I am trying to run a script that will add users to a database so they can register with the site. ive got it working so that the users are added however i am trying to prevent people from registering the same username or email address and this is not working.
the script firstly checks that the user has filled out all the fields in the form from the previous page then the script is supposed to check the database for the username and email then adds the user if it is all ok however if the fields have all been filled out it simply adds the users anyway. here is one of the check scripts i am using VBscript and an access database .....
I am working on a document management system for a client. I am planning to set up the system so that documents are protected, sort of.. A user has an access level and based on that access level, a list of available documents will display as an HTML page and the user can click a hyperlink to download or view the selected document.
I am planning to handle this all through a SQL database and ASP..
What I would REALLY like to do, though, is protect a set of directories so that a user could not just enter a URL and download a document without being prompted for a username and password if he/she hasn't already logged in.
I have done something like this using AuthnetiX from Flicks Software, but this current client is trying to create a solution "on the cheap", and so I'd like to see if I can build the solution using the secuirty mechanisms built into the O/S.
What I'm thinking is that I'll set up the directories and assign a group access to each directory.. My question then is, can I add users to the "Local Users and Groups" for Windows 2000 via ASP?
I am using an application I have put together which unfortunately uses an Access database. I say unfortunately, as I have got a lot of users hitting the db at the same time - inserting and updating... plus retrieving information.
Is there a way I can safeguard inserts and updates or at least have more friendly error pages so that the user can retry to send their data... ? I don't want pages to simply fall over because there are too many users.if this is possible. Even if there is a delay or some other technique I can employ, so that inserts can be queued?
When more than one user tries to access my system, one user gets his page processed, and the other users recieve an error message stating:
Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'
Could not use ''; file already in use.
/processweb/html/cpr/admin/sel_sc.asp, line 25
I am using ASP 2, MS Access 97 and IIS 4. Any ideas why only one user is allowed to access the database simultaneously? The database file itself is closed.
I have a hunch it may be because the IUSR_[machine name] user account on the web server does not have access to the *.ldb database locking information file... Does this sound like a plausible reason?
I am tryin to create a database of users for my system, each user is given a username based on their own name(surname and first name), however if 2 users with the same or similar name enter their details they will be given the same username, for example john drew would return drewj as thier username, so would jack drew, when a new user is entering their details how do i check that the username generated for them does not already exist,i.e i need to compare the username generated for the new user with all usernames already held in the database,if the username does already exist i want to add a digit to the end of the username how is this done using asp?
Basically everytime I need a page to access a database I will create a connection object, and then at the end of the page I will close the connection object.
Would it be more sensible to create all the connections to the database that a user will need when they first visit the site, and then close these connections once they leave the site. (Using something to do with Start Session and End Session).
Right now I think I've got the idea on how to work on ASP pages after such a hectic start, then I 've got a small problem . i have contructed my form but i can't seem to add to the dbase, i can fill the info but i see nothing on my dbase.
I have been working on this form for a couple of weeks already but I keep running into errors after errors. Can someone try to test it on their computer and see if it works? My guess is that our server's setting is causing all these problems. All the files are uploaded.
I am trying to add entries in a database together and place the summed value into a text box. Like a total ordered type function for an ecommerce site. I have a field called ArmChairs in my database and based on how many people buy them, I want to know how many I need to have shipped.
I am really struggling with this last bit and would be really appreciative if someone has some code examples.
i cant add a record to my access database! i think the code is right which i used asp script but then only blank record was added! It added a record but then no data in it! Code:
This code has worked in the past on this same page, and for some reason it doesn't want to calculate the numbers anymore. Anyone see anything that is out of whack?
Basically I am taking the input numbers for each field and adding them up on one column, then taking the totals of all of those columns and adding it up to display as an overall total. Code:
I'm trying to add a record to an access database using asp. I create the database, the input form where i put the information, the asp code where i process the information and last the asp code to view the record added but when i press the submit button it show me a Downloading box for a downloaing process.
I am trying to make a guestbook, wich should be accessable through a executable exe. I think, the easyest way to do this, is through your browser. I am looking how to add text to a database without entering text in a form, but only text in the address bar of your browser.
I am trying to write a basic holiday booking system for the company I work for, it is quite simple in that the user selects the dates they want off work, and they can view if it has been approved or not. It has an admin screen so that the manager can go in and approve the holiday request.
To do this I would like the admin screen to display all the dates in the database that the user has selected off and to have a checkbox next to each that the manager can select to approve it. However I don't know how I would do this, at present all it does is read the info in the database. Code:
how to accept ' or apostrophe when adding on the database? because I created a simple guestbook and when i tested it it works fine but once i add apostrophe like TOY'S etc it generates error.
