Global.asa Intermittent Firing
Problem with global.asa not firing 100% of the time. This error crops
up several times throughout the day but if you wait a while and reload
the page (could be 5 mins or an hour) it will suddenly start working
again.
The error is:
ADODB.Recordset error '800a0bb9'
Arguments are of the wrong type, are out of acceptable range, or are in
conflict with one another.
/footer.asp, line 101
Line 101 in the footer.asp file reads:
InnovationRS.Open sql, Application("AnymousConnection")
I believe that bad code would produce a persistent error message. The
application would either work, or generate an error 100% of the time,
not be intermittent. The error is now appearing 3 or 4 times a day with
different users reporting it, but like I said, if you wait a while and
refresh the page, it is working again. Code:

For some reason my global.asa file is not firing. I have it located in the
root of my website (e.g., wwwrootmywebsiteglobal.asa) and I have the web
site configured as an "application" in IIS. When I modified the file I also
stopped and restarted the web server.

I've cobbled together some asp code to serveup MS Access database information. I've got the code on a free asp host (1asphost.com) who are running IIS 5.0 on Windows 2000. There is no support from the host since it's a free service.
So, I was wondering if anyone here could help me stablilize this service so my pages load consistently. As it is now, I get error codes (which tell me nothing, I'm not a professional ASP coder) and no data displayed. At other times everything functions exactly as intended. Code:

I'm getting an 'unspecified error' when i'm trying to open a recordset in MS SQL Server 7.
I noticed that when I open the Enterprise Manager, 'server is not known to be running' after I click yes and start restoring my latest backup. when I try to open the recordset the 'unspecified error' occur. Thus, I need to leave my enterprise manager open.
I don't know if my assumption is right but I need help in solving this problem.
I want to know what causes this error and how can i avoid it?

I am perplexed by an issue that I am having and hope that someone can shed some light for me. I recently set up forest blog in a subdirectory called blog. Now, it seems that intermittently people clicking on links for our main site are being served the default.asp from the /blog subdirectory instead of the default.asp in the main directory.
I have seen this happen even when I manually typed in the url - I was directed to the /blog page. I have no idea what could cause this behavior on an intermittent basis.

We use two COM components in our ASP pages which run fine for weeks at
a time, but occasionally we get a permission denied message when
calling a function on their interfaces. But strangely the next call
works fine!
We think it may be load related but wanted to know if there were any
other reasons people are aware of...

A drop down list is populated with certain values from the database and when the selection is changed the post is posted back to itself and ceratin other processing takes place on the same page, based on the selected value.
I have modified the code to make a default list item selection (using option selected etc. ) when the page loads the 1st time. I also want the onChange event to fire the 1st time (by taking this default selected item) on page load, not just when user makes a selection from the list.

I'm workinbg in Visual Studio 2003. I'm experimenting with creating a
session variable, and from all I can gather. the Session_Start event is not
firing.
In Global.asx.vb, in the Session Start event, I have the following:
Sub Session_Start(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs)
' Fires when the session is started
Session("varTest") = "123"
End Sub
First off, when I set a break point at that line, it is never reached when
the application starts. Secondly, when I try to post a test alert(), to
display Session("varTest"), it comes up blank (no error). Finally, if I set
Session("varTest") = "123" in my asp page, then display it, it shows up, all
of which leads me to believe that the global.asax file is not seen by the
project, even though it was inserted automatically.

I have a problem with a win 2003 server Standard edition.
Sometimes when I'm working in my web application the session hangs
(but not the ASP-application). In the application log I find the
following error:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: COM+
Event Category: Unknown
Event ID: 4689
User: N/A
The run-time environment has detected an inconsistency in its internal
state. This indicates a potential instability in the process that
could be caused by the custom components running in the COM+
application, the components they make use of, or other factors. Error
in d:
tcomcomplussrccomsvcs hreadsstawork.cpp( 156), hr =
80010108:
Callback failure handled by IAsyncErrorNotify
I have installed the "Network DTC-Access" and started the "COM+ System
Application process". After i did this it worked a lot better,
unfortunately the problem still remains (however not in the same
extent)
The ASP-application is built in VB and uses four different dll-files
for things like uploading files etc.
When I run the application on a win 2000 server everything worked out
perfect.

