Uploading/resizing Images

I've been looking for ages for decent serverside (or clientside I suppose,) software for uploading images. I need the software to make thumbnails of the images too.

I'm making a property website product and I need to make it easy for the user to upload pics by browsing to them and selecting them. When he/she adds the info and photos the thumbnails will be made automatically ....

Uploading And Resizing Pic

My client wants me to add a functionality which would enable him upload and resize the pictures. His server is having ASPUPLOAD and e-kov components intalled. Also he doesn't want to write files to the disk and save only to memory.

I can use ASPUPLOAD's functionality to save files in memory or save files in the database. My question is how can I access a file so that I can resize the image using e-kov software. And when using 'upload.save' only, without path, it saves the file virtualy but where does the file and how to access it.

Resizing Images?

I have a web page which pulls images from a access database.

The images are displayed on the page from a recordset (objRS("Thumbnails") - Thumbnails being the field in my database that holds each image.

However, because I want the images display in thumbnail format, it means I have to open Photoshop and resize each image to thumbnail size (100 x 100) before adding them to the database.

Is there a way in ASP that I could code so that each image brought in from the record set, no matter what size, will display at 100 x 100px so I don't have to manually resize them to thumbnail size myself?

Resizing Linked Images

I've been tasked with the challenge of re-sizing images linked via BBcode on the fly. I have compiled a list of functions that do individual components of this task, but stringing them together has proved, well, a challenge.

I discovered this code that will re-size the images, however this will need to be added on an ad-hoc basis, and the fact that the image name appears twice complicates the usual system I used to add the code.

Usual way of replacing the code (inside a function):

Code:

vText = Replace(vText,"[ img ]","<div align='center'><img align='middle' src='")
vText = Replace(vText,"[/ img ]","'></div>")

Uploading Images To Database

My database only has an image field (sql2005).

All the tutorials I find have the databse with additional fields like Filename, FileSize, FileData, FileID, Contenttype, etc.

I want to upload into ONLY that image field because my windows app accesses the same database, and it doesn't use those additional fields. does someone out there have a tutorial or some code example or SOMETHING related to uploading a file into a SQL database?

The basic use of the picture (jpg or gif) would be similar to ebay or an Avatar on a forum. Would it be better to store the picture it the database or the link?

Uploading And Inserting Images Into A Homepage

I'm trying to improve the way that our press team update images on our homepage. At present the headline link and text is inserted using a submission form that writes to a database. However the accompanying image is inserted by placing the image on a blank web page (headline.asp) and using an include on the homepage to insert it into the appropriate cell next to the headline text.

I would like to add an 'upload image' function to the news submission form that would allow the press team to browse to the image file and insert this into the same location. The upload function would therefore have to automatically send the image to headline.asp.

Uploading Images/Files To Server

Other than creating a custom component or purchasing one, isn't there
any other way by which users can upload images/files from their local
machines/hard disks to a remote server? Doesn't ASP have any in-built
component to do so?

If that's indeed the case, can someone suggest any free components
(not trial ones) which can be used to upload images/files from users'
local machines/hard disks to a server?

Uploading Images/Creating Directories

I have only been developing small sites using asp and Access database. I want to advance my skills and develop a large site. Basically, I need direction in relation to having a user set up an acct., and once set up, being able to upload images. FrontPage (dare I say it) has always enabled me to allow visitors to upload one image at a time, and then only to a specific directory. What I want is the ability to have someone upload a specified amount of images to a directory that is created when they opened their account. ie., /tom/images If anyone knows of of good tutorials on this, I sure would appreciate it. I also want the ability to check images file size and dimesions, and resize or reject if neccessary. Can I learn how to do this w/out buying some program online.

I need a simple function to generate and save a thumbnail from a picture. It would require:

Source Picture Fileame
Thumbnail Height and Width
Thumbnail Filename

There are many pay programs available but they do far more than I require and I want the code to be built in to my code, not operate as a separate program. Any ideas? The browser knows how to resize pictures easily enough, and that is free! Is there no way to capture this with ASP?

Controling Thumbnail Proportions

I've built a job site, that allows employers/agencies to load their logos up which appear on each advert. Currently the max size limits of images are 600*200. Anything under these dimensions are uploadable.

The problem is that I have a control page that displays and manages all their logos. If their images are of different widths, it makes the page look tacky. So, is there a way of making all their thumbnails that appear on this page, all the same widths, but still in proportion height wise?

ie:
600*200 will display 200*66. (1/3 size)
400*180 will display 200*90. (1/2 size)

In otherwords, the width to be 200px, and proportional height wise.

Any ideas on how to do this?

Thumbnail Size Control

i am displaying images from a database using code like this Code:

strSQL = "SELECT DISTINCT * FROM tblInfo WHERE RecordID = " & strID & ""

oRs.Open strSQL, conn

Response.Write "<tr><td><a href='images/" & oRs ("PictureName") & "'><img src='images/" & oRs ("PictureName") & "' border=0></a></td>...

if seen examples of resizing images as they are uploaded, but is there a way to get size attributes just having a path? What I like to be able to do is only resize the picture to a thumbnail with a width of 75pixels, only if the image is over 75 pixels wide. Is this possible?

On The Fly Image Resizing

I have a load of images on a server, but I don't want to resize the original images. I want to display the images on a page but at a reduced size.

Just forcing the browser to display the images at a smaller size using the width/height attributes is not really acceptable as the picture looks like *** (a technical term if ever there was one :P).

Ideally I want to see if there is the functionality to properly resize, i.e. resample?, the image on the fly. Im not interested in storing the images just resizing and displaying.
