I have an asp page that queries a db and displays the data in an html table. This page has a hyperlink that goes to another asp page that is meant to load the same data table in Excel. This all works fine on windows 2000. This app has been running now for close to a year.
On XP however I get an error message ststing that the Temporary file whatever.xls could not be found. Check the spelling and verify if the file location is correct. This has happened on all XP boxes. I can save the file and then open but users don't want that extra click.
The code in the asp file that is meant to spawn Excel looks like this: ...
I'm converting a VB6/SQL Server application to a web application. I need to read data to and from Excel and Word. I'm not allowed to install Excel and Word on the server, only on the client. Is there a way to use client side scripts to read from and write to Excel/Word files?
With ASP, how can I automatically add records to a database with an excel file residing on the user's machine? Assuming the excel file has the same field names/datatypes/order as my database table's fields.
is it possible to open an excel file (used as a template) from server using server-side vbscript; then modify it or add values from client using client-side vbscript?
What is the cause of that "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Too many client tasks" error? I'm having a trouble listing posts from my database and giving me such output. Is there a limit in number of simultaneous user who can connect in the database? Or is it the server that's why it produced an error like that.
I just upgraded to Windows XP Pro from Windows 2000 Pro. All my ASP stuff seems to work, except that when an ASP page generates an error, and the Error handling is set to "On Error Goto 0" the page just stops, as if I typed a response.end, and no error information is returned to the client. If I set On Error Resume Next, and write err.desc after the offending line, the error text is written correctly. For debug purposes of course it is nice to be able to immediately see the line number, and description though.
Anyway, does anybody know what setting I need to change to fix this? I have server side, and client side debug set, and I have it set to send detailed errors to the asp page.
Another interesting thing is if there is a compile-time error, like a syntax error, or something, the page doesn't load, but I get the error message until an error happens with the above condition, after that, it will just return a blank page.
I am getting an error on a page that uses asp to query a db then opens the page on the client in excel. The error is only occuring on XP boxes only. If I comment out the cache killers it opens fine but I want to make sure a user gets the most up to date data so I need some cache control in there. What can I do to fix this? Code:
I am trying to download a table of data from an ASP page into Excel. The link opens Excel OK and creates a worksheet with the name of the ASP page, but no data is transferred.
If I remove (comment out) the Response.ContentType line from my code, then the table appears on the asp page.
I have created one dynamic chart creation application using vb dll. If I call this function from vb it is working fine. But If i call this function from ASP i got error while opening the excel file line. I have windows 2000 server. Do i need to give any permission for this? The same coding is working fine in NT server.
I have an ASP page that loops through a SQL Server 2000 table, then downloads an Excel sheet the users can save, etc. Works fine, except, I see that in one particular "comments" field the Excel sheet returns a #VALUE! error in the cell when there is a large amount of text. I've looked through the MSKB, MSDN and many ng posts to see if there is a workaround or solution to this, including looking at the xlWorksheet properties. Is there a limitation of 255 chars that can be tranferred? When I copy and paste the text it copies into the cell fine.
The code below (partial) should export a file as Excel when the button near the bottom is clicked. The example I pulled the concept from uses a GridView for binding. I don't need to display it, just export it, so I created ExcelGrid visible=false at the bottom. The Response.Write(strQuery); is never getting executed. I get:
Exception Details: System.Web.HttpException: Control 'ExcelGrid' of type 'GridView' must be placed inside a form tag with runat=server.
I'm almost positive (from what you see below) that my ExcelGrid is inside the form tag, which contains the runat=server.
Any ideas? It works when you pull that code and just run the rest of the form so the runat=server is working for all of the other controls! Code:
i can use Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject") successfully, why this excel.application cannot work?is there any other way to read data from an excel file?
I am using an ASP script on my site that reads a microsoft excel file and adds the values to the database (MS SQL Server). The script works completely fine on my LOCAL server, but it shows me the following error when I upload it to the server and try to run it.
Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'
[Microsoft][ODBC Excel Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1128 Thread 0x2268 DBC 0xd2d0fec Excel'.
i have a website hosted with crystaltech which needs to send out reminder emails to customers on a day and time of their choosing. to do this i used the server sheduled tasks to call a page every hour which does a search checking for time and day that match and then loop thru the recordset sending out a CDONTS email to those records.
this would run fine for 12 - 15 hours and then the IIS would crash with the "Too many client tasks" error. this seemed strange as at most it would find one or 2 records matching the time. i presumed some error must be occuring (even though it was sending out emails correctly) and thus the recordset wasn't being closed correctly. Code:
I've been lurking and searching for a while and hope someday to contribute to the forums. My question though it may seem strange is this. Is it possible to run a compiled VB app on the client machine that is called from an asp app running on an intranet server? Intranet server pushes asp to client's web browser. Client clicks on a link that somehow runs the process on the client machine. I realize this is not what asp is meant to do but I do have some applications that could be integrated into the company intranet fairly easily if this is possible. A re-write in asp would be labor intensive. It is simple enough for me to setup standard folders on the clients that require these apps
I am developing an app that has a reporting function which displays the non-PDF reports. One of the users wishes to have the reports saved to his machine as PDFs.
The app can convert the reports, and save to the server with no problem (uses a component for this). The problem is, figuring out how to save the reports to the client.
The ideal approach would be to have the app save the reports to his desktop, like some of those stupid casino sites save their shortcut links.
However, I would settle for just just being able to force the "download" dialog to display, instead of opening Acrobat when the app attempts to send the report to the client.
im setting up a database email for my job and i still need a little help. Thx for those who helped me out for past touble...
Well, im now at the step of email deletion from the list and im using a simple script for that (cuz im new to programming).
After the customer received the email, i want him to be able to unsubscribe to my newsletter with a click on a link which lead to a delemail.asp page where the script is. Code:
I have a page which allows the user to open one of several spreadsheets by streaming the XLS to the client.
On my development site, everything appears to work fine. On the live site, it works fine for the vast majority of users, but not for my colleague & I.
When this page is called with the correct inputs, the standard Open/Save/Cancel/More Info dialog should appear. In the dialog, it gives the following details:
Filename: Gothenburg Sweden.xls File type: Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet From: Servername
Clicking on open, means that the file will be opened in the local copy of Excel; this works for most people, except one colleague and myself. In our case, after clicking on Open, we get the following error msg:
"Internet Explorer cannot open travel.asp?journey=1 from <servername> Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
I want to validate client entries into textbox, checkbox controls etc. can u do this with asp. Like, is there onchange and onclick and so on for these controls?
I'm currently working on an Intranet for one of our clients. I'm developing a user directory for them using a SQL Server database. My client has provided me with the information to connect to the server remotely via windows remote desktop connection. I would like to know how I go about getting Dreamweaver to connect to the database? Will I have to create a database locally and then publish the local database onto their server or, can I create the database on their server and using DW to connect to it?
This has happened before and it was due the connection string not being set in VB. My question is, when I try to reconnect can I use a different connection string on the client than I have on the server, I wonder because not all my connection strings are not equal.
Some of my database paths are in Access and the rest are in SQL. That means I have to retry several times before a scrip timeout occurs. If you have read this far then you are an idiot, but the rest of the database seems to work just fine. In fact I can pull all fields out with no problem. It is just that connection string that has resulted in causing my pages not to post.
I have created one ActiveX DLL in VB that has one public function ("GetClientCPUID") which will return a string of the CPUID. I want to use this to get the clients CPUID and retuern to webserver. I am new to using activeX in client side.
In Asp how can I send this ActiveX to client browser? (I will instruct my users to allow this activeX). Is there a way I will execute this activeX in clients PC and get the return value and return to the server for my processing? Please suggest the ways that I can do this.
Also suggest what are the situations that I should know before I proceed. I think there will might a issue when I upgrade the activeX and the client those are using the current one may face problem so I think I will need a way to uninstall the register the new one. Code:
I want to add clinet side javascript on the asp:dropdownlist's onchecked changed event how i do this does any one have any idea.i use the following method in vb.net code behind file
I have my asp pages stored in my server ,but when i try and call the asp pages in the clinet side it does not show a portion of the page, the same thing if i call from the server it shows me.