In the code behind of my ASP.net web page I have code written that is
dynamically creating a button. Here is a sample of how I define it.
//Define Variable
Button btnNext;
public void someMethod()
{
btnNext = new Button();
button += new EventHandler(this.btnNext_Click);
//then i add the control to the page, then call its click event
btnNext_Click();
}
When I clickthis button on the page, the page postsback and its onclick
event is never called (stepping through the code shows that it never gets
reached). If I click the button a second time, the method is called and it
works fine.

I have designed a form which process database Insert, edit and Delete(datagrid). I input userid,password and privilege in textboxes which has validation controls to verify data keyed in. And press the button to perform insert operation. Upto here is fine.
I want to perform edit or delete operations. I put datagrid for that one. After clicking the Update button for the row, the validation controls are firing again. I need to input some temporary data in the form fields to perform actual update operation. How can i stop firing validation controls at this stage?

I have a site which until this morning, was on a remote server. The structure was that the "site" was actually a folder on the server, as I am designer and use this arrangement to develop sites. Under the root directory, I had modified the global asa file to include session variables. Ok, so I download the site (folder) to my hard drive, and put it in the folder of "MY Documents" called MyWebs. I then opened VB Studio and created a new solution, which is pointing to the before mentioned directory in My Documents. When I pull the site up in IE, the session variables were not being called, and I realized I had not copied over the asa file. So I did so, placing a copy of it in the hard drive's c inetpub wwwroot directory, and also directly in the my docs mywebs directory,and the site's directory as well. It seems it is still not being called.Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?

How does IIS 6.0 treat the global.asa file? I had the following problem;
1. uploaded a new site to the win3k server
2. had incorrect db connection string in Session_OnStart in global.asa and website caused errors.
3. Changed the global.asa file to include the correct details. Saved the file. Still got the same errors.
I could not resolve this unless restarting the WWW Service on this server. In IIS 5.0 the global.asa file would reload after resaving it (as the timestamp is updated).
I even waited the next day before restarting the service because I though Session_OnStart expires after my session ends...but the error was still there
in the morning.
Hopefully someone will make sense of it for me. Here is the code (I inherited) in the global.asa
Sub Application_OnStart
Application("DB.ConnectionString")= ""
Application("MaxLoginAttempts") = 5
Set Application("Con") = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
Session("Test") = Now()
End Sub
Sub Session_OnStart....

We have over 100 asp pages that reference a table (distribution_components). We added a new column and primary key to that table, so now we have to modify the where clause to include that column (we have to make the new column = to a session variable in the page)
The table appears 531 times in our code. Is there some util or method that allows us to change it globally, other than going to each occurrance, and adding the new column to the where clause.

Basically session_onend will not fire in my global.asa files! I have just made a very simple test to prove its not my programming and it still doesnt fire.
Session_onstart works a treat but onend will not work even if you force the session to expire with abandon. I have tried on 2 of our servers now and it doesnt work on either.
my simple test is this:
Sub Session_OnEnd
application("test") = "hello"
End Sub
Now surely that should work. i obviously have a page that writes that test variable to the page but its always empty.

I have an ASP application that is a electronic purchase orders system. My
problem is that only 3 people can authorise a purchase order. When a
purchase order is selected I update the table to show that the field is
locked. If they complete the form then the database is updated and the lock
is removed, all though at this stage the record moves into another part of
the system and the lock becomes redundant.
If however they dont complete the form the record is left in a permanent
locked state, it could be that they decided to look at the record then
navigated away or closed the browser.
So i thought maybe i could stick some code that updates the database into
the session_OnEnd in the global.asa, so after 20 minutes when the session has
ended the lock will free. I don't however have any experience with this and
don't even know if this will work. The code won't be a problem its just
whether this process will actually work.
I am thinking that I code put the order_id into a session variable then when
the session variable ends i run a sub in the .asa file that gets the session
variable and updates the table.

I am in much need of some help with my global.asa file. I use ASP and mySQL. In a nutshell, When a registered user logs in, a field in I have a field that gets updated in my DB Table. It is a TINYINT. When they log in, it updates the value to 1, when they log out, it updates it to 0. I use a tiny iFrame to create a loop displaying users with the value of 1. Basically a cheasy "Who's Online" function.
How ever I am now trying to create a global.asa file to say when the session times out, I want the global file to just update the value back to 0. I am also attempting it so that if the users browser window closes and then gets reopened PRIOR to the timeout limit, It knows they are still logged in. I can provide my script if anyone thinks they can help. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think my final thought would be that when the user closes their browser, that the session ends and the DB field gets updated from a 1 to a 0.
