I have written an article program, which has a collection of articles that people can click on and read. It's like a forum but without the reply function...
I want to write a counter for each article, but it cannot be done without cookies...my question is: how do you use a single cookies to determine which threads have been read and which haven't.
I am using a db to hold student data records. I currently display them in a roster based on their affiliation with a certain class. To edit a record I need to click the name of an individual, it opens an edit page, I make the changes, hit submit and return to the roster.
This is pretty standard stuff. What I would like to do is change one field of every record without opening each record individually. The idea comes from my Fantasy Fball league roster:
Where the example above says "ActiveReserve" is a pull down menu that lets me change who is playing week to week. I can then change each record, hit submit one time, and update the db. So how do they do it?
I'm building a page to display a series of records but wanted to filter the results by location and display the resulting records under their own sub-heading.
All the records are in the one db table and there'll be a total of 5 queries.
I'm unsure whether I need to open and close the connection for each query, or whether it's better to open one connection, run all the queries and then close the connection at the end, if so, the resulting code would look like: Code:
I'm trying to create a single form to update multiple records in a database (Access). Similar to an update qty's in a shopping basket, whereby, on submit/update it passes and updates each record, without using the ONCHANGE feature (otherwise this would become an extremely laborious task in this application)
I've tried passing and updating an array but to no avail (maybe I'm doing something wrong)
Also, I can't seem to grab the contents of the form text field, even though I'm dynamically assigning names to each text field.
Should I be using Javascript to handle the change in values, if so, anyone got any sample code/helpful links?
This is a simple question, but is been a while since I program in ASP and I forgot.
I have a variable like this: 01-00005-03
I need to have 3 variables from that single one... Something like this, from that variable, let for example that is called fullvariable, split it and get the following variable values from it.
I have a difficult technical challenge I'm facing. I need to retrieve multiple values for the very bottom item in the list, 'Federated' (ignore the rest).
The database will query based off the option 'value', however, in this special case I want to perform a retrieval based off of multiple of values. I want to try to use the existing code without reinventing the wheel. Code:
I am working with IIS 5.0 and would like use the property CentralBinaryLoggingEnabled which if set true will create one single binary log file in place of a separate log file for multiple websites.
This property is available in IIS 6.0. I would like to know if there is a patch available for IIS 5.0 which will create this property in IIS 5.0.
I've got multiple pages on the same server that all have the same drop down boxes in them. It is a list of all our facilities. Every time there is a change, I have to change it on every page. They are in the format below. Is there an easy way to store all that data in a text file so I only have to update it one place?
Is there a way to make cookies unique for each user logging into an asp application without overwriting the original cookie?
For example:
User A logs in as User A. A cookie is created on that users computer with name, user_id, etc. Then User A logs in as User B - while still logged into User A.
How do I prevent the original cookie from being overwritten? Or should that first cookie be overwritten?
I have been building a search engine for about 9 months now of links to other site that I have admin Access to. This has been simple for me to keep mySQL record of page hits, as I admin all the sites.
I now have a requirement to add 3rd party pages, that require to be able to increment counters tables on mySQL database.
This is exactly the same requirement as other 3rd party counter web sites offer. They seem to do it with a bit of java and an image. Unfortantly I have no idea how it is done..
each of my search engine records has a unique ID, --------- :-)
I just want for example when a 3rd party page is loaded, for it to HTTP GET the image from my server and somehow know carry the unique ID for the record, so when my server receives the HTTP GET for the particular image or Javacode it can translate the sent varable so that I know what counter to update..
This seemed easy the more I thought about it, the more I realized I did not have a clue how to do it... The only thing is that it must not be ASP on the client as I am not sure all of my 3rd party links have ASP. So I suppose it must be javascript based..
I have a global.asa for my website where I use a counter from MSWC.Counters to store the count of sessions. Unfortunately, every time I look at it the numbers could go down, or up radically. I tried using Scripting.FileSystemObject to make a text file where I could store the count, but apparently that doesn't work in global.asa.
In my Session_OnStart in Global.asa, I am setting some cookies. One of them, I set as follows:
dim UserID UserID = Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER") Response.Cookies("User")("ID") = UCASE(UserID)
When I immediately log the cookie value retrieved from Request.Cookies("User")("ID") into the Windows Event Log, I get the correct value. However, when I try to retrieve the cookie on the home page of my application using the same code,
Request.Cookies("User")("ID"), it either cannot find the cookie or cannot read the value. I am retrieving the cookie before all HTML headers are written. It is my first statement on the page after Option Explicit. I have even compared the session IDs. The SessionID created in the Session_OnStart is the same value as the SessionID on the home page.
I have read that the Session_OnStart only has access to the Application, Session and Request objects. It does not explicitly say that it does not have access to the Response object. Also, I was even able to use Response.Write's in Global.asa to print out the values although it looked like it had also stopped the session after I did so. Cookies are definitely enabled on my machine. I have even tried setting the session cookie's expiration to be persistent for a few days to see if it was perhaps expiring before I was able to read it but this did not work either.
Is there something preventing cookies to be created in Global.asa in the Session_OnStart sub? Is the Response object not available??? Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem or solution.
Is it possible for a user to enable permanent cookies but disable session cookies.....this seems like a contradition yet this is what I appear to be reading in online articles?
