Write Permissions Using Scripting.TextStream Object
In Windows 2000 I need permissions set so that I can write a text file to the folder when the asp page is loaded. Right now I have only these permissions set:
Administrator: Full
System: Full
Everyone: Read and Execute, List, Read
Network: Read and Execute. List. Read
Is there some other "user" that I can give permissions to to write a text file to the folder that doesn't allow write permissions to IUSER_MachineName?
I have so far been unable to get the TextStream Object to write on Fat32. I'm using Windows 2000 Pro Sp4. Scripts have write access and I even tried giving IUSR user level writes and still when I tried loading the ASP page it just hangs trying to create the file :(.
<% Function WriteText(sPath, sText) Dim fso, TextFile
Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
I previously used PWS on Win 98. Nothing special had to be done locally for a directory that contained an Access database.
But on the Web host I had to do this:
Access Permissions | [Go to proper folder] | Anonymous account given permission of Change
Now I've just gotten a PC with Win XP Pro and have just installed IIS. My development Web sites work fine locally except whenever the ASP page tries to write data to the database, then there is an error message at the line that first tries to write data.
What can I do to modify my settings?
I read something about NTFS, but my PC's drive is not set up with that. Is NTFS something that I need or is there hopefully another solution?
trying to set up my first windows hosted site with database i have a folder db with my database and i'm using macromedia can i use macromedia to set write permissions for this directory?
we're working on a cms system that allows the admin to upload files to the server - the host (supplied by the client) says that opening write permissions means that windows is open to exploits.
we're using FSO to move the file anyone know a way of locking down this so its not 'open to exploits' ?
i need to set read/write persmissions on an Access DB, can access IIS folder permissions -> not alleviating issues can't access explorer security -> why is this? ad infinitum require UPDATE operation on access DB, this erroring out with : Operation must use an updateable query.
I'm at a complete loss on what is causing this error. ActiveX Can't create object:"Scripting.FileSystemObject when executing the code below. Every example I've looked at is pretty much identical except for the file names.
What I am ultimately trying to accomplish is when clicking on a link check to see if a file with today's date exists if so link to it. If not, link to a file with yesterday's date.
I am writing a VBS File Which will Take Data from an SQL Database and put it into a text file. I am getting an error on: myFile.Write NewLine (myFile is set to FSO.CreateTextFile, and NewLine is the text I am trying to write)
I have found this error is being produced When I try to "write" this text from the database:
<p><b>Movin’ On Printed Throw Blanket</b></p><p>
The Problem is on this "Square" Charecter. I used the Asc() Function and got the Charecter value as 63, and Did a replace on it and it still does not work. I don't know how this charecter got in the database in the first place. I don't know if that charecter will show up correctly on this forum. But the character just looks like an empty box.
I have an asp page which opens a large (190 lines) text file. I hold the text file open and retrieve the lines, one at a time until there is no more lines to retrieve. The trouble is that I keep getting the error message
Microsoft VBScript runtime (0x800A003E) Input past end of file
I understand that there is more lines in my code than there is in the textstream, but I have tried to use several functions to stop the code from reading further. Including do while f.AtEndofStream = false and while not f.AtEndofStream = true. I have also tried to count the lines in the file before reading each line. Nothing has solved this error.
I understand that in some text files the AtEndofStream can be influenced by CRLF's after the data, but can anyone shed some light on this?
What I'm trying to do is take a really long text file and just pull out key lines in the file based on the first word on the line to create a new text file with just the lines I select for written.
I'm comfortable with the opening and creating textfile part, but how would I scan through the source file and only readline when I hit line that starts with a keyword, then append that to the new file and keep going until the next keyword or file end? That's what I can't figure out.
The script below does what it i supposed to on a remote server, but when run on my local host, it hangs endlessly. Do I need to do something on my computer to accommodate this ability to create folders?
Set objFSO = Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") folder = Server.mapPath("images/rentals") & "/" & Request("l_name") objFSO.CreateFolder(folder) Set objFSO = Nothing
I am trying to get a database working on my site but I am very New to ASP. what I want to do is if ther is a match in a database to automatically sent a msg to the user to say there is a match.
I've got a freebie hosting mirror of my production personal website (sounds kinda grandiose, doesn't it?) at http://journeys.webhostme.com/. At the production website I was using Scripting.FileSystemObject to get the date that the file was last modified and to read/write a counter text file for the number of hits that the whole site had. The freebie has a kind of half-ass*d FileSystemObject, but it has no GetFile method. Is there any way I can accomplish the same things without using the FileSystemObject, or by using the crippled one?
