I'm developing a page in which different users have different rights within the site. I don't even know where to start with this one because searching for anything to do with "website", "user", "rights", "permissions" or anything along those lines gives me nothing but server file permissions.
What I'm trying to do is allow anybody with a username and password to sign in, then based on their security permissions they will be able to use certain functions of the website. I want all this to be modular though...
I don't want a million IF's in my asp code. What I'm looking for is to have a list of groups, each having a checklist of functions they can perform. Assign a user to a group, and they can do those tasks.

I got a script for uploading files that sets its file size limit to 10240kb. The line in that script Code:
Const MaxFileSize = &H100000
has an equal size of 10240kb. Any idea why &H100000 is equal to 10240kb and how do I set it to less or greater than using such hexa type like value?

I'm using the FreeASPUpload script from www.freeaspupload.net. It works good until I attempt to upload files larger than about 10Meg, at which point my server chokes. The documentation says I need to change the IIS upload limit.I've not been able to figure out how to do it in IIS5.

I had my server run win2K SP4 running an ASP site that uses ABCUpload and all was working fine. Today I have found that we can no longer upload files greater than about 4Mb.
I think way back when I set this site up I had to change a setting some where in windows that allowed the site to accept file greater than 4Mb. Does any body know what this setting is and where I can find it.

I am developing an web application, it should has the function to upload file from client computer. The uploaded file size can be limited within 10 MB.
But I dont know how to check the size of the file on client-side. Server-side size check is not enough, because it can not be checked until the whole file is received while the server resource(cpu, memory etc) is wasted.

I am looking for a good sample or if anyone can provide me a code that would allow a user to upload documents, and be able to get only the ones he/she has uploaded only (by their loging session).
However, I would also need the code to have an administrator look at all the users uploads. I think I can manage to create the file for the administrator. But I have no idea how to start the uploading one.

I'm having a problem with the fact that I want to allow image files to be uploaded to a remote web server, as the hosting package the web site is on is IIS6 and has a default file upload size limit of 200kb. As it's a shared hosting package, the default limit cannot be changed for me unfortunately.
Anyway - i need to check the size of the file being uploaded, so i can notify the user and prevent them getting the default Microsoft error message page. The problem is that I can't implement a server side size check which works, using either Request.TotalBytes or load.getFileSize (with "load" being an object of my loader class). It seems that I can't carry out any of these operations when the file size is too large.

I'm using Windows 2000 server n IIS I'm Using FileSystemObject of ASP in Server Every File and Folder has 2 Size when we get properties of any 1 actual size and Size on Disk.now my problem is when i get the file size from ASP object it give Size value but when i try to get folder size it gives size on disk and both values are different.
I'm creating a size to access limited size to upload files so i just check the folder size and then get size for those which are going to update by user then i will less those size to actual folder size to get remaining size.

I'm using getrows to speed up data access time, i wonder though if there is a better way. Each recordset returns up to or more than 500 records, this is still quite an overhead for the server when there are lots of people on the site.
Rather than reading all 500 records into the array and then paging the results is it possible to create the recordset with just 25 entries?
ie if you are on page 1 then only the first 25 records are retrieved from the database, page 2 - records 25 - 49 are retrieved etc
or will this slow things down?

I have 40 different users. Each user manages a subset of the total database. Currently I have a pull-down menu to let the user select their subset and then manage the data within it. I'd like to use their login info to pre-select the subset so that they have access only to their assigned areas. How do I "send" the subset name from one asp page to another? the db is "2004" the table is "Students" .

I am looking for a simple way to limit the amount of letters/Characters returned so that it does not throw off my pages styling. Basically I have the following: Code:
<%
Dim SomeVariable
response.write(SomeVariable)
%>
If that SomeVariable has 300 characters in it it will create a very large table that it displays in so, what I want to do is limit it to say 25 or 50 Characters and simply put like .... after it. Any Ideas?

I'm using the script below to limit a visitor at my site to only be able to post a form 5 times. I believe the reason I've received more e-mails is because the visitor closes their browser then opens a new one and they can post two times each time they do this.
<%
count = Request("count")
if count = "" Then
count = 0
Else
count = count + 1
End If
%>
<%
If count < 5 Then
%>
<a name="step5"></a><input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Submit">
<%
Else
%>
This form has been submitted 5 times. Please contact me for more information.
Can somebody show me how I can do this so it will only work twice within a 24 hour period even if the visitor closes their browser and opens a new one? I would think cookies be the answer to this but what happens if the visitor has cookies turned off? If this would be a good solution can somebody please help me out? I'm not familiar with cookies.

When displaying data from a database, how can I limit how many columns are displayed on the page?
I am trying to build an image gallery, and I want it to be 5 images across by x number of rows. I know how to make each image it's own column, or it's own row, but I don't know how to limit how many columns are displayed per row.

I'm attempting to limit a query which is being ordered by a date field to 10 records. The date field contains duplicate values, which are sorted from most recent, back.
However their suggestion of sorting by a secondary field is not providing acceptable results (it returns all the rows in the database). Does anyone have any suggestions of another way around this?

I have written an ASP.NET 2.0 application that uses Active Directory or ADAM
to manage account users - the site has a page that allows people to create an
account (much like any site). The page populates the AD with all the
information and the user account but I am unable to enable the account.
Microsoft has information on how to do that here -->
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...ting_a_user.asp
(the sample is for Visual Basic) - and I am unable to complete the bottom
portion of the script. Can some one point me in the right direction - or can
you tell me how I can add a snippet of VBscript code to an ASP.NET page.
I am using the Active DS Type library - not sure why there are multiple ones
(System.DirectoryServices) but it is rather confusing - I seem to accomplish
one thing with one and another with the other (they did have trouble
co-existing however). Anyway my script works very well but I am not able to
access the properties required to enable the account.
Here is a simple version (no error checking) of the code.....
