I have worked in PHP / MySQL. But never worked in ASP/MSSQL. At the moment, i ma stuck with a problem. Hope someone here can figure it out.I have a list of countries in a Page. When the user MOUSE Over any Country, through Javascript, a small layer <DIV> appear that shows some data about that country. Up till now that XML File is filed MANUALLY.
Now that Data is changing frequently. What we want is that to do the same thing described above through database. Like when the user mouse over any country, that will load XML and connect the Database, extract info and then show in the same DIV layer. Or alternatively, there might be some sript, that will RUN AUTOMATICALLY daily or weekly and update all the countries data XML files. please guide me how to achieve this in ASP + MSSQL + XML + Javascriptor any combination of these.
Is there a way to set a dropdown menu to display dynamic contents according to user's choice?
For example, I have a drop down menu with values 1, 2 and 3. If a user chooses 1, it should display only 1 question and if the user chooses 2, it should display 2 questions.
this is an asp/ javascript question.Say I have a variable in asp.
dim myVariable = "hello big boy"
How can I get JavaScript to read the contents of that variable?can I use it straight away?
<script language="javascript">
document.write(myVariable);
</script>
Or is it more complicated than that?
1) I build a Html Table dynamically (Header Row, and then 2 rows with data
All 2 rows have 2 cells: cell(0) contains a delete button (ASP Button),
cell(1) contains a HTML Text box
2) On Form Load and get some data from a dataset and then from it's contents
build the page
At this point the page is rendered and 2 rows are displayed. There is an Add
button that a user can click to add another row to the table. This works fine
and the row is added.
Now if the user clicks the delete button in row 2 the form is posted back, I
rebuild the page, and then in the click event for the delete button remove
the row from the table and the dataset. All appears to be fine at this point.
Now if the user clicks the add button again another row is added, but this
time row 2's textbox has the wrong value. It appears to be related to the
view state. I think the view state somehow is not getting cleared when the
row is removed.
I'm attempting to read from a text file and output the contents into one variable that I can write to the page later. I can't Response.Write the thing because of the way our system is designed. Here's the code I got so far:
<%
set objFSO =server.createobject("scripting.filesystemObject")
path = "E:******************" & session("ENTRYPAGE") & "content.asp"
path = replace(path,"www.","")
set objstream = objFSO.opentextfile(path)
do while not objstream.atendofStream
lineText = objstream.readline
lineText = lineText & lineText
loop
response.write linetext
objstream.close
%>
All I get for output is the last line of the text file twice.
Note: The content.asp that I'm trying to load in does not contain any ASP. All of the content is HTML.
I was looking for a method to store the contents of text file within a variable. So far I am able to read the text file and output the results using the write method. Going a step further I also wanted to replace a particular string within those same results using the "Replace" function. This works as well.
My question, how can I store the final result that write's to the screen so that I can reference it later. If you run this code, I basically want to take the verbiage that displays on the sreen and place it into a variable. Code:

I can do this easily in PHP by using the php executable on the command line through a cron job(unix). Is there an equivalent for ASP? I see it as a less complicated cache.
So far I've only been able to output the actual script lines to a file. I want ASP to intrepret, then output.
im wondering if there is a method/command which can be used so that when an asp page is called, it can 'explode' content from a text file (.txt) onto a web page, thus enabling a n00b to alter the text within the file, rather than the web page itself?
Further more, if I wanted to incorporate the text which is exploded into a CSS to give it some style flava, how would I do this? Is it possible?