Except for extremely basic ASP programming that I did two years ago and have forgotten I have not touched coding since!
I've taken a look at a couple of tutorials but they all baffle me!
Can anyone tell me how I can just create a simple html form with input fields of FirstName, LastName, Email and Phone amd when the user hits submit it is recorded in an access database?
I can do the HTML part fine. And I believe I've set up access ok although Ive never used it before.
Also, if the server that the database will go on is a Microsoft one i suspect that is ok? Im not sure if all i have to do is upload the database and it will work? or do i need to talk to my hosting company to set up some kind of odbc thing that ive heard about?
My database will just be called clients.mdb and the table is called Customers.
I want to add a row to library table. Table has total 7 fields. But I want to create the new row with 5 field data. When I run the following query in MS Access
strQ = "INSERT into library (index, title, author, itemtype, createdate) VALUES ('B-096','Hihihihihi','hello','Book','07/18/04')"
It successfully adds the row. But same thing I am trying with the following ASP code. It gives error, saying syntax error in INSERT into statement. Code:
actually, I have a problem while i want to add, delete, or edit a record to a database through a asp page, I can read well but when i want to submit changes using rds object , the data does not change on the source database,
I tried hard to get a solution but i think that the actual problem is only on one figure which is the server value of the data control when i use my own iis server, I do not know this value and microsoft is saying use an empty value but it does not work either.
Let's say I have a dynamic list/menu, which gets its values from a database table, for example a list of contact people where the value is an ID number and the label is the name. However, if the value the user wants is not in the list I would like to place a hyperlink which will...
(1) open a small window, with an ASP form to allow the user to add a new entry
(2) save the entry to the database
(3) add that value to the list/menu in the parent window and make it the selected option
(4) close the small window and return to the original window.
I can handle the code for 1,2 and 4, but 3 is what I'm not sure about. I don't like the idea of forcing the user to leave the current screen, go to some other form, add the entry they need to the lookup table, then come back; this seems like a logical approach, but just wondering how to make it work.
This seems like a common enough situation; anyone have any code samples or suggestions about how to do this?
I want to be able to log in a database any transactions my users perform. For example logging in, requesting a page, downloading a resource, logging out etc.
What is the most practical way to code this? I was thinking of trying to use an include file which would have a function to add a log in the database for each page on the site or when a particular action is performed.
How do we have a track of users who have logged in? I want to have a table of record with usernames and the status(logged in or logged out).
Whenever the user logs in, the status shud indicate he is logged in and when he logs out the status shud change accordingly. Does anybody know how to do this???
I am using asp codes to connect to my access database. But i have a query in mind. Will my database still work if more than 1 user is logon to edit the database records?
is this a permissions issue that happened at the server side When I go to one of the .asp pages it brings up the "malicious code" prompt, asking whether I should open or save the file. How do I make it so it just executes the file?
My database tables uses two users, namely dbo. and viss. so in sql server 2005, every table has the following name structure:
dbo.members viss.customers etc
In source code, sql queries are used without adding usernames. Like,
INSERT INTO members UPDATE customers
Now I get sql erros as 'invalid tablename members' to solve this I add username to query, like dbo.members. That would solve the problem, but is there an easier way to solve this? Because I'm working with a complicated application and it has allot of files, adjusting each query is an option but any other solution? Code:
I have a database that is setup with a messages table... I have been asked to modify the following script to do the following...
Message ALL Users or Message All Admins or Message Individual Users (with the option to select multiple users - such as 2 or 3) or Message Individual Admins...
The Database is designed with a User table and each user is assigned a "Type" such as "admin" or "user" - can anyone look at the following and give me an idea how to implement this function?
It needs to be setup where the admins and users are seperated so its ok to have two Options boxes that display a users section and a admin section..
I have an intranet which all staff have access to. All staff can log in to the intranet to amend their own personal info. Currently staff have seperate passwords for logging on to their machines (ie ACL on network server) and logging on to the intranet.
Is it possible to have someone automatically logged in to the intranet based on their windows username and password for the domain?
Just wondering if anyone else has tried this. I think I saw this as an option in ASP.NET but my intranet is built using ASP.
I want to create a page in ASP language which gives me information about currently logged users. I thought to do it by this way: when somebody will log in to page, there will be a value of this user id stored in the table among the other fields in the form which are filling in. After clicking on the button "Log off" the value of the user id will be deleted from the MS SQL Server 2000 database. I would do it, but I don`t know how to solve the problem when somebody will close the Internet Explorer window by clicking "x". Then the procedure of deleting a value of user id will not call, and this value will be still stored in the database, so I will not have actual state of currently logged users.Maybe there is another possiblity to do it?
