i have developed a library in vb6 to import an excel file ftom client to a
sql 2000 table on the server.This object must run at server.
How can i create this object on a web asp page?
Does it run if the oject use Excel library but on the server Excel is not
installed?

I have some simple asp work coming up in the near future and was wondering if anyone had some recomendations on books. I'm a bit of a newbie to ASP. I've done a bit with vb.net and asp.net using vb.net but I havent really used classic asp. If you guys could reccomend an into to asp book and a asp to asp.net conversion book I would appreciate it.

Photo Library
i am not sure that this subject can be discussed here. i have many photos. they are stored according to the name of the EVENT and YEAR. i will set up a database (sql or access) to store information of the photo and set up a folder to store the "PHOTOs". and design a web page to show.
My question is how to put the photo on the web page:
i prefer the simplest and effortless method. Once the user takes the photos (5m pixel photo) and upload them and input the event name & year. then it is finished.
any tools can be used? which programming language is most suitable. i noted many web sites have this feature but i don't know how many effort at the back end?

I've just ploughed my way through Beginning Active Server Pages 3.0 by Wrox Press (and i have to say it was pretty good. Easy reading, easy to understand. I get really bored reading, but found myself wanting to read the whole book, anyway...) I need to be an ASP expert (well at least write decent scripts that work !)
Kevin Yank reviews both Professional ASP pages & ASP 3.0 programmers reference and gives 5/5 for each. Has anyone read both of these two and could suggest which is the better?

I intend to make an online shop for a few web sites.
I would like to build it myself from scratch in ASP.NET using VB.
I don't want to buy any software etc because I would like to gain the experience of building it myself.

I am getting "A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed" error
in IIS 6.0 on Windows 2003 server.
I have this same code working on WiN-NT.

Wanting To Build A .NET Library
I seem to have a very good library for PHP, XML, Cold Fusion, Flash, JavaScript, and Java..but Im wanting to begin building some helpful references for ASP.net. I got one book called "Designing ASP.net Applications" from Microsoft, but it, sadly, wasnt very good for someone like me thats starting out.
Can we use this thread to possibly suggest good books on ASP.net, VB.net, C#, etc that have helped you, and perhaps others can benefit from it, as well as me?

We've had a recurring problem where all of a sudden we get a DBMSSOCN General Network Error on any page that connects to SQL Server. Then we have to reboot the server and everything works fine again, for a few more hours and then we have the same problem. Someone suggested adding ";Network Library=DBMSSOCN" to our connection strings. I've tried to figure out exactly what this does and why not having it would be a problem.

ADOX Code, Books, Online Reference
I want to learn to manage my Access database schema (add tables, drop tables, add columns, etc.) remotely by accessing it through ADOX. Microsoft's online documentation is OK, but the code samples are buggy and they're in VB, not VBScript.

System DSN
Since details like database server, login, database etc is stored inside the
DSN do I really need to specify the login while using DSN
My VB programs works without login id but not my ASP programs..
POS System
I want to stick with VB on this project. The only problem I have with this is that I might have a problem with printing. The POS system is designed on a small 10-15 computer networked system. They are all good systems so nonone say that it may be a little to intensive for the systems.
Now once the system runs through basic checks: change exchange, enough money to pay, and other smaller features then it has to print the invoice. Now we have a small Epson Thermol (prints like Lazer) printer. How would my VB application send that information to the printer?
System DSN
Microsoft, in one of its "Help & Support" pages on ADO, says that a System DSN is three times faster than a File DSN. I find that a bit odd for the simple reason that won't it be faster for a script to access a file to get info about the database source than access the same info from the registry which will be the case if a System DSN is used
instead of a File DSN?
Email System
I wanna build an email/messaging system whereby all members of a portal can send messsages to each other (internally). An example of this application would be the system available in www.friendster.com whereby all friendster members can message each other. Each member has his/her own inbox, trash, sent messages and so on. Can anyone help me with this? I would be eternally grateful

ELeave System
I have been working on a simple eLeave System. I would like to get more advice of my db design. Basically, I have 2 tables here: user and leave_application. I will just put the relevant field needed for leave calculation.
user: date_employment, type, t_annual_entitled, t_annual_actual_taken, t_annual_balance
leave_application: date_leave_from, date_leave_to
There are 2 values under type, E - Executive and NE - Non-Executive.
Example
- If type = E, t_annual = 22
- If date_employment = 7 July 2005, t_workingdays = 187
- So, my formula for t_annual_entitled = (22 * 187) / 365
So, is my db design and my formula okay for this system? Any other better ways?
Newsletter System
Created a basic ASP/ADO/Access 2000 Newsletter system using JMail.
Basically client has 300+ subscribers and wants to send 1 newsletter email
to them all every 1 - 2 months.
Missed my client's call to say it wasn't working, but having checked with my
ISP (FastHosts), they have some kind of embargo on the amount of emails that
can be sent every 10 seconds.
