1) I need to build an admin page that allows me to browse to the file that I
want stored in SQL Server 2000 in an image field, have it uploaded to the
server, and then stored in the db. I see this done all the time, so I don't
think this part is too hard, but I'm not sure how to get the image into the
db.
2) I want to display the image within a web page, so I would want to pull
the image out of the db, place it on my web server in a certain location,
and then reference the file in the HTML. How do I do that?
I have a wast databse of records, where there are so many Images assiociated with each record. I store the Image paths, record's primary key in the database and retrive them as and when required to display the records and the necessary images corresponding to the records. the image path as of now contains a relative path from the root directoy.
Problem:
The main problem is ..what happenes when the hard disk is full and if i add another harddisk.. and add images into that new hard disk. how will i be able to address the images?? as they are in a separate hard disk hence cannot be addressed relative to the web site's root directory..
How to secure images,Docs from anonymous preying Eyes?
Ok I looked around and read some articles about using a db to store images and stuff about having to save it as a blob. How exactly would you input it though? Is is the standard "insert" query?
Also, if I don't plan to use the image itself in the db (to reduce slow down) and store the path instead, would it still be easy to load it into a webpage as if it were to be in the db? Or should i just store it into the db?
I need some advice/ideas on how I could do the following:
I want to store articles which contain both images and text - like a writeup of an event - kind of an image and text blog.
I want to store articles in a database probably - at the moment I use access databases.
Clearly I could have the text of my article in one field and store images (or links to them) in other fields and then display all the images at the end of the article but what I want is..
to be able to make it to have text then a few paragraphs down have a nice right aligned image with text to the left of it and then some more text etc etc so it looks like a static, layout planned article.
What would be the best way to go about this? Can this be done by storing in a database?
I am working on a book selling website using ASP with an Access DB. Basically i would like to have an image of each book in the DB to be displayed upon request in the website. So I guess what i would really like to know is
1. Can i store .jpg or .gif files in an Access DB? 2. Does it make sense to do this? 3. Would it be better to have some kind of pointer in the DB to a place in the file system where the image is stored? .......
I want to upload image files (jpg) into a sub-directory of a website root directory using a web interface allowing the user to browse their drive and select the jpg file to upload.
Also, is there a way to parse the information from the jpg file and insert the information into a SQL database table which would hold the file name, image height, and image width?
I'm new to handling binary files, so I'm not sure how to accomplish this?
In my Access database I have multiple images for some of the records. What is the best way to retrieve and display the multiple images. I am storing the images in a folder and only the path in the DB. Some of them have just 1 image, some 2, some 3 and so on. I have the record ID # and the image name same, for eg. if the record id is R01 then the image name would be R01.jpg if there is only 1 image otherwise R01a.jpg, R01b.jpg, R01c.jpg etc. Is there any way I can open the folder and check for the name and list the image file names as a link to display the images if the ID name and image name matches.
We are storing images into the SQL database with the column type of "Image" using Access and it is storing all of the images as "OLE Object". I am trying to spit out the binary data of the Image part of the OLE Object to an asp .net page so I can view it as a jpeg image.
I have found many tutorials for setting the response.contenttype and then response.binarywrite the byte[] of binary data, but the problem is that the binary data isn't just the image, but rather an OLE Object which is the image plus a bunch of metadata. I need to somehow decode the OLE Object to extract JUST the jpeg image from it for outputting as a byte[] array.
We have a site running on w2k, IIS5.0. The problem is that the site intermittently stops working and returns the error "Not enough storage is available to complete this operation.". This is only for ASP pages. HTML pages are served fine. Restarting the services gets the site working for a few minutes.
There is no problem with space on any drives. The size of the paging file seems fine. The registry size is fine.I have tried everything I can think of. It is not page specific. Even just renaming a plain html file to a .ASP extension causes the error.
I want to have a variable in wich I will store a date. this variable should be stored in a DataBase, because I want it to be in all my website pages and I don't want it to be erased after the web host starts over (that marks out application variables). The real problem here isn't were to store it, cause that's gotta be in a DB (I think), but how to store it. I don't want to make a whole table with one feild in it only for one row, thats total waste of place on my host.
I'm copying an office automation script from NT4 to w2k, and have as far is can be certain replicated all the settings correct, but at the point where the word.application object tries to create a new document using a specific template, I get either this error or one about incorrect file paths.
I've been through dcomconfig, and have tried both interactive and launching user as the identity for word, but even with all the correct settings from the kb articles, and setting modify rights to temp and winnt/temp, cannot get beyond these errors.
This script works fine via the NT4 box its moving off, and the only difference of any value with the w2k box is that integrated authentication is being used on the new box.
I am using vb dll in my asp page. In that dll i am creating word documents (its like a mail merge sort of application). But when i call the dll in my asp page it gives me the below error.
Microsoft Word (0x800A175D) Could not open macro storage. /welcome/generatedoc.asp, line 57
Code:
a = welcome.GenerateWelcomeLetter (cstr(qry),cstr(template_filename), cstr(save_filename))
I'm developing web surveys where users logon to a web survey and answer up to about 50 questions, one after the other, shown only one question at a time. The answers are saved in a database.
A fellow developer and I are discussing when is the best time to save the answers. We have two approaches in mind:
Approach 1: After each question is answered, the answer is saved in the database. Sessions are only used to store the User ID.
