Knowing When A File Download Is Complete
I have a requirement to record in a database when a file is finished
downloading to the end-user. Currently when a user clicks a download icon
for a file it directs to an ASP page that records the "hit" into a database,
then I use a response.redirect "filename.exe" to point the user to the
download.
What I'm missing is knowing when the download is complete so I
can update the database to show the file successfully completed its
download. Is there a way to do this with ASP? A way to do this with an
aftermarket component?

I am facing a strange problem. I want to give a functionality to the client where he can download a complete folder from the server. but how to give this functionality is the main problem.

I have a machine ftp-ing a file into a directory where a script picks it up and does something to it. I dont want the script to process the file if the file is still being copied.the only way I can figure out to do this is to check the size of the file... then wait 'n second and check the size again. and if the size is exactly the same... then asume its all there. but this doesn't seem like the right way to do it. is there no easy way or simple property I can check to see if its done?

I have a simple asp form which writes to a csv.

The form is going live soon, and I'd like just a dash of due diligence
in terms of security. I tried using a relative link to the gbpeople.txt
file which didn't work. Is there a better way around this without

I'm developing an intranet site that will require knowing who is accessing the site. Since all of my users are using a WIndows domain, I figured I could cut the necessity to log into the intanet site if I could identify each user based on who is logged into the workstation being used to access it. So I figured I would need some Microsoft-specific tech to get this done.
Is something like this even possible? I figure ASP .NET would be my best hope, but seeing that I've never programmed for a Microsoft environment, I would need some coaching. Here's how I thought this could be accomplished (I may need some help filling in the details):determine the IP of the machine accessing the sitedetermine which machine on the network currently has that IPask Active Directory who is currently logged into that machineI don't know that this is possible in this manner, though. Anyone accomplish something like this before? I would think so as it seems like something a lot of developers would want for web applications.

I'm working in ASP VBScript, and I'm trying to transform an SQL row into a formatted line of text. My question is, is there a way to bounce through columns without knowing their names (like an array).
The answer to the obvious is yes, I do know all the names of the columns, but I'm trying to minimize future maitenance and this should be a fairly simple process. Basically I need to get the name of each column and it's value in a specific row, and I need to do all of this in ASP.

Downloaded the sendMail.htm and sendMail.asp sample files
from technet onto my IIS 4.0 server. The first 2-3 times
I tested all went well. Subsequent tests, with no server
changes, gave/gives me the "File Download" dialogue box
when the sendMail.asp file should be executing. Why does
sendMail.asp give a "File Download" box instead of just
executing?

Currently i am doing a file management project where user are able to create folder and upload files to it. The file ownner would be able to set permission (from database linking to the file path) if a user able to download it or not.
*each file info will be stored into a table e.g. fileid, filename, path, access.

I am using enctype of multipart/form-data to transfer
files. However, in the target page (action), I can only
retrieve the file. ie. If I call Request.BinaryRead, then
Request doesnt process Form or QueryString anymore. If I

I have coded a file upload process in ASP and the current way I allow files to be downloaded, which have been uploaded is by using the <a href> tag. This works but it normally opens the files for the user in a new browser window. What I would like to do is present the user with a download link which opens the Windows File Download dialog box.
I thought there might be an easy way to do this kind of like HTML provides for uploading a file… which is the input type=file (presents the user with the browse button). Is there an easy way to present the user with a Windows File Download dialog box?