This ASP script below is sitting on a Windows 2000 IIS Server Box and the fldr was pointing to Bradford2 emp which was a Windows 2000 server and worked great, now I changed the fldr to point to Bradford7 emp which is a Windows 2003 R2 server. After pointing to Windows 2003 R2 box the FolderExists(fldr) no longer works. The directory is there and all the permissions are the same from Bradford2 to Bradford7. Dim fldr, fso fldr = "radford7 emp" Set fso = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") If NOT fso.FolderExists(fldr) Then ' Folder Found Else ' Folder Not Found End If
I have a form who's action is an ASP page used to verify the form data. If the data passes, it re-directs to a cgi script. Otherwise, it redirects back to the form page and shows the appropriate error messages. The problem, however, is that the data is lost once it goes thru the validation page. It doesn't get sent on to the cgi script, and it doesn't get sent back to the form page if the data validation fails.
What I need to know is how I can pass the values that were entered on to the cgi script or back to the form page after validation. Or, better yet, how to do the validation on the form page itself, and only proceeding to the cgi script (the form's action) if validation passes.
I need to set an online directory and file the write permissions, fot JET to use it's temp file whthout problems.
Im using ACE FTP Freeware, and the properties I ask for each element directory and each file says that the write permissions are OK, but I still got errors while trying to update it online. How can I change IIS permissions?
I have a compiled activex dll component on my server. When I log into the website under the administrator I can successfully access the dll, however using another windows NT user simply shows 'unable to create component due to permission'.I have ensured that the user in question has all writes to the dll file on the server, including the IUSR and IWAM accounts.
I have been "hitting the wall with my head" for couple of weeks now, what I need is a way to automatically generate ftp script that will be run when I click the download link on the site that is made using asp technology (not asp.net). How can I do that, can anyone give me some helpfull information ? I am using windows2003 server, with IIS and FTP server set up.
i got somethiung about permissions or something, like when i goto my site, and theres a bunch of bs about folder permissions set to non read... whats up witht that????
I was reading up on ASP for a report and it talked about scripting languages. It also talked about using VBScript or Javascript as a scripting language? What exaclty is a scripting language and why do you have to use it?
Does anyone know of an asp script, online somewhere, that I can use to find out the permissions of a folder? My ISP says these folders have full permissions, but my programs say "permission denied". I don't know if it is the programming, or if the folder don't really have the right permissions.
I want to script real-time data FROM financial Web sites TO an MS Access db. on a PC (no server issues). Is this possible? If so what should I use ASP VBScript, ASP.NET VB or something else
I keep getting"Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN " errors pointing to my connection string when the same connection string is working for a few of my other pages. The MSAccess database does have the right permissions configured. Below is code I'm using:
<% dbcon="DBQ=" & Server.Mappath("diary.mdb") & ";Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};" Set calConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") calConn.Open dbcon%> <%dim freetsql,rsfree freetsql = "select text_field from diary where dte ='" & dfm & "'" set rsfree = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset") rsfree.Open freetsql,calConn,3 %>
I know this isn't the best group to ask this in - but I also know a lot of you have experience with this kind of stuff I'm going to be creating a site where customers will be able to set up their own sub-site (ie. www.mysite.com/theirsubsite). I'll need to be able to create virtual directories on-the-fly, so I plan on using ADSI to accomplish this. My question is - what are my options when it comes to permissions? Will I need to give the IUSR account admin permissions to create these directories, or is there some way to impersonate an admin account on the script creating the directories? Has anyone dealt with this before?
i need to allow my ASP app to append and use data in text file, but restrict users from pointing directly to it and opening it for viewing.
what permissions should be set for the text file and is there a special way to access the file from the my ASPs? i am use JET ISAM driver to had data access to the text file. it all works fine except for the problem i mention. also, i have to reset permissions when ever i upload from my PC to development and production sites.
Does anyone know if the ASP scripting technology has a support lifecycle at Microsoft? Is there any information on if/when ASP as an application platform will no longer be supported by Microsoft? I have a customer that wants to know if they stay w/ a mission critical ASP based application, will Microsoft will still provide support (updates, security patches...) for the ASP technology it is built on.