Approach 2: After each question is answered, the answer is saved in a session variable. When the user has finished the entire survey, all the answers are saved at once in the database. Also, if the user logs out, or if the session times out, the answers answered so far are all saved in the database at once.
The amount of actual data sent to the database is the same in both approaches, but Approach 1 have much more frequent calls to the DB, thus creating an overhead of opening and closing connections. I'm not sure how significant that is. On the oter hand, Approach 2 store a lot of data in sessions. I'm not sure how bad a thing that is.
Which approach is better and for what reasons? I'd be happy to supply more information if needed.
My content managed site allows users to add images to their account. Oringinally I was gonna store these in Access. However I have got a script which will let my users upload their images to the server.
The problem is how do I make sure images being uploaded don't affect others i.e. two users upload an image called photo.jpg, only one can exist in the same folder, right?
Do I then need to consider having a script which creates a folder based on the username?
i m creating a site using asp in which i will collect user details, means their names, address, other information along with their pictures, so please can any one help me by telling how can i strore pictures in sql sever using asp. in very long detail. and how can i retrieve snaps from data base to display on the pages.
I have an application (VB.Net2) which takes an image (JPEG) file and resizes it.
I have tested this application by putting it into a local version of my website (which also contains local copy of my image library) hosted on my PC. The images shown on the web pages are crisp and clear.
But when I put this same version of the website (including image library) onto my remote webserver, the images shown on the served web pages are markedly pixallated (even in areas that are normally flat colour). I have downloaed the images from the image library to check them on my PC and they are fine.
Why should the website produce crsip/clear images when hosted locally yet grainy/pixallated images when hosted on a remote web server?
Other than creating a custom component or purchasing one, isn't there any other way by which users can upload images/files from their local machines/hard disks to a remote server? Doesn't ASP have any in-built component to do so?
If that's indeed the case, can someone suggest any free components (not trial ones) which can be used to upload images/files from users' local machines/hard disks to a server?
With the website i'm developing, the user can upload images and the filename is saved to a mysql db, the problem is displaying these images. If i use the servers local path i.e. "C:InetpubwwwrootIMGimage.jpg" then the page just displays the little box with a square, circle and triangle in it, that usually displays while an image is loading. If i use "http://localhost/IMG/image.jpg" then when i load the page i get the "connect to the server:type name & password" box popping up...
I've set the permissions so that an Internet guest has read & write permissions to the IMG folder so I don't understand why it's not just displaying the images.
My host offers the 'Persists ASP-Upload' component, but not the 'ASP-Jpeg' component. I can therefore allow users to upload images which can then be saved on the server.
What I need to do however, is resize their images before they are saved, so that their pixel dimensions are correct. Is there a way to do this without having the ASP-Jpeg (or similar) component installed on the server?
I am trying to build a simple image gallery, that displays image form the files on web server and displays it on webpage.
I tried, but it gives an error:
Quote: Error Type:
Active Server Pages, ASP 0113 (0x80004005)
The maximum amount of time for a script to execute was exceeded. You can change this limit by specifying a new value for the property Server.ScriptTimeout or by changing the value in the IIS administration tools.
I am using a customized version of the XML RSS Content Feed VBScript Class (available at: XML RSS Content Feed VBScript Class to show an XML-feed on my web site. Since the web site are based on a CMS that uses an MS SQL - database, I will try to store the XML-feed in the database instead of just displaying it using a XML/RSS-parser.
I know Microsoft have several tools for this, but they seems to sofisticated and complicated for my use. I just wants an simple ASP-script that reads thought the XML-feed, and store the differnt news-items straight into my MS-SQL DB.
My page have background image,on that image have more images and text. My problem is whenever resize browser that images are not resized and also not moved correct place .(i.e look not like before alignment).I want to do everything in dyanamic....
Anyone know of any special issues with storing cookies with ASP? I'm trying this with two browsers: One is IE 6.0 with cookies set to 'prompt'. This has been working properly as any new site I goto seems to prompt me to store their cookie. The other is Pocket IE on Pocket PC 2002, with the cookies set to 'enabled'.
My problem is that the cookies dont seem to be being written with my ASP. I dont get the prompt to store the cookie when I should. My storage code looks like this:
I have run into a unique issue, what I want to be able to do is store a collection or array into a database or xml file. The main reason for doing this, is I don't want to use Sessions as they are volatile to server hiccups or resets. I don't want to use cookies as they are insecure, but I will use one cookie to store a UniqueID to relate to the data in the database or XML file. Can anyone think of a way to store an array in Access, MySQL, or XML file?
I'm writing a vbscript application that reads UTF-8 XML containing Chinese characters and stores the data in MySql 4.0.x. Does anybody have any experience in this area with regarding codepage and character sets? Ideally I want the scripts to be able to handle Standard European characters and Chinese characters as well. Are there any special considerations for using MySql/ODBC and ADO to get and put the data.
I've read that you shouldn't store objects in Session variables. I've read these reasons: - The object takes up memory that may not be freed until the session times out. Better to create the object only when you actually use it. - Causes poor performance because the thread that created the object has to service all requests for it. Assuming I can live with the memory and performance implications (a big if, but let's assume it for a minute), what other reasons are there?
