I'm not a professional programmer, but I am responsible for our company's intranet site which includes many of my own VB.NET and come C# custom web apps as well as SharePoint Services 3.0 (very soon).
We have a web form that will be created into a web part, and we need to have this form essentially create a new account on our FTP server. This server is on our DMZ and isolated from our domain completely. It is running Windows 2000 (not server edition) and prior to my being with this company, I have been told an idiot was in charge of creating accounts upon request by employees, so they bought him some cheap $45 version of WinFTP because he didn't understand IIS. We have a legacy, P.O.S. Access database/application that we use for production tracking at work. We are wanting to design a new web application for our intranet to replace it as well as use an Oracle database. I have not used ASP.NET before, but I'm going to start learning so I can work on the new application. In the meantime, I'm thinking of the things I'll need to be able to implement to have this work how we need it to:
1. Convert the Access tables to Oracle and serve them on the intranet
2. Create web forms in ASP.NET to replace the forms used by the Access application
3. Regulate user privileges so that certain users only have access to certain features. This was easy in Access, but I need some sort of administrative area of the new web app. to add new users and regulate their permissions.
Regarding number 3, how would you guys go about doing this? I'm also open to input on the other areas as well.
Windows Auth With Local User Accounts Or SSL
I have question about whether it is best to use windows local user accounts to authenticate against when logging into a website OR using SSL for any communication sent to and from the web server. I know these are slightly different issues here, but I will explain my situation.
Clients will log onto my website and will be gived user access based upon their username and password. Therefore I initially wanted to use windows local user accounts and restrict anon access within IIS. However, I am thinking it would be just as secure to use HTML/ASP webpage and database access to the website, as long as the data was encyrpted.
A Little Like Hotmail Deleting......
Ive run into a little trouble. I am sure all of you have used hotmail. Well you know when you select all items to delete, i would like to do something like that, however not delete, but update a field from no to yes.
I would like to add checkboxes to an asp table. So if the user selects say three items they then click on a button, say marked and for each item, it will go to the table and find each record in turn and update the corresponding field from a no to a yes.
Updating is no problem. The problem is, how do i add checkboxes to corresponding asp table. So that particular checkbox corresponds to that particular record. I don't know how to link them together.
Can someone help me out please?

I know that hotmail has a service (may be XML) that allows you to retrieve the Hotmail/MSN contact list. I want to make a page with a form - [hotmail username] and [password] - and then generate another page with all the contacts list (like hi5.com, myspace.com, birthdayalarm.com, ringo.com or sms.ac do).

I am using cdonts in my asp scripts to send emails to the users of my website.But every mail to i send to an hotmail account gets in de hotmail spam folder.is there anyway to prevent this from happening?

And you can usually connect it to say hotmail, yahoo messenger and it will automatically send out email to my contacts that I joined a new site.
Sending Htm Mail With Cdosys To Hotmail
When I send htm mail to hotmail using cdosys the links appear like this " javascriptl("news01.htm"); " without quotes, the images appears in the worng place and they shows as attached, but when I send the same mail to Outlook there is no problem, the links and images apeears in the right place, there is no problem with it jus in hotmail or free web based application mail. (yahoo, gmail, hotmail, etc...)
Somebody Knows why??

For some reason, the email scripts on my web site can't send emails to

I have code that validates the email format, making sure the @ and . are in the right place, but there is a frequent problem with people submitting their email address on my forms that seem to think their email address begins with "www." (ex: www.bob112020@aol.com), which leads inevitably to bad emails in our list.
Anyone know how to automatically remove "www." from a form text field when it is found?

I am trying to figure out how the heck to change the title tags and pull the events title into the title tag of the HTML template, which is controlling the title tag now.
Every title tag on the site displays the same thing and I would like it to display the name of that days event.I don't really know anything about asp.The only thing I could get it to pull in was the whole entire script when I put %%CONTENT%% in the html template or some JavaScript when I put %%STYLES%%
