Open Connection To Another Server
I would like to connect to another server and execute my query from my asp page. But how can I initiate the connection string to another server DB? For example Code:
ConnString = "dsn=abc;uid=xyz;pwd=123"
What will be the way to issue the connection string to another server? Using SQL Server 2000.
Open Connection
I was working on a site an I forgot to open up a connection to my database, but it connected anyway.For example here is the code to create the recordset I am using

Anyway, the above code created the recordset fine. Do you not have to open a connection to the database, but just pass it the connection string in the open command of the recordset?
Open Database Connection When Users Visits?
Basically everytime I need a page to access a database I will create a connection object, and then at the end of the page I will close the connection object.
Would it be more sensible to create all the connections to the database that a user will need when they first visit the site, and then close these connections once they leave the site. (Using something to do with Start Session and End Session).
Can I Keep A Connection Open To Wait For Output From A Proccess
I have a web form that uploads a file to the server where the file is proccessed and outputs a report, the time lapse between uploading the file and the report being produced varys from a few seconds to a few minutes depending on the number of clients requesting reports.
My question is after the file has been uploaded is it possible to keep the connection open and inform the client when the report is ready for downloading.
Open Document On Server
I have a table which lists many documents preuploaded on the server (most are either PDF, RTF or Word documents). When the user click on the link to the document, it opens in its native program inside IE.
If the document is either rtf or word, when the user closes the document, the server pops up a dialog asking for the site userid and password (as if access to the site is required to publish files). I know the server is popping this dialog up because the program (word etc) is trying to work out if the changes to the document should be saved or discarded. How do I avoid this ?
Is there a way I can allow a user to open the document, make some changes and save the document back onto the server without knowing the site id and password ?

I am designing a site for a friend using dreamweaver and unfortunately my link has gone down to my test server. I use dreamweaver to generate most of my asp but since I can;t do this with a broken connection I wondered if anyone would be kind enough to help me with a very simple bit of code.

Asp Connection To Godaddy Mysql Server Problems
I've got a UAPortal (asp freeware intranet) on a godaddy hosting package that comes with a free mysql database. I can't connect the asp site to the godaddy sql server.
They give me the connection strings, but don't tell me where or how to use them! Support does no good, they tell me that is programming, get an expert.
UAPortal comes with an Access database, so when installed it works fine, but its only Access. I want to use the mysql database which is faster, larger and more useful. I opened the Common.asp file and added the info from the connection strings, but now I get an error message:

I work with ASP for several weeks now and i really like it! But until now i have just used it in connection with my localhost. I made connections to a SQL Database and to an ACESS Database with using the ODBC Tool from WIndows!!
Now i want to publish my website but i don't know how to handle the connection string kind of thing. My MySQL-Database is on a different server than the website and i need a connection string where i can type in the server, a password and a username and it should then connect.
