View RepliesHas anyone else found a memory leak using ADO streams to access binary data held in a database. I have searched through this forum and have not come across anyone else, so maybe it is just me.
The scenario is as follows:
Windows 2000 SP3
MDAC 2.7 SP1
IIS5
MySQL 3.23
MyODBC 2.50
If I query the database and do a response.binarywrite everything works fine and no memory leak. eg. response.binarywrite myrecordset("blobfield")
If I read the very same BLOB field into a ADOstream I then get a memory leak in DLLHOST.EXE of how big that binary field was. ie If the picture is 140k in size DLLHOST.EXE increases its memory size by 140k.
This keeps on happening until DLLHOST.EXE is something like 250 MBytes in size at which point it stops working. Quick restart of the IIS Web service and I get all my memory back.
The command I am using to get the data into the ADOstream is picturestream.write myrecordset("blobfield")
I have also tried putting the binary data into a variable first before inserting it into the stream:
set x=myrecordset("blobfield")
picturestream.write x
The stream is closed and set to nothing at the end of processing. Everything is cleanly shut down. Through testing I know the memory leak occurs once the data has been written into the stream. The stream is correctly created as type binary.
The stream problem I am encountering does not seem to be limited to ASP, I tried it using Visual Basic to create a COM component to do the same job and still got a memory leak.
So the questions are:
1. Has anyone come across this before or fixed it?
2. Is there another way of getting binary data out of MySQL, something like the opposite of LoadFile?
I have wasted so much time on this problem but cannot find, having searched Microsoft's knowledge base and the rest of the web, any reference to the problem.
I am trying to pass a hidden field value on a form into another field on the
form so that it can then be inserted in the database, to enable me then to
reference that number at a later date.
(The hidden value (1 for example) would then automatically get passed to the
other input field.)
The code for the text field that allows users to type an number into it for
submission to the db is below, but what code do i need within the hidden
field to populate this text field below so that users do not have to type the
number in? Code:

I have been doing adodb connections and using Access2000 for several lightweight websites. I have never had any problem with any of the SQL commands to insert, update, delete, etc.
I can insert a record into a memo field just fine ... up to a certain number of characters (nowhere near the 65K limit). After several hundred characters, the insert fails ... nothing happens ... the execute just idles and no insert is done. Anyone help? I have read about data types, etc., but everything I read sounds as if ASP and Access 2000 are suppose to handle the type conversions. They have been doing it up to this certain size.
I'm trying to insert this text into a memo field:
Set cnn = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
str = Server.MapPath("database/alumni.mdb")
strDB = "Provider=MICROSOFT.JET.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & str
cnn.Open strDB
Set rst = CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
sql = "INSERT INTO tblMessage (MessageID, UserID, PostTypeID, Subject,
DatePosted, MessageText, Active) Values ('" & vMessageID & "','" &
vUser & "', " & vPostType & ",'" & vSubject & "','" & vDatePosted &
"','" & vMessageText & "',0)"
rst.Open sql, cnn, adOpenStatic, adLockOptimistic
vMessageText = "This is a test just to see if it will blow up on a
large comment. Just testing again. Don't mind me."
Can I put this into my database field or is it too much and if not,
how do I solve this issue. I need to be able to post messages and
input for large fields.
Just wondering if any one can tell me why on my machine in Inetpub, when I
want to display data from a blob column, I get data that is like =
"4D6573736", using Response.BinaryWrite. My ado version is 2.8, does
it have some thing to do with missing some thing?
I figured out yesterday how to get a blob in, then found an easier way (basically put them all in access then import them into sql).
My problem is getting them out. I dont care if its ASP, PHP or what, but I dont know exactly how I would go about getting it.
I have 2 fields in the database, one is the blob data, and the other is just a name, so I'll be selecting on that, and then displaying its corresponding blob data (tif files).
How would I go about doing this? I've never done blobs, I've normally just done an echo $variable type of thing for string and integers and such.
I have stored a .gif and jpeg file in the database as the BLOB object.
Now I am trying to create a report which displays that gif file along with another information.
Is there a way I can display the BLOB objects on the page without having to use any crystal report tool or anything ?
I need some help with ADO types. I use an stored procedure to insert records in a table. One of columns needed is a Blob type (subtype Text). In adition I use ADODB.command configured as I show:
...
oProcedure.Parameters.Append oProcedure.CreateParameter("Description", adLongVarChar, adParamInput, 1234567, description)
...
But it doesn't work well. After call, the table shows something like binary data.
I'd tried to use other ADO types like adVarChar, adVarWChar, adLongVarBinary,... with same result or type errors.
I'm searching some code samples that using blob data type with asp.

