Keep Cookies Or Between 2 Sites
I have 2 separate web sites on 2 different boxes
www.xyz.com on box 1
www2.xyz.com on box 2
Users log into box 1 via regular ASP/Database authentication, and I keep a session variable to mark authenticated users. There's a link that would send users to box #2 at www2.xyz.com. How do I check whether these users are authenticated or not? I do not want to present a login screen again. Is it possible? If so, what are ways to do it, if not
session/cookies?

In my Session_OnStart in Global.asa, I am setting some cookies. One
of them, I set as follows:
dim UserID
UserID = Request.ServerVariables("LOGON_USER")
Response.Cookies("User")("ID") = UCASE(UserID)
When I immediately log the cookie value retrieved from
Request.Cookies("User")("ID") into the Windows Event Log, I get the
correct value. However, when I try to retrieve the cookie on the home
page of my application using the same code,
Request.Cookies("User")("ID"), it either cannot find the cookie or
cannot read the value. I am retrieving the cookie before all HTML
headers are written. It is my first statement on the page after
Option Explicit. I have even compared the session IDs. The SessionID
created in the Session_OnStart is the same value as the SessionID on
the home page.
I have read that the Session_OnStart only has access to the
Application, Session and Request objects. It does not explicitly say
that it does not have access to the Response object. Also, I was even
able to use Response.Write's in Global.asa to print out the values
although it looked like it had also stopped the session after I did
so. Cookies are definitely enabled on my machine. I have even tried
setting the session cookie's expiration to be persistent for a few
days to see if it was perhaps expiring before I was able to read it
but this did not work either.
Is there something preventing cookies to be created in Global.asa in
the Session_OnStart sub? Is the Response object not available???
Please let me know if anyone else has had this problem or solution.

I'd like to use SSL encryption to provide secure pages in an ASP.NET application. I know I can specify complete URLs (e.g. https://www....), but for several reasons, I'd like to use relative URLs.
Is there a way to do this and if so how? Also, is there a simple way to specify at a "root" level in an ASP.NET app that ALL pages should be secure automatically?

Cold Fusion has this tag called <CFHTTP> which allows you to grab the contents of a web site and put it in a variable. It works well because we can grab our dynamically generated header and display it on our cold fusion sites.
We have a couple of ASP sites and we want to do the same thing for them. However I am not sure if ASP has the same exact type of tag. Does anyone know?

I am using two copies of that website ... both copies are under same domain but in different folders ... In my site, there are some pages which are not available to everone .. the site requires from a user to enter his/her username and password .. I use session varibles to check if the user is logged in or not on every single page ...
The problem is when I log in the first copy of the site and then move to the second copy ... the second site things that I am logged in !! this is because I use same session varibles name in all copies ... I can fix this problem by changing session varibles names in one of the copies ... but this will mean I have to modify 100 pages ... is there any other solution for my problem?

I'm looking for some code that will enable me to create a updateable web
site. So when I design a the front end all I need to do is drop in some
server variables on the html pages and the asp code does the rest via a
database.
The code would be portable therefore small changes will allow me to apply to
many sites, ideally it should also contain a text editor. Is this feasible ?
I've looked at cms, but this doesn't seem to give enough flexibility or am I
missing something ? and finally asp.net has some sort of portal system
(matrix), how does this fit in ?
For the moment I think the best way forward is this code (or framework) that
will enable the client to update, until a better sollution.

I deleloped a "template" web site for a national organization. They have 2000 members and wish to offer this site to each member. Some members will have their own domain, others will not. Regardless, each site will be hosted on one server by the organization. Here is the problem I am facing. Yesterday, they did their first test of this template. The client sent me this url - http://www.atra.com/~atra_member
When I went to the address, I noticed any reference in the site to a session variable defined in the global.asa was not showing up. From past experience, I seem to remember that the .asa file needs to be in the root web, yes? Seeing as they will have two thousand of these templates on the same server, how can I achieve what I am trying to do here. I want each site to be easily modified for each client. The only thing that needs to change on each site is address, name, tel., fax, etc. I thought a single global.asa file and session variables would do this hence my approach.