I m creating a cookies in my application and it work properly but i can't see the cookies where it will sotred i checked the cookies folder but i didn't find that I want to create a cookies file as the other web site create and store where other cookies will stored in Cookies folder or Temprory Internet files folder eg:1. arvind@google.co[1].txt this stored in cookies folder 2. arvind@msn[2].txt ....
I have been using recordsets to access data from a database.I then loop thru each row in a dataset and assign the values to the objects on my web page. The particular sql stmt that I have right now, only returns a single value from a database. I need to assign this single value to a variable in my asp code. Can I do this without using a recordset?
If I have to use a recordset, do I just do var1 = recordset("columnname") (I ofcource create the connection object, the sql stmt and stuff first).
I have a simple form submission but the problem is my SQL insert (or update) is failing if in the text field there is any single quotes (') I tried running the like replace(textfield,"'","") to just remove them but it will still error out on me. is there any other way to format the variable, do I need to use an escape character?
I am trying to send a 'single' data type to a sql server db cell that is formatted for 'decimal' from asp/ado code and it is converting it to an integer. Should I be using some other data type in sql server?
can i delete related data from 2 tables using a single sql statement? is my code correct? correct me if i wrong. i want to delete data where user click the delete link. Code:
sqlDelete = "DELETE FROM Reservation R, Quotation Q WHERE R.resID = " & request.querystring("id") & " And Q.resID = " & request.querystring("id")
I have a table with one header, everytime I use this code (below) it returns EOF and I know for sure there is at least a zero there:Code:
set rs = server.createobject("adodb.recordset") rs.open "SELECT myonlyheader FROM mydatabase", "dsn=whatever" response.write rs("myonlyheader") rs.close set rs = nothing What am I doing wrong here?
I am looking to implement a single-sign on solution for my company's website which has many partner websites scattered around the globe.
I want the members to be inconvenienced as much as possible, so if they log into one website, they are logged into all of them. As each website exists on seperate web servers in different locations, this makes my options a little tricky.
Has anyone had any experiences of single-sign on? I only know a little of XML, but I understand that this kind of thing can be achieved using XML over SOAP.
Running into a what I thought should be a small problem but it's going on an hour and I still can't figure it out
Reading an excel file and running queries on Sheet names. The problem is when there is a single quote in the sheet name.
selectQuery = "SELECT * FROM Dave's Sheet"
I tried to use
selectQuery = "SELECT * FROM Dave's Sheet"
But that doesn't work either.
It keeps bombing the query. Not matter what I try I can't get this to work. I can't replace the single quotes because then it can't find the tab name. Any ideas?
I've got an HTML page with a series of links that are intended to search a category listing in a database.
for example
link 1 has a querystring of "?subid=Boats" link 2 has a querystring of "?subid=Cars & Trucks" link 3 has a querystring of "?subid=Men's & Women's Outerwear" etc
As long as the subid doesn't contain any single quotes or any special characters such as the "&", my SQL works ok and the records are retrieved. 'm using Request("subid") to get my querystring value. Is there any way I can escape the single quotes or other special characters in the Request("subid") so it won't break the SQL?
how i could insert data into my DB that contained apostrophes. for example, I wanted to insert Bailey's well, my SQL statement was being cut off when it hit the ' and i was getting all sorts of errors. i was writting some complex stuff to take out the ' then re-insert it when being displayed.lots of work then i thought, what if i replace my ' with " in my insert statement.
like i said, some of you may know this, but i thought id share my experience with you just in case someone runs across the same problem.
I've built an array like this and I've put it into an application:
Code: If not isArray(Application("utenti"))thenDim online(1,4)online(0,0)=4 online(1,0)=1online(0,1)=5online(1,1)=1online(0,2)=7online(1,2)=1online(0,3)=9 online(1,3)=3online(0,4)=15online(1,4)=3application("utenti")=onlineEnd if Now is it possible to modify some values in this application-array?For example trying to set the value in position 1,1 equal to 3 I wrote: application("utenti")(1,1)=3 or
I'm building a few web sites that will use distinct domain names but will reside on the same server, at the same IP address, in the same application space, and will share a database. They will each provide different content depending on the domain name, but will share some core functionality behind the scenes.
What I'd like to be able to do is have one site serve as the primary site. If a visitor comes to one of the secondary sites and wishes to perform a function that requires them to be logged in, I'd like them to be able to log in only once and then be able to visit any of the sites without having to login again. Does anyone know of a pure ASP script-based single sign-on system?
I am having a problem with a single quote in my URL. I use HTMLEncode and all is good on my machine, but when I test it with a browser from a different machine, I get 403 on invalid characters. More, it seems to me that the URL gets truncated after that single quote that I have in my URL.
Access 2000 doesn't allow single quote when updating records from the webpage. If the user need to insert for example the name O'neil in a field it will create this error:
Just as the title says I am trying to do something impossible with a single SQL statement. I am doing an ASP webpage for internal use at the company I work for.
I want to know if there is a way to insert/update data into multiple tables in 1 SQL statement.
If it requires functions | views or anything else that is fine but I don't want to have 3-4 different SQL statements to update 2-3 different columns in different tables.
I have a search option on my website, which should perform a search on 4 fields, as follows:
tblNews headline content
tblDatabank filename description
It only needs to return matches which are an exact match of their search criteria. For instance, searching for "I am here" would return a record which contained "I am here", but not just "I" or "I am" etc.
I need to return all these records as part of one recordset preferably, as I want to be able to order them etc., though I imagine you may suggest I use an array somehow to merge two recordets etc., then reorder them?
