I want to track the steps the user has gone through to get to this page and then display links so they can click on them to go back to that page. I would do this as hard code but the problem is most of the pages can be accessed from several different pages.
ex.
a product page a home page and a specials page
the path to the product can be home -->product or
home-->specials --> product
exactly like the viewing link at the top of this page but in asp.net instead of php.
Isn't there some line of code that I can write to tell ASP to treat everything between BLAH and /BLAH as text (including the apostrophe). So that users can type a name of "O'Malley" in a form and I can retrieve it and store it in my database.

I am working on this intranet website which includes access mdb for storing employee ratings. In this website I am using table which consists of username and paswords of the users who can log in. i developing a web site and having a login function. i want my web site to track down the time between a user logged in and log out the website and stored it into database. when next time the user come in again, the time he spent in the web site will add on to the record in the database. may know where i can look for the information about this function or coding to refer?
I'm trying to prevent a user to go back once on a particular page...i mean once the user reaches a particular page and he/she tries to click on the back button of the browser, the page does not go back. Is that possible please?
I've created a asp form that the user submits, the information is wriiten to a database and the user is redirected to a thankyou page
The problem is, if the user presses their browsers back button the form the just submitted is still filled and allows them to resubmit the form.
How can I clear the form session once the user clicks the submit button? I've read about this before, but can't seem to find the darn webpage that explains this.
I want to empty the forms fields when a user clicks on the back button. I wrote some js that will do this, but I can't figure out the right time to execute the script. If I do it on the submit form event, the values entered do not get posted, if I do it on the <body> onLoad event, the form name isn't recognized (the page posts to itsself). I also tried putting the js in a <script> tag inline just after the form, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.
When someone buys something on my site from a detail page, I show them a cart. When they hit continue shopping, the only option I have right now is to take them back to the detail page. What I really would like to do is take them all the way back to the catalog page they used to get to the detail.

I have created a form in which people insert there fax number, at the moment it returns an error if a space is inserted in the fax number ie: 0234 76893. How do I correct this?
Is there any other way to write files to a directory than allowing the IUSR write access. We have a website that will be writing XML files and Label files to a directory outside of our website directory but I am hesitant to give the generic IUSR account write access to anything and wondered if we could asign a different account or if there was some sort of ASP script we could use. These files will be created based on a received XML string (used for label generation) then saved to the server for archiving and/or recreation of the labels.
I want my clients to be able to print straight to some of our printers over the internet. The reason: 1) So I don't have to purchase all the applications they have, simply to print their data. & 2) So they can have access the printer drivers options.
Sharing a printer on the internet isn't wise, which is why I thought of doing it via a website. And a few factors came into mind:
1) will the data be secure? maybe encrypted even? 2) who will be able to print to it? 3) can a client only print, once his deposit payment has gone through the payment system?
Has anyone been able to make such a project work? I tried Google, and most of the stuff refers to the HP internet-print print server, which won't work in our scenario, since we have printers that work on LPR, their controllers are OS/2, and the supplier won't change it just for one company.
One of my client is requiring that a section of his website to be restraint. It is currently in ASP. The visitor will be attributed an access code. This access code will be alpha numeric and contain 6 digits.
When my user will be entering this digit he will be allowed one hour access to the website. I guess the best way to do this is thru cookies. Any experience on this ?
I have a form that submits values to an asp page. If their is an error on the asp page that is called and you go back to the first page with the form. The values are not in the form.
How can I set the value back into form without the user having to retype them in? If I use hidden fields on the first asp page and I go back to that page wouldn't the values for the hidden fields be empty as well?
I have a fairly advanced order processing / tracking system I designed with MS Access, MySQL & ASP.
I want to add an enhanced order tracking facility where a user can send an email to a specific address we set up, with an ID & PO Number in the subject / body, and then have our system reply with the required information.
Is this done with asp or something completely different ? When an email comes in, what would auto scan all incomming emails and read the data ?
Is there a special component I need for this. I just want this to happen in the background, whilst possibly sending me an alert email each time the system is used. This will help me guage the services required.

Passing data through querystrings isn't ideal as people might go and type a url in to move around.
Imagine a CD of say 20 songs. Each song is a table row
[Title] [Artist] [TrackNo]
I need a way for the user to change the way the songs are listed by allowing them to change the track numbers. What is the smartest way to do this? I think it would be kind of trick to have a couple of <IMG> up and down arrows per each song. The user would click on either the up or down arrow to move the song accordingly. But I don't know how to go about that. Whatever variables are passed, the process would have to check to see if there is another track# +/- 1 each time.
Then I thought maybe it would be easier to just list the songs with a form box next to each song where the user manually entered the desired order,then submit the form. But that also has it's share of issues like checking for existing track numbers, users who can't count,etc.

Ok I would like to create some tracking. I know you can apply tracking based on a graphic that has been downloaded from the email. How would I be able to track an image download from the server.
I've built an email application which uses the 'ASPEmail' component to send mail to a list of around 3000 subscribers.
It's not possible with the stats software I have to track individual graphics - which would have been a good way to track the number of people who looked at the email. So is there any other way to do this tracking? Will javascript work well in mail clients, or can I embed a hidden iframe etc?
i've got a client that wants to be able to review records about IIS generated emails.
in his own words, he wants the "ability to track and report message status (i.e. how many messages were sent successfully, how many were blocked, how many bounced back with an incorrect address)"
i'd start by adding a new row containing the email address, dateTime, etc when first sending the email, but how to track the rest of the info? for instance, if an email bounces back, does it bounce back to IIS or to the "from" email address? what about the blocked (i.e. spam filter) emails? is there a way to track blocked email? since most spam filters don't generate response emails, there's not much i can really do about this, is there?
this will be run off an IIS6 server. can anybody tell me my options?
