded to Wndows 2003, if that makes a difference.