I created our sites as per MS documentation and created the subnets that
match each site. I moved each server into its own site. I then create the
Inter-site transport with IP. I create one call "All Sites" and copied all

Login scripts seem to get replicated eventually. New users don't seem to get
replicated and DC's never seem to find TS license server. There aren't any
messages in the Eventlog on any of the DC's.
If I move all DC's back into the Default_First-Site things start replicating

Could someone help me find a tutorial (or perhaps instuct me) in the proper way to configure IIS 5.1 so that I can design and test (using localhost) multiple web sites. My problem arises when I try to debug ASPs that contain virtual includes which assume that the ASP exists in the default web site.
Since my ASPs exist in subwebs within the default site rather than in the default site, the included pages are not found and my ASPs return errors. I'm sure there must be a better way to do this but so far I haven't found one.

I am currently maintaining a web site for my company's product. The existing site is in English and written in ASP. Currently, my boss plan to add 2 more languages version to the site (Malay and Chinese). So that when user click on the "Chinese" link, the Chinese version of the site will be displayed and click on the "Malay" version, the Malay version of the site will be displayed.
I know that I can either duplicate another 2 sets of the same files with different languages and my job consider done. But the mainatance in the future will be a headache for me. So, I was planning to use XML for this purpose, can anyone show me the proper way that I can learn to use XML with ASP? What type of XML Editor should I use?
Or is there any other way to deal with this purpose? Any good references I can get from the Internet?

I'm making a website that is for logging Treasure sites, and each site has it own GPS coordinate. Like Site#1 has N34'35.3456 W112'45.2345 coordinate and Site#2 has N35'37.3976 W112'44.2265 coordinate and Site#3 has N33'46.3926 W112'49.2855 coordinate. What I need to do is to make a search for sites, by GPS coordinate, that will show up on a list page, that will list all the sites in a radius of 100 miles or so from the entered coordinate, and will list them from the top being the close to the entered coordinate and getting further away from the entered coordinate at the bottom of the list. I have all my sites in a database. So any Ideas PS. I really really like the way that Geocaching.com has there GPS coordinate search.

I am creating a user tracking app that tracks a user one of two ways...
1)First Method is cookies
2)Second Method MS SQL DB
I first check if the users browser accepts cookies if not I go to the db. If the user accepts cookies then I check for a specific crumb if it does not have the value I am looking for I kill it and rewrite it. This is working fine (im in the middle of testing it). The problem is I decieded to test the script with NN7 and not turn cookies off but block cookies from my site and all fell apart. The condition that I have set (detect if cookies are enabled) does not stop the script from trying to set a Session Variable because the browser accepts cookies and to keep a long story short it goes into an infinite loop because the script is looking for a Session value and Its not being stopped becaues the script thinks its alright to write cookies! Is there a way to detect if a user has your sites cookies blocked? This is important because Server.CreateObject("MSWC.BrowserType") will return .Cookies = True and you will not know that your script is not executing properly because a user has your sites cookies blocked but excepts them elsewhere...

I've built a website which requires a user to log-in to access the site. I have already built a page that enters their details into a db (register.asp), and another page where the user enters their email address (the log-in ID) to actually log-in (login.asp).
How can I use a cookie to automatically log a user in??
More specifically, what are the commands to set a cookie (upon successful registration) and access it (upon re-logging in)?

Hey i've spent the last few hours trying to work this problem out about cookies.
When a user logs in to the site the login.asp page checks the database to see the personal page that the user re directs to e.g if bob brown logged in he would be redirected to bob.brown.asp. This is stored in a field in the database table along with the username and password.
i would like to put a cookie onto the users computer that remembers the url they were redirected to so when they press the main page button it would look for the cookie and see what url they are meant to be redirected to and take them there
My current login system is this ....
