Trim Text
how to use ltrim, rtrim to trim the beginning and end of text entries for extra spaces. I was wondering if there is a way to trim extra spaces from WITHIN a text entry.
Example:

John and Linda
to
John and Linda

i'm having some trouble with the trim function. I have a date 04/18/1982. I want enter the value 1982-04 into the database. The code i'm using is:

I am constantly in need of help, I am back again. I am slowly, slowly getting my page to work. Here is the latest of my queries. I want to automatically make a username by trimming the first character of the first name and taking the entire last name, and putting it in strUserName, I am a little iffy about TRIM (what else is new) rofl. Anyway the user name I want to take the first 3 characters from postal/zip code and the first three numbers from phone number and make the password. Here is what I am thinking of course it doesn't work. BIG SURPRISE!!!

ASP Trim Function?
I'm creating a website that will have a page that lists current news
items. The news items will be stored in a SQL Server database and will
have basically two fields, the date and the news blurb . . . On the
main page of the site, I want to have a box that shows "Current News"
and only pulls the first 7 or so words from the news blurb followed by
a ... [more] where [more] is a link to the current news page.

Trim Leading
I have a textarea, that when you insert your cursor into it anywhere except for in the very first line, the cursor falls into the second line. When the form is submitted there is a carriage return at the beginning of the text that I'm having trouble getting rid of.
I tried to Trim() the string both before inserting it into the database and when writing it to the page, but apparently that doesn't strip off carriage returns (even though I've read it does.)

Trim Whitespace
does anyone know if it's possible to crop whitespace regions from around the edges of an image using Imagemagick?
I have a whole bunch of signature images (as in, people's handwritten signatures) and I'd like to crop them so that there's no whitespace margin around them. I can do the cropping fine, it's just detecting the color regions.
Trim All Characters After The First "
I need to do is remove ALL characters after and inc the characters "." found in a variable. i have a variable which holds device with DNS name such as E096064-FWSM2.netdevice.companyname.com
i want the variable to just hold the name E096064-FWSM2 the extension after the first "." can very greatly so i can not specify all possible options as i just do not know what they are going to be.
Trim Return Caracter
I make a csv file with values from data base fields . If my value contains a carriage return caracter at the end, a new line is created in my csv file. I tried to replace chr(13) caracter by an empty caracter but it doesn't work, my code is:
Replace(Trim(element.value), chr(13),"")
Do you have any idea to resolve my problem?
Trim() Doesn't Work
I cannot figure out why this won't work, but I cannot get the trim() function to work for me. I tried this test code just to see if I could get anything:Code:

And the results are both the same.This is a string.
Can anyone think of any good reason the Trim statement wouldn't be working I cannot think of any other common ASP function that isn't working for me.

or to use both
rTrim(ltrim(Request.Form("txtFromName")))

Ok, I have this code:

Now, results1 comes from the ms indexing server.
Problem with some of the results is the title is an empty string, so no link.
If I query the catalog in comp mgnmt, no problems.
So, indexing problem or something else.
I can use the path and get the doc name there if empty.
Also, does asp have a string.trim like .net? ....

I have this problem in controlling a the text in a Text Area. How can I do
that for example the field size is 200, when it reaches 50 it automatically
goes to the next line. Bcoz im having problem when viewing it in my report,
it continuesly views in a strieght line and im having problem in printing.
International Text And FSO Created Text Files
When using ASP's FileSystemObject to create text files, I am unable to get user submitted text (in Hebrew) to save as anything other than "?????". The text file is being saved in Unicode and setting the CodePage in ASP proved unsuccessful. Strangely, hard coded Hebrew text in an ASP variable does add to the text file correctly.
Any ideas of why this happens and how to get it to work correctly?

Text Box In Form Cutting Text
I have a form on asp page that pulls info from a DB when the page loads.
It them puts the info into text boxes on the page that are editable by the
user.
The only problem I have is say in the description text box it should
read "HP Laserjet 5Si" , it always cuts the text off where it just says "HP"
.. It does this on all the text boxes? I can't seem to figure out why it
is doing it. Here is the sample code:

I have text in a field coming from a database. The text has various
forms such as:
text1
text1 or text2
text1 or text2 or text3
text1; or text2
text1; or text2; or text3
etc...
how can I parse this with a reg ex? I tried this:
(.+);? or
but it only captures 1 submatch (text1) and only if theres an "or"
after it
I'd like to get 1 submatch for each piece of text separated by the
"or", just the text itself if there is no or.
Anyone know how to do it?

I'm trying to make a text box for comments. I know how to put one value into a text box like name, but i'm not sure how to pull multi-values. I want to be able to display the time,user and comment in a text box. I don't know how to go about this. The comments are stored in a different table and there can be many comments for one policy.

The files are stored in textfiles.I have come up with a script to produce the names into a Select list, but know i'm wanting them to be read into a textarea box,to allow me to submit them into from the form into the sendmail.asp page! but the only way i can pass them out, is into a iframe, whichd oesn't seem to allow me to then pass them into the sendmail.asp page.
Getting Text Into SQL
I have an ASP page to be used as a Softball Roster. The user will enter their roster information and the information will then go into a SQL database. My problem is this... I keep getting this error "String or Binary Data would be truncated". I figured out what this message meant and I have printed my variable to the screen to see what I get.
As an example what I get for my variable PlayerFirstName is Joe, John, Henry, Alex. I only want one name at a time so that I can import them into SQL. How do I parse my line apart so that I can loop through it and pull off only one item at a time and put it into SQL?

I'm writing an intranet and I need to put something like a non-editable
scrolling text box on the home page where daily announcements can be placed.
I've tried adding a scrolling text box, but I am not sure how to make it
non-editable.
Is there any way I can fill the textbox using something like
textstream? I would imagine one person in the organisation would be in
charge of adding this text somehow. I'm a bit lost in trying to find the
best method.