View Replies View RelatedI have a spare parts database that I am working on. All that needs to be stored is the part description, what it goes to, and the quantity in stock.
Since that's all that I need, I want to be able to allow the user to edit the quantity right on the results page, through a textbox. Just change the number in the textbox for each part, press the button, and voila, it's all saved to the database (and is redisplayed for your convenience.)
However, there is no set amount of part rows. Right now, I'm creating the text boxes using the id of the item (i.e., name="quantity<%=RS("partID")%>"), but I'm not certain how to call the variables to put in an insert.
What is the syntax for dynamic/variable variables (if they even exist in ASP)?
I'm having a brain fart at the moment. Can someone tell me how to dynamically create variable names based on a loop counter?
for i = 1 to Num_Cart_Items
Item_Name & i = Request.Form("item_name" & i)
Item_Number & i = Request.Form("item_number" & i)
next
Desired result:
Item_Name1 = Test Product
Item_Number1 = 1234
Item_Name2 = Test Product 2
Item_Number2 = 2345
The problem is with the Item_Name & i..I used to know how to do this, but I can't remember or find any code that I did this with.
This thread is not so much a big problem, but more to receive comments on my approach. You may have some other tips or advices of where to go or where absolutely not to go with my attempts. Code:

I've noticed when I go to various websites to read online articles, when the
link is clicked, I frequently see a file such as NewsArticle-17229.asp.
The ASP file is totally different for each article.
How is this done?
Is there an ASP file created that is unique for each article?
The # on the end appears to change.
Have an ASP form which is filled out with Maintenance Alert info. Upon completion, the form posts data to a dynamic page to control look/feel. I then use IE's Send Page function. In Outlook Express, the Subject line comes through as the Title of the page (Maintenance Alert - Whatever).
But in Outlook, the filename becomes the subject. Is there anyway to define the subject line through Send Page? And yes, this is a painful way to get a message sent, but due to user limitations and cooperation, this is what I am left with.
I am currently building a page that initially displays a list of categories e.g.
Category 1
Category 2
etc
Clicking on a category should cause a list of the items in the category to be shown e.g. clicking Category 1 should lead to:
Category 1
Item 1
Item 2 etc.
Category 2
I have implemented this part successfully. I have placed a hyperlink in each Category so that when it is clicked the page is refreshed, with a parameter 'categoryid' used to return the relevant items from the database. Code:
so for this weeks project for class I have to create a dynamic page in asp. As of now im completely lost and failing.I was finally able to setup IIS and get everything going. I made a page in asp saying "Hello World". Now the question is what exactly do I need to do to make a dynmaic page in asp? Im assuming he wants me to create a database in say access and pull it up in asp.
Does anyone have a simple database in access they can post a link to so I can download it and also a link to the asp code to display it properly on a page? I want to take a look at the code and see if looking at it I can gain a better understanding of what to do and how asp can help make dynamic pages.
What I need to do is use asp to read the contents of a web page (that is generated on another server), put the html in to a sting, and then take action based on the contents of the string. I can probably do all of the sring manipulation myself, but want to know if I can open the page and read the first 200 characters in to a variable that I can then manipulate.

View Replies View Relatedmy site (which I am currently redeveloping) has 3 different sections to the site. All which well contain different information.
What I want to know is how can I make the starting page of the site display information which the users is looking for.
eg. if the user always go to one section of the site the main page well show information relevant to that section. (I hope you know what I mean)
So I was thinking about how to do this and this is what I came up with.
Set a cookie for the site and each section has there own number value (eg. 1 to 10)
When the user hits the main page it gets the values of all 3 sections from the cookies and checks which has the most value (eg 3, 5, 10).
Based upon the highest value each section has there own .asp include which is shown to the user.
Are there any free/open source ASP solutions that will allow you to dynamically convert an HTML page to a PDF?
What I'd like to do is include a "Convert to PDF" button on a .asp page that will convert whatever is there to a PDF.
Is there a free version that works well out there?

i have a website that uses (or needs to use) dynamically driven dropdowns using asp & JS on all pages. it contains 3 different dropdowns that are DB fed and are dependent upon the value of each other. the drop down values are updated using a repost to itself.
they work perfectly on the initial pages where no other variables are involved, but i am having troubles on the pages where more variables are being sent. eg: i have use a lot of error checking, and when i repost, the variables are deleted, and thus the error listings take effect as the variables are now blank. can i refresh the dropdowns without repossting to the samepage without effecting the existing variables on that page? sessions? cookies?