View Replies View RelatedHow would a guy go about inserting BLOB files into an Oracle database? My company wants me to put logos in a database, and then depending on the client logging in, display a certain image. My boss wants an interface to allow for us to upload them to the database, also.
I personally think just dropping them into a centralized directory and then storing the path, or the image name in a char or varchar field would make more sense, but. Can someone help me with this, or give me any ideas? I've floated the idea to him to buy a third-party component to facilitate the upload, but he's not really appreciative of that idea.
What about .NET? From what I understand, it has very good file upload capabilities. I already have the framework installed on our server, so I should be able to use it if needed. Would that be a better route to go?
I am currently working on a document management system for my company's Marketing department. They wish to be able to upload files to the server.
Rather than deal with the many permissions issues we have had in the past with saving and deleting these files to the server's file system, this time we are trying to use SQL server BLOB fields to store the files.
The premise is simple -- a user clicks on the link and the file is then shown in the browser. The documents are mostly word, Quark, and Adobe Illustrator documents. I was thinking the code would go something like this: Code:
I don't know how to upload word doc, images and other files into Oracle Blob fields with binary format.
I tried with the following code, normally it's inserting, suppose if i try to convery binary. Code:

View Replies View RelatedI am using a Relational database for my site and i have the following tables:
FIXTURES, GAMEDATES
the fields in FIXTURES are:
GameDate
Home
Away
(All of the above are numerical fields)
the fields in GAMEDATES are:
DateID(integer)
GameDate(#Date Field#)
What i have done is in the GAMEDATE field in the FIXTURES table i have used the ID number of the date that i wish to assign to that record - using a LEFT JOIN to display the actual date that is pulled from the GAMEDATES table (That which corresponds to the relevant id used in Fixtures)
The problem is that in some of my code i want to display records using sql and sometimes in the where clause i use the following:
WHERE Fixtures.GameDate<=(Date())
obviously meaning WHERE GAMEDATE is LESS THAN or EQUAL to TODAY.
The thing is when i use the join it does not use the where clause and displays all of the records in the FIXTURES table.
Does any one know how to get around this, i have not received any error messages it just isnt displaying the right data
Im comparing values in a field while doing a loop if sAct<>myData(5,i) then At the end of the loop I make the value of sAct equal the current myData
This will work when comparing other fields withing my recordset (so I know the statement works) but it will not work for the field I want to compare. The only difference with this field is that it has null values. Could this be the problem? if so, how do I deal with nulls?
I have a input form with 5 fields. One of the fields is MajorNo and the other is named Description.
I have a reference table in my MS Access database (tblMajor)that lists the major numbers and their descriptions.
I would like to have the description field in my ASP automatically filled based on the major number entered on the form, so the user will only need to input the major number when submitting to the Access table (tblSalesTotal).
I have being working with making an edit field over the past few days. The edit function is now working fine. The edit fields that i have are for id, subject, notes, timedate.
All of the edit screens are one line text screens. What I want to do now is increase the size of the notes box to a larger textarea type box to make it easier to edit notes. The notes field in the db is a textarea field. Code:

Our graphic designer has just finished redeveloping our website. On the
site, we use SSL to secure the area where a user enters their personal
information to order items from us. (we do not do many transactions - maybe
1 per day...) We are a log home mfg company so they would only order plan
books, maybe a video etc...
When the user clicks "Submit Order", we want to encrypt each data item
(because of new legislation governing customer personal info etc...) and
write a record to an access db. From here it will be imported into our
Customer DB leads database...
I do not use ASP but program in VB 6 and Access 2000. ASP looks similiar in
many ways...
Does someone have a good ASP script for encrypting data? And, if so, is it
fairly strong encryption?
Also, is there any trick to writing an "insert" SQL script in ASP or is it
exactly the same as I would do in VB or Access? Maybe someone has an
"insert" script handy they could pass along including the command to
actually execute it?
